There's an audio issue at 6:50 that lasts for about 30 seconds - so sorry I didn't catch that in QA!
Also: there's a sidebar view shown that isn't yet released to everyone, I suggest you use the Tabs view in the places where I use that view. Whoops ð
It's extremely annoying that the sidebar view has been promoted by the team since the beginning of summer (on the website main page, as part of some official templates, etc.), but it is still not available to the public. False advertising as it is.
Nonetheless, thanks a lot for the video. Top inspirational material as usual!
Thanks for sharing. Really helpful to get started with tara
I started watching your videos and leaning more about Tana and I must say I'm stoked by it . I'm an avid(hardcore) Notion user, but started to hype about Tana and Heptabase recently.
One thing about Tana to me is that the Outline paradigm seems to take the long format notes away.
As a Software Engineer, it's common for me to add system design notes, troubleshooting sections or overall service's notes.
How do you setup/mold your mindset so to transcribe from one to another (maybe not so much Tana question lol) .
Right now I do use P.A.R.A system within Notion, along side with Wiki structure for trainings and courses I take, and sparse notes about 1:1/Meeting notes
I like Notion, but sometimes I feel I'm working for the tool, not the way around.
I'm currently evaluating other options, being Tana and Heptabase my top 2, so any words of wisdom would be super appreciated :)
This is very exciting. and of course, one of the people to thank should be David Allen himself, if we're talking GTD :)
Wow, what a system you built here! This is awesome. How do you determine what goes in the Do Next Tab of your GTD Dashboard?
I feel a little bit complicated, but there are still many things that can be learned from it. Thank you for sharing.
Nice one. Thank you
Great videos Lukas, thank you! Some questions:
1. Why do you have a Title field for #sources - isn't it redundant since the Title should be the same as the parent node? If having the title field is actually useful, how can we get it to autofill to = parent node (the node tagged #book, for instance)
2. As a researcher, how do you determine when to use Zettlekasten vs QEC systems? I'm thinking QEC for academic papers and Zettlekasten for other-interests reading. What do you think?
3. The QEC system/supertags here seems the same as those from your MTC course, right? If so, how would you suggest integrating across systems - e.g. go through all existing #question (mtc) and change supertag to #question (tanarian brain)?
Thanks!
This looks extremely well thought out and implemented. Since Tana is evolving quickly, how are you managing updates and distributing those to buyers of Tanarian Brain? Thanks!
Thanks! Updates are posted as either additional mini-templates and/or as instruction videos where I walk you through how to make any changes necessary.
Fantastic! That makes sense! That was my biggest concern with installing a big system like this - how do incorporate updates / new features such that I won't lose any of the content that I've put in.@@cortexfuturatools
Hi. what would be the best supertag to tag a job meeting where different projects where discussed?
Awesome video! Is it possible to create an overview page collecting all tasks from different pages? This is not possible on Notion.
Great video! I know how to build title from fields but I don't know how you are able to only display a portion of the field name. For example for Tasks and Goals, your title only shows the emoji of the status and not the remaining text of the field. How was that done?
Thanks! Yeah that's a neat trick ð What you do is nest a field under the value and then reference it in the title expression. What I'm using is, for example, ${Project Status.Icon} where under each Project Status option I have a field Icon which only contains the emoji
I do not have the Agenda in the Day node of my copy of Tanarian Brain, but that seems very useful. Do you have a set up for that? 4:10
Ah yes - if you bought Tanarian Brain before 2023-10-02 it's not in there. It's very easy to set up though: the live search looks for any node where the system fields >Date or >Due Date are PARENT. So the syntax is: OR -> Date PARENT -> Due Date PARENT
I don't get it. Can someone enlighten me please?
In your projects dashboard you have a sidebar containing active projects, project backlog, someday etc... How did you set this up?
I've used tabbed view to create horizontal tabs, but never seen these tabs presented vertically before?
Under the view options you should be able to select "Sidebar" :)
@@cortexfuturatools I don't think this is available for most users (at least I don't have it for sure, and judging by the comments, I'm not alone).
Interesting, this must be a new feature only available to some users. Not available for me yet.@@cortexfuturatools
@cortexfuturatools
Where specifically is one able to find the "view options" you mentioned in your command above?
When I'm zoom into a node, I have the following options at the top after right-clicking on the node and choosing Show View Options:
View, Filter, Group, Sort and Display.
When I click View (which is what I assumed you were talking about), I only find the options of:
List, Table, Cards, Tabs, Calendar and see nothing about a sidebar.
Soooo...it turns out that the Sidebar view is an as-yet unreleased feature that I have access to as part of small group of early feature testers ð
Can't give you a timeline for when y'all will have access to this, unfortunately...
Sounds very interesting but I canât buy anything for Tana since I havenât been approved yet for the beta. Any help getting approved would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Howard, if you join their Slack and post in the "introduce-yourself" channel, they'll automatically send you an invite :)
Whatâs going on with audio around 6:50?
Heck if I know, so annoying! ð
Wait how did you get the horizontal tabs?
Under the view options you should be ablt to select "Sidebar" :)
I didn't see a sidebar option in my version, but seems like you might be able to do this with a top level node that isn't a search node, with multiple search nodes underneath, then you can view that top level node in tabs view.
I don't have that in my view options!@@cortexfuturatools

Very nice system. You have invested lots of thinking in it. I'm still unclear about the specific advantages of Tana compared to other note-taking tools like OneNote or Evernote. As far as I can see, those tools can achieve similar functionality, and might even be easier to use. Currently, Tana seems unfinished and underdeveloped. To help me understand the value of Tana, could you please provide specific examples of its unique features and benefits that are not available in other tools? This would be helpful in clarifying why Tana might be a better choice for certain situations.
What the hell is Tana and why can't I find a single link as to how to sign up for it?
You can go to www.tana.inc and learn more about the app :)
Until Tana does something seriously in Mobile other than basic capture, this app is useless to me.
