The cockpit undoubtedly took the biggest hit in the downsizing of the new set. Feels a little sad to only squeeze one fig in compared to almost 3 on the old one

@@espguitarz1 I don't think this is the case. As mentioned above, the main reason is the shelf display tends to be most important for builders, and without making the ship to minifig scale (neither T-6 is minifig scale), they chose to shrink the cockpit/interior so the exterior looks nice. With a ship of that scale, you can't have both a minifig scale interior and proportional exterior. You have to choose. The only solution to this, of course, is to have a full model, which is why the more famous ships (like Luke's X-Wing) have a smaller playset ship and the full minifig scale ship. Or do you want all the sets to either be larger interiors with bad proportions, or do you want them to be 3x as expensive to be full minifig scale?

I honestly prefer the rigid wing spin motion, it is really hard to get the Ahsoka shuttle to stay in one position, and the wing lock on the old one solves this issue perfectly
I think the downsized cockpit is a deal breaker for me. Major issue, and it really gives the ship a "small-scale" vibe. The immersion is broken, so to speak. Even though overall the new ship's design is nicer and the storage is good, the 1-minifigure space for the cockpit is just plain bad/inaccurate. This lack of space in the ships is a terrible trend recently - from Boba Fett's ship to this. What happened to creativity, like the one used for design of Razor Crest or Transport Scythe? I'd rather this ship to be $30-$40 more expensive but nail the interior space. It would be perfect then.
100% see where your are coming from here, but I will say with the scale they went the small cockpit does look good and a bigger cockpit wouldn’t look right. That being said I agree they should have made a bigger set entirely so more figures could fit in a larger scaled cockpit.
@@brennanhickey9156 scale is arbitrary… they could have scaled it up or down however they wanted. It could have gone Mando Gauntlet design and had two figures fit length wise too.
Same, I was thinking it would be neat to display this ship in "flight mode" with the wings vertical like we see most of the time on screen. But lego ignoring the underwings basically kill that option.
i actually prefer the simpler design of the older model. it's way more clean and displayable, plus the new one has so many tiny little pieces that create a cluttered look
I’m a really big fan of the dark grey and red of the new one. It just looks so modern and satisfying. To bad it’s just a little to small, banger mini figs tho.
Thanks for the comparison. Never got the old one but I'm excited to get the new one. $80 is a great value for this set. I can see any or all of these minifigures being valuable years in the future. Getting this on sale for an investment seems like a good idea. Best ashoka minifig ever, remake of a classic rebels character, first ever version of a clone wars character, and a mysterious character whose revealed identity could increase its value. Seems like a win especially on sale.
Ahsoka show version of the T-6 features an extra engine and that rear turret. The Clone Wars and Rebels models didn’t have that. I like the new one’s body shaping more, the old one is super simple and round looking. I like the angles of the new one. A bigger cockpit would need a bigger set, the next appropriate cockpit would be one like the Falcon uses. And I think they’d have to scale up the wings and body for it to not look too funny.
The one thing I can say for sure about the two T-6 is that the builds are heavily limited due to their price point. Which makes me wonder ships like the Justifier gets $170 while a big ship like the T-6 is reduced to a star fighter sized set.
Your comparison series are always some of my favorite videos you make! Especially in this video, the quality is great and more importantly the video is timeless! Great work Ryan! I like both the sets and will get the new 1!
The new one has better detailed figures, and I like that the center has some good bulk. The old one has it seems more correct colors, and it is larger. Not to mention that they used red on both sides for the old one. I still think I prefer the 2023
The wings on the old one really are only meant to be seen from the top. The red panels on the underside are only there to accent the top side and give it a red trim around the edge from the top view. The bottom view of the old one is pretty bad. I wish they’d done like the Mandalorian fighter and paneled the bottom of the new one.
I do wish they added detail to the underside of the wings. I would normally display it on the ceiling to make it look like its actively flying, however its more difficult where the ome side is too bland. I may just hang it on my wall instead
I think it is a decent visual distinction between the eras. A clean Jedi Order era shuttle vs an older modded one post-Empire. They definitely designed it to look junkier in Ahsoka than it did in the animated shows.
Lego has obviously gotten more technologically advanced and so is able to make their sets more movie accurate in terms of design, but apart from that I'd say the 2011 set trumps the 2023 set in every way. The 2011 set had more play features, it was bigger, it looked cooler (even if less accurate) and while the minifigures were obviously less detailed back then, the variety of minifigures is significantly better than the 2023 set. I'd also personally set the big engines of the older set look way better than the newer ones, and I've always preferred the flick-fire missiles to the stud shooters. In fact this is the first time I've heard anyone say they disliked flick-fire missiles or liked stud shooters lol. The smooth spinning of the new set can be a plus but it can also be a nuisance as it turns by itself when there is a slight bit of uneven weight distribution, I don't know about the old set's turning. This is coming from someone who owns the 2023 set but not the 2011 set.
This is a perfect example of shrinkflation. It has more pieces and costs more but is smaller. Lego uses TONS of small pices to achieve detail that I'd rather have done with stickers. There's also thr cockpit. The new one looks like something somebody would actually sut in but the old one was bigger and when it comes to toys, bigger is better.
I think if they kept the size the same and made even the slightest attempt to color-match the underside of the ship to the front side than that $80 price point would make perfect sense.
Lego does do more detail now. But they are inconsistent. They will give us an incredibly detailed Boba Fett in a $15 set but give characters like Commander Fox a blatantly inaccurate print in a $140 set, or not give Rex a waistcape in a $600 set
i like the red and grey because it looks more realistic, i mean these ships fly tru space and land on various planets. they will get dirty and gritty and the color will degrade so i think the grey is better then white.
The 2023 T-6 has a double layered win: they could have "simply" flipped that layer to make it less horrendous on the underside. Huge miss, but to be expected at the price point, as making such a flip stable would be more involved.
