Periphery is my favorite band for many reasons. You described a lot of them in the end of the video. There are jarring transitions that intrigue you, and a lot of their songs take me 3-5 listens in order for my mind to break down then restructure all the rhythms, melodies, instrumentation, vocal techniques, etc. Then at some point it clicks, and the whole song becomes a joy ride. Definitely progressive metal haha. Great video! It was cool to see you grooving to the song.

I've always loved periphery and this song has grown on me but it's a very weird lyrical and marketing direction from them. It's not terrible but kinda odd and jarring as someone who is a huge fan of their previous work. Still curious what we'll see on this album though

Bob Sciascia You’re right brother. It’s finally started to stick with me a bit. The hardest part for me was getting past Spencer’s softer singing. As someone who lived through the annoying Nu-Metal years something in his style harkens back to then and I can’t help but think of Incubus.......which annoys me. HOWEVER over the past few weeks I’ve immersed in Periphery and its pretty much worn off. He has awesome range and I’ve grown to appreciate him. Still a couple douchey parts to get through but I’m in.

I think one of the best qualities of Periphery's songs is that they are so multilayered and thought out, that the listening experience literally changes every time you play the song. I felt the same way the first time I listened, but after a handful of replays, it gets more and more cohesive. The replay value is off the charts. The only band where a new album release actually catches me off guard because I'm still listening to the last release.

"Without a bass player" isn't really true. Nolly was in the band up until mid-2017, and still tracked the bass on Hail Stan, though he had no part in writing the album.
@@jday380 totally agree. He wasn't bad on the first album, but by the time P2 came out he'd shown so much growth. Definitely one of my favorite vocalists in the business. I can see why people might not like his performance on P1, but after that I don't see why people still hate him. Many other people felt the same way about the solo. That it fit cuz of its chaotic nature but that it felt out of place cuz of just I don’t know...as a metal guitarist going on 20 years, and a Periphery fan since their very first album, I can only really describe its “out of place” feel as a result of the guitarist who played it “Misha” having an extremely unique playing and writing style and I feel like this exact phenomenon tends to happen a lot in their music, but personally I love it. It’s a matter of opinion and no hate should ever be expressed towards an opinion. I was happy you liked this track for the most part. Cuz I’ve found that they’re either an acquired taste, or they appeal specifically to extremely technically proficient guitarists impressed with the complexity and uniqueness of the music and genre itself. You know what I mean. And even then, that’s not an absolute. Some of those types of musicals I just referenced still hate Periphery and I also believe a huge point of contention is the vocals. The clean vs screams vs mix of both. But again all opinions. Your reaction has been my favorite so far.

Please react to Savatage " believe " or " if i go away ". This was and still is a very under rated band from Tarpon Springs,Florida. They're now known as the Trans Siberian Orchestra and still kicking ass.

Hey fucker, this great song gets better each time you listen to it. If you’re looking for another one of their songs to react to, I highly recommend The Bad Thing. It’s an absolute face melter and totally along your lines.

If you want stuff more like this, listen more to Periphery I and II. Juggernaut had songs here and there that were like this but Periphery III had barely any of this.

Metallica went in very different direction in the interlude to Master of Puppets and it was brilliant. The contrast works. It worked on Blood Eagle.
