Warhammer started in the 80's. It was biggest in europe. And was kind if like a precursor to modern fantasy strategy games you play on the computer in the same way D'n'D was a precursor to western videogame RPG's. These little plastic figures that you paint where every faction has a unique feel and mechanics. Huge influence on Warcraft and Starcraft. An aesthetic that grew up around the time and alongside heavy metal. Which explains all the skulls, horns and grit. One of the earliest death metal bands Bolt Thrower took their name from a weapon in Warhammer. Its pretty big in scandinavia and the studio behind this game and Darktide is swedish. Historically im pretty sure this wargaming can trace its roots to tabletop simulations military leaders played to devise strategy in real life. They did that in WWI im pretty sure.
As a warhammer fantasy fan them being confused by skaven is cute to me. Who dosnt love death globe bombiders or warp globe. Warhammer 3 total war is more my thing the vermintide but I own both.
L4D is absolutely amazing, during covid it was on sale and me and 3 mates got it for a £5 just each. it got us all through those extremely boring and depressing days, that and phasmophobia. Those games helped keep my friend group in contact over covid basically.

Love vermintide, its such a good game to hop onto with friends to smash hordes of rats and chill lol.
