I went with the colossal editions. 3 reasons 1. Singles are usually out of stock depending on the vols (boxsets as well) 2. Shelf space for other series. 3. To me best bang for your buck because its 5vols in 1. But to each their own. Also agreed they don't come in mint condition. Mines came through Amazon and 1 was slightly torn on the back. But all in all it was a 8/10 for delivery. They came fast, 4 out of 5 weren't damaged, and got them on sale. Just glad to have 1 of my favorite animes/mangas in physical form.

I have no problems reading the manga, I read mine sitting on my couch with the book resting on the arm of the couch. I do hold it up when I read so the spine doesn't bend much ( I do that with all my mangas ) and they're still in good shape. I love the paper quality and the big printing, that I find easier to read do to me having problems with my sight. Attack on Titan is my favorite out of all the manga I have.
Still can't decided if I actually want to own the physical series or not yet. You bring up great points about the colossal editions despite them being very tempting to me because I love the look of the spines. Tough choices , great breakdown Chase!!
Theres also supposed to be a full color version coming. Also I quite like the AoT box sets visually, because when you have them all together they form some art
I think Kodansha's 3-in-1 omnis are way better than Viz's. It's honestly the only thing they do better than Viz lol older SJ titles like Shaman King and Ultimate Muscle are slightly thicker than the newer stuff for some reason so that might be why the Shaman King omni seems smaller.
The colossal editions aren't very good, they fall apart easily and even if you're gentle with them their spines can break. A plus, I guess, is that since they're oversized the art benefits from it. I'm hoping for a hardcover edition since I don't think these newer editions are not going to be that good and would probably have the same issues as the colossal editions.
I don't really understand the hate towards the end of Shingeki. I think it's a good ending. Obviously we were all expecting an Isayama-style twist ending, but the ending is more than decent.

Like you I prefer the single volumes, it's generally the way I collect books, but the prices here are wallet crushing! The first volume of the Colossal Edition is £33, which is considerably dearer than what I saw in your screenshot, but that's nothing new, we always get screwed on American products. So, as much as I'd prefer the singles, I think I'm going to have to plump for the omnibus's. They work out a good £40 cheaper too, which is a massive plus given the amount of crap I collect! I decided to buy the Omnibuses, since they're cheaper than the rest. Omnibus 1 is on the way, and I have pre-ordered Omnibus 2 and 3. Unfortunately, Kodansha keeps delaying the release date for Omnibus 2 and 3, from 22nd February to 22nd March now. My question is, for the Colossal Edition, did the same thing happened, where the release dates kept being extended? Or were they released on time? I'm just worried that Kodansha might now release one omnibus per year, like the Colossal Editions.

@@sarimcheema4791 i actually have the first 3 omnibuses of AOT and i love them. there will be 12 omnibuses in total with 11th coming out on july 18, 2023 and the 12th on august 8, 2023. i’m planning to collect then all over time, i love the raised cover art and the spine design too. definitely worth the money for me in my opinion. i was going to collect the singles first, but they are not cheap for 1 volume. hope it helps some. happy reading.
I dunno. AoT is one of the very few series on which the anime is definitely better than the manga. Great animation, VA's, Soundtrack, 99.9% of the manga was adapted, so like, there's a few things here and there left out but nothing important. With this I'm not saying the manga is bad, is just that, if you already watched the anime, there's little to no inceptive to read the manga, as you are not going to get anything different or extra out of it. So it really is up to you.
I was considering collecting it but I decided to ask for the Demon Slayer 23 volume box set for Christmas instead of the AoT manga as there isn’t much difference in the anime to the manga and I have season 2 and 3, just waiting for season 4 to come out on disk and I want to collect the whole series to watch whenever so I wanna get the first season too. (I’ve seen it so I decided not to get it yet until I’ve collected as many disks as I can before getting season 1)

@@TheDarkSage Fantastic, especially for the five dollars that I paid for it. Seems like the manga jumps around a bit more than the anime (pretty much all the training was skipped), so it's a bit more interesting and I'd argue it flows better. I don't know how the print quality is compared to the full-price releases, since all of my other manga was published by Viz and Dark Horse instead of Kodansha, but it feels about the same as Viz's.

I'm waiting for a hardcover edition. I feel that Kodansha is only half committed when it comes to physical releases. I mean if you're giving me a delux colossal edition, make it hardcover and premium. You can have my money I don't mind. But this softcover colossal that can't even lay flat is just a deal breaker for me. It's only half committed. I'm not gonna pay $50 for that. This is how I buy things: I either buy the cheapest possible mass market paperback OR the delux hardcover edition. I'm not wasting my money on middle ground stuffs. Edit: oh I almost forgot that BEST CHAPTERS hardcover. Yet another half committed product where you don't even get the story in complete.

this bloke's waffling the box sets are always cheaper then the single volumes cause it forces u to buy more of the books. single volumes for retail cost 10,99 euros and the box sets most of the time cost about 7,50 per single book which makes it 30 euros per box set depending on if its got 5 or 4 volumes. if ur not buying used buy the box sets it'll always be cheaper than singles.
I have Deluxe Hardcover editions of AOT Manga and they look 🔥 but they are in German so not everyone could understand it but fortunately I can speak German😅

These are books/manga. A volume is the book for the series. There’s usually multiple volumes that comprise a series
