    In the white board where you say “Heptabase has it all but better” you show Mem on the bottom under the header AI note taking. This seems to insinuate that Heptabase has AI features but you guys didn’t mention any. Do they have AI features? Right now I think the ability to ask questions of an AI and have it respond with answers across your entire note database it the killer app. It’s what’s makes Mem so powerful. And I’ve been able to add it to Obsidian as well (though it doesn’t work as well.) If Heptabase has an “ask my vault/database” feature I’d become extremely interested.

BTW, until you have a course up and running, which app do NOW Use as a document dump -- Evernote's core feature, WEB-CLIPPER, etc. Thx again for doing the hard work of sorting through all of the noise of the 'latest and greatest' new apps/tech.

    Thank you so much for this overview! I see exactly why you are both so excited about Heptabase, as I have been finding the same utility gaps and overly complicated implementations from other applications. I like Tana, Obsidian, Craft, Logseq, Milanote, and Scrintal, though none of these nailed the "let's just get on with it" approach I wanted from a productivity application. I got lost in the Obsidian plugin rabbit hole and carried away with the Tana supertags. With Heptabase, I get what I need and can benefit from the visual representation of the Map. Obsidian can do all sorts of things, though it reminds me of earlier versions of Microsoft Windows, where items got taped together. I need polish and web-based access. The developer of Heptabase is very clever and has a clear vision for integrating features within a productivity application. As for my plans B and C, I find the Heptabase and Craft get along well together, and with both Heptabase and Craft, I have the regular backup to Obsidian (in case Obsidian gets the polish ad web-based front end I need). With Heptabase, I'm again excited about taking notes. I can't get over just how good this application is, and I wouldn't have given it much thought if it wasn't for your video.

      @pacocanteropaperlessmoveme7873 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, @CLocs0!!! Thanks for your feedback. Roam began my journey to linked notes moving from Evernote after 10 years using the elephant (you can imagine the shock!). You won't need that migration course, as Heptabase has subtleties that will remind you a lot to Roam, an amazing tool and disruptive tool at that moment. On top of that, Heptabase is thought to be as simple as possible for users, as it has distilled the best of many note-taking tools, so the learning curve is much shorter. Finally, you'll see that, instead of ending with a graph you don't even understand (at least, that was my final destination), you'll have build an amazing PKM that'll let you take action to achieve your goals. I have no doubt! I've been using and testing all these workflows for decades using different tools. The beauty of Heptabase is that now I just need one tool to cover them all! Stay tuned!

      I thought the way Paco and Tom riffed together in the presentation was actually great. I have watched it a few times now before signing up to Heptabase. Try watch it 1.5 speed and Paco is really on fire then. :-). Seriously though, I think a structured non-interruption version has its place in a training environment but when you got two guys bursting at the seams with enthusiasm for the product then some leeway is needed to run freely to get their thoughts out so people can get a non-filtered honest input from the two. That's why we'll create a course based on Heptabase, the tool we consider that fits the best to busy professionals to move their information to clearly defined actions that'll let them achieve their goals. So, stay tuned!

    If you add that up over time, it will grow.

      Guys, how can we consider this app without any explanation of the apps security, encryption, data processing location, view / position on user’s data rights, Heptabase’s ability to read / see our data, etc…???
      In this day and age of government overreach, data privacy and security are table stakes! Doesn’t matter how pretty and interesting it is, if my data isn’t mine and mine alone!

    • @paperlessmovement
      @paperlessmovement  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Again, look at their website where every tool has to show all the details you are demanding. It’s in your own responsibility to read the terms & conditions of any product or service you sign up for. If you can or cannot use a tool also varies heavily between companies you want to use those tools in. Making a video about this legal area of a tool is dangerous as things change over time so the information in the video will be outdated very quickly. We are here to show you what’s possible to do with those tools. If in doubt ask your legal advisor or cyber security expert in your company.

