2 and a half freaking minutes of sustained circular breathing BOY I can't even hold for 1 without losing pitch or just droning out of beat, AND THIS GUY IS STILL BLASTING AFTER!!? HOW!? XD lol
I saw Trombone Shorty last night on "Austin City Limits", and started freaking out when I realized he was doing circular breathing on trumpet for a really prolonged period, must have been well past 2 min. (just like this video!). It went on so long that I was starting to get a little anxious for him! I'd never seen anyone do it before, just heard about serious Buddhist and Hindu meditation practitioners doing it, but I realized that's what it was. An amazing physical feat, but from his expressions, it looks a little scary physiologically, at least when playing a brass instrument!
Lol...Hindu? Buddhist? uhh....you do realize he IS actually breathing right? Has nothing to do with what Buddhists do or holding breath. He is pushing the air out of his cheeks while taking a breath at the same time. It's hard, but not magical and something almost any trumpet player (or wind player) can do with lots of practice. Nothing mysterious nor magical.
he is like Dizzy! wow. I wonder if I could do that in a few years. So talented. I just started playing four months ago and love it. NEVER MIND this Guy is on a whole nother universe! AMAZING
I remember seeing wynton marslis show how do that 20 years ago. Apparently alot of horn musicians can do that but it is considered showing off so they don't. It is considered to take away from their real talents.
@@JimChandlerMartialize I do not play the trumpet or any musical instrument. So kudos to you. I wish I could. Have you seen his pbs music 101 special from a couple of decades ago? I remember it was in New England in a music barn. I learned alot from that special.
His name's Trombone Shorty. That's what he's called. Also, don't even begin with the puffing cheeks, if you only ever listened to him and never watched you wouldn't tell if he was puffing. And do you even know what circular breathing is?
@@braveheart1320 I can hear a difference, but then again I've heard the difference in myself when I've done it due to my chops being gone vs. keeping my embouchure set like playing with fresh chops. Granted I've been playing 6 years and counting 😂
You will...just don't give up!!! I started playing when I was 8, it takes years of practice, but it's worth every minute of it! Playing an instrument is one of the few things in life that you truly get out what you put into it... It's been a year since you posted this comment, so how's it going?
Circular breathing. All that while staying in tempo, keeping track where's he's at, and not passing out!
He makes it look easy. Wait a minute, that looks extremely difficult and excruciating! Ahhhh! Bavo to him for pulling that off haha
Well that was a *breathtaking performance!*
Hey man, I cant breath

Crazy! I think his cheeks are going to have outgrown Dizzys by the end of his career!!
I was just about to make the exact comment
Actually amazing. 10 years later and still the best music I've heard.

It’s an endurance test on top of technical ability and understanding of the instrument. Trombone Shorty is fantastic.

I feel like this isn’t good for his health
It's absolutely okay it's called circular breathing
He is a Professional Musician and Truly Blessed.
it's okay, he's just breathing through his nose and squeezing air out through cheeks
AdamVonBadam this is the most simple and basic yet descriptive way of explaining it that I’ve ever heard
I mean, I think deep breathing in and out is healthy
Saw him support Jeff beck in the uk and I absolutely loved them. Incredible energy and this party piece stole the show. Incredible musician and band.
Yo that's craaazyyy!!!!!! What an astounding performance!
Dizzy comes to mind with those Cheeks .

No it's an Edwards Gen 3X, basically a modular Getzen Genesis 3003 trumpet, Edwards is a kind of sub brand of Getzen
