I had been going to a Greek parish, went to a Serbian parish (where I now am) and I was completely lost! I am now partial to the Serbian church and will be staying at Holy Archangel Michael and All Angels Skete in Missouri this next week.
I'm always surprised of how many people come to services wearing beach clothing or secondhand clothing and old ratty shoes. God is an artist and you're made in the image of God. Be what God made you to be.
@@OrthodoxReview Yep, it is very distracting for the Reader and the people who want to listen. They usually get a stern look from the priest, or sometimes a good telling off in my parish
Hey Raphael! Thanks for the clarification! I'm not new to the church but I did learn a bit. One area that I'd like to learn more about is when to bow, I know by experience that every time the Trinity is mentioned, or when they say Gospodi Pomilui (Lord have mercy) are the most obvious moments. Also, it would be great to review basic responses like Gospodi Pomilui, the paschal greeting, etc.
Thanks Raphael! I'll add my own 2 cents, if I may. When venerating the icons, take your time, don't ever feel rushed, say a prayer and then venerate according to the tradition of your church. Also, ladies, please no lipstick or even chapstick. That could destroy an icon. And one more thing...standing. A HUGE pet peeve of mine is when anyone, who is obviously taller than me, decides to stand directly in front of me, completely blocking my view of the alter/priest. (my church gets extremely crowded)Kindly step to the side or at least turn around and ask if you're blocking the (shorter)person behind you! Whew! Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
I’m always so paranoid about where I stand so as to not block anyone… and I’m just average height 😂. Of course, my nature I’m a corner-dwelling wallflower anyway, and if I have to be “out in the open” I get so much anxiety. Introvert problem. 🤣
@KatWomanHikes Well, if I had it my way, I'd stand in the very back. Practically in the narthex. When I first came to church, that's were I stood for the longest time. But within the past 6 or 7 months, the church has really gained popularity. So many people coming....and staying! It was so crammed in the back, I forced myself to move forward, though I'd be more comfortable in the back. Oh well, it's all good.
When we attend church, it is to direct our attention and worship to Christ. Attire that takes the attention away from Christ and to yourself does not promote a reverent and spiritual attitude. You are not the focus, Christ is. Wear something “nice” if you can, be respectful, you are standing in the presence of the King of the Universe.
Forgive me a sinner...Raphael, im in the Antiochian Church and i was taught when receiving a blessing its right hand above left to take the Priest or Bishops hand...then Father (or Saynida (Master), with a bow, no cross) bless...is left hand above right hand of the Slavic tradition?, just genuinely curious...as I have gone to a Slavic church and noticed many differences...thank you for your time...
No, this error was brought to you by the fact that I'm half asleep most of the time these days and occasionally I get things wrong.Thank you so much for correcting me pointing it out. ☦︎☦︎☦︎
I feel your pain my brother...I've recently been gifted the cross of disability and have to take new medications that affect me adversely...my God grant us both endurance to persevere our trials...I mean no harm in my inquiry, nor wish to evoke any ill feelings, rather my own uneducated curiosity, please forgive me if my comment may have caused you any disturbance. May God have mercy on us. @OrthodoxReview
I'm 45. I have tattoos because I wanted them. I haven't always been Orthodox, but, regardless, there is a long and venerable history of tattooing in the holy land fir many reasons... How old are you? What are you curious about tattoos? Are you curious about anything else?

"Church is not a fashion show." I love that. I'm exploring Christian Orthodoxy! I love your content! May Jesus Christ bless you, brother.
Glory to God!
Perfect timing! I’m going to go to my local church first time either tomorrow or next Sunday!
And for the people who have been coming to church for years. Shut up until after the post Communion prayers! C'mon its only another 5 mins 😂
Major pet peeve of minr

Bingo
I live in the south. The ONLY time I wear pants is to Church on Sunday. I never wear shorts. I almost never wear button-down shirts, though.
Never knew you where a fellow southerner

Hi Raph
Hi
Could you tell me what the chant is from your intro? I love it and I dig the shirt.
The shirt is from my favorite local dive bar. The song can actually be found in my playlists. It's marked as such.

Yes. I say we all return to wearing just a simple tunic with sandals. Uber Trad.