    • @africandreamchild
      @africandreamchild 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @LRMattG @paperlessmovement . I watched the video with the owner who backups directly to his own drive. So whilst I agree Heptabase privacy overall not great at the moment with no E2EE you can self store for time being. No doubt Alan and his team will develop privacy especially with new technologies like P2P which takes Privacy to where think most want it, complete control and privacy. For Tom and Paco, LRMattG comments echos many peoples concerns about Privacy and often basing their decision to use it and rightly so on it. The interview with Heptbase convinced me that Alan (who is next level smart) will add additional privacy measures going forward and not ignore these concerns. They have also Markdown export so if want to exit if they don’t add additional privacy in the future then you have that option. After signing up and having the most frictionless start happy to give Heptabase leeway to improve security.

    I'm very much a visual note-taker, and find that using a card as an atomic unit is important that I can link to other cards with ease. Being able to see each card and it's relationship with other cards is very powerful as this the catalyst for more ideas or spotting gaps or opportunities. I'm please that Hyptabase can do this as this is an important feature.
    Yes, Obsidian has the Canvas but this is a bolt on as the relationship created in the canvas aren't reflected as a BD link.
    Heptabase is missing a key feature which is the reason I don't use it, which granted isn't an important reasons for many and that is it doesn't have the ability to collaborate with other people and for me this is a showstopper. Scrintal on the otherhand does have this ability, it does visual note-taking and is $5 a month less than Heptabase. Scrintal confidentially has an export to markdown feature so if it isn't for you you can migrate to elsewhere.

    Firstly, let me clarify a few things:
    I subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago, and have enjoyed your videos very much. Your approach towards concepts rather than specific products (only) is commendable, wise, and thoughtful, as products come and go.
    My comments on this product, were made using my iPad, and I was trying to keep it short and pithy; didn’t mean to sound aggressive - my apologies. Still my underlying concerns remain.
    I am willing to pay a subscription for products that provide a high level of security, data protection, and privacy.

    The Use of Data section implies heavy inspection, reading, scraping analysis of user data by Heptabase’s technicians.
    The sentence is rather chilling, “We will retain your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy.” … when users decide to leave a product, they expect to be able to export and wipe their existence.
    There is a section, Transfer of Data, that does imply the primary data processing / retention will be in, or moved to, the United States, but doesn’t go further into details.
    The Disclosure of Data section may be the most concerning, with statements concerning the disclosure of personal data to affiliates for various reasons. None of that is assuring for data privacy.
    There are several sections about data privacy laws (this is good), and a section about the “selling of user data”, which users can request be ceased, but making the user’s data commercially viable, AFTER paying for subscription, isn’t likely what most user’s will understand unless they read the fine print.

It's a crucial part of what we think is necessary to develop thinking. Anyway, it's a great tool to make a comparison with in the future. So thanks again for sharing! 💚

      I was in the group of Alpha testers of Anytype, and you cannot compare both tools as they have different approaches to the world of note-taking. Yet, Anytype is an amazing product with a fantastic approach!

      There will be a proper comparison video coming soon. But to start with, it would be the whiteboards. It's not about providing one (like Canvas in Obsidian) but how it's integrated with the overall knowledge management system. Stay tuned for more on that soon! 💚

      I"m a huge Obsidian-fan, but as I see the key point what hooked me to Heptabase is how all of the features are implemented with focusing on one single main goal: to serve your thinking, to let you create new texts based on the existing knowledge base. Everything implemented in Hepta is there for a good reason, while Obsidian offers a swiss-army knife for your thinking, it is a general tool which has a tons of plugins because of the strong community (including myself). Which means that it has a bit longer learning curve, days or even weeks to set up your own system. The other side of the coin is Obsidian offers offline-first, everything what you write there, is stored as plain text. While hepta offers import/export to md, but it does not contain your connection settings, colors, link labels etc. I hope they improve it in the future.

      I’ve been using Hepta for a year and IMO the core difference is the user experience rather than any specific feature. Hepta really shines at getting me hooked into the flow of thinking and help me do my work better. In Obsidian, there's a lot of similar features, but they just aren't as nicely integrated together as Hepta.

      @@ARNBNDL Hi! I've spent couple of hours to compare them in many aspects and I would say that currently Hepta's import/export functionality is still not complete, which makes it a bit vendor-locker. In concept you're right, these are the same Whiteboards are canvases, cards are notes. But, while Hepta is a well-designed specific tool to create your next note based on the existing ones, Obsidian offers plenty of options and plugins (more than 1000!) which means that you can lost in them easily. I wanted to set up a constellation of plugins and settings in Obsidian which serves is relatively same workflow (like creating a new note while you keep some open) and it has taken 4+ hours with research and investigation. This is what Hepta is offering, to turn it to zero.
      But, as Hepta still have a very limited Application for mobiles, and as I said it lacks in aspect of import/export, I still did not moved from Obsidian. Nevertheless the Hepta guys mentioned that they're working on these, so I hope they will be able to deliver the fixes/improvements relatively soon.

    Coming from Obsidian, I spent weeks with Heptabase and have to say: Why exactly does this "beat" Obsidian, I just don't see it. I am lacking lots of usability and features like full PDF indexing from Heptabase. Heptabase seems like a nice concept with very few features, zero plugins and no integrations outside of Readwise? I just cancelled my Heptabase account, going back to Obsidian.

Many of our members are already very busy in their jobs, not as excited as others customizing Obsidian PLUS they prefer to get web access to their content. Those are the people who we’ll help to be pragmatic and use simple to use but still best in market tools. More about this in our upcoming video. So stay tuned if you want to learn more about our why behind Heptabase. You might be surprised 😉💚

    Of course you’re tool agnostic, you then get to sell a new course for the new tool.
    Confirmation bias at it’s finest.
    Any guy that hops tools the way you do is:
    1. Very ungerman
    2. Not serious about productivity which must be underscored by stability.
    Goof ball.

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It seems there might be a misunderstanding about what the Paperless Movement represents and how our ICOR methodology operates within the realm of productivity.
      We embrace a tool-agnostic approach not to promote frequent tool-switching, but to empower professionals to choose tools that best align with their unique workflows and challenges. This approach is deeply rooted in our ICOR methodology, which stands for INPUT, CONTROL, OUTPUT, and REFINE. Each stage is designed to enhance productivity holistically, regardless of the tools used.
      Our focus is on the process and effectiveness, rather than loyalty to any specific tool. This aligns well with the diverse and evolving needs of busy professionals who we cater to. Stability in productivity doesn't necessarily come from using a single tool, but from a consistent and adaptable framework that supports various tools and technologies as needs evolve.
      Your points about cultural expectations and seriousness in productivity are noted. However, we believe that being adaptable and responsive to changing technological landscapes is a strength, especially in today's fast-paced world. Our courses and community support reflect this ethos.
      I hope this clarifies our stance. We’re committed to providing valuable, practical solutions for enhanced productivity, and we welcome any further questions or discussions about our methods and philosophy.

      It's clear that your “approach" aligns with your business interests, which seems like a classic case of confirmation bias. This strategy might be beneficial for creating new courses and clickbait, but it may not always serve the best interests of the users.
      Consider the perspective of Tiago Forte on tools. His high credibility stems from not having a vested interest in promoting specific tools through courses.
      Additionally, your frequent switching between tools doesn't align with the German reputation for efficiency. This practice isn't efficient at all. It raises questions about your adherence to the German ethos known for prioritizing efficiency, as your approach seems more focused on exploring different tools (e.g., questioning if something is a 'Notion killer' or a 'Mem killer') rather than sticking to a consistent, efficient system.
      Are you not ethically German? Maybe Polish? Tool hoping is very Untermensch.
      This constant tool-hopping, seemingly for content creation and course sales, borders on toxic productivity. It's unrealistic for the average person or "busy professional" to switch tools so frequently. While there's nothing wrong with making money or entrepreneurship, this method contributes to the toxic nature of the productivity space.
      It might be beneficial to reevaluate and address the potential confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance in your approach and take notes from Tiago.
      On another note, it seems like all your videos are promos for your courses and lack concrete value other than funnels into your membership.

    Dislike on this one. Why Obsidian beats Heptabase, Heptabase cost too much money and the mobile app is super terrible. As far as I concerned, Heptabase is super crap software because of the paywall, or it simply doesn't exist because of the paywall. Mobile app is a joke. Either way Heptabase is a poor option for any serious note taker and Obsidian is King for all the obvious reasons. Privacy, markdowns, AI, FULLY FUNCTIONAL mobile app, FREE, plug ins etc etc. Heptabase looks great from what you are showing but honestly, as they ripped off other note apps I'm sure someone will rip this one off too and make it free.
