My personal favourite was the creative transition. So simple, but it looks fantastic ! It's so quick that it gives an impression of fast-forwarding through the video - very clever!
1. Celebrate your location: show and let others know where you are 2. Camera movement: move camera for static objects, track moving objects 3. Short clips: 5 - 10 seconds enough for video editing 4. Creative transitions: make scenes transition natural 5. People: including people in the frame makes video more lively Very helpful 🎉
I’m a retired cameraman. What fun it would have been to have all these tools. I have a mirrorless camera but probably shoot most of my international/domestic travel videos on my iPhone. Steve, you do a bang up job in your presentations, very creative. It is like my golf game, I don’t play anymore but I enjoy watching well done, informative videos. 😅
There must be heaps of videos on TH-cam about how to shoot travel videos, but this one is by far the best and easiest one to follow. Clearly described, thoughtfully explained, and keeping everything short and simple-perfect!
Teaching is a difficult task and only the gifted have that quality. I love watching your tutorials. Thank you for all the lovely videos that you make. Subscribed!
All people need to further improve the footage is to clip on an ND filter to shoot at correct shutter speeds in 24fps and 60/120fps by doubling shutter speed of the frame rate. Always been one of my favourite channels, been watching for years
Excellent short video. Just got my new iPhone (owned many, never fully utilized) and have been itching to use it. I have been inspired to learn more and go out and create!
I watch a lot of filming/editing videos for inspiration, and to improve my skills. This channel always has the best. The advice is always focused, clear and genuinely inspirational. Thank you!
That past-paced is soo entertaining. This is the trend nowadays- keep the eye entertained (story-telling is a must) the swconds of changing the views is soooo satisfying
Steve, as always, an informative, well organized presentation full of really useful tips. I always learn something new or take away at least one creative idea from every one of your videos. Thanks for doing what you do!
@deborahpondermance2795 Thank you so much! It means a lot to hear that you’re finding value in the videos and taking away creative ideas. Comments like yours are what keep me inspired to keep creating-so thank YOU for watching and supporting! 😊
QUESTION!! Most of my travels are in less busy places. Small towns, wilderness, hiking, lakes....I'm thinking this type of 'flash' cinematic style while being very much in tune with the busy city vibe, would not lend itself to nature's more tranquil, quiet, relaxed mood. Do you think slightly longer clips would change the feel of this style to be more in tune with those kinds of shots? Looking for ways to create B-rolls of the scenes I encounter, without just panning or zooming in and out. Thanks a ton!!
I have been a fan of your videos. Like the blue car walk around you did awhile back. I’m on a slump with creating videos. It seems storage issues overwhelms me. And best way to archive so I can easily find stuff years after. 😅
Bonjour, merci beaucoup pour tous ces conseils . J’ai regardé pas mal de vidéo sur TH-cam, mais pas dans ces excellents conseils précis et clairs . Merci 🙏 Hello, thank you very much for all this advice. I watched a lot of videos on TH-cam, but not in these excellent precise and clear tips. Thank you 🙏
Another fantastic tutorial-thank you for this. Did you film in Apple ProRes and Apple Log since I don’t see an external SSD? I can’t wait for part 2. And the idea of using fades with moving images is brilliant!
Amazing as always. Could you please also cover the format you are using for shooting these clips? Are they ProRes? I will be in London just before the Christmas so hopefully will capture some amazing shots
Thanks, you can too. It just takes a bit of practice that's all. I have plenty more tutorials on my channel, check them out and I'm sure you'll learn the skills needed fast! Thanks for watching.
@LearnOnlineVideo I would be happy if I could record videos with my Osmo Pocket 3, like you do hands-hold with your smartphone, and I've already watched all of your videos. 👍😉
Every one of your vlogs is so beautiful. Tried to get some shots like this but everything got mixed up. But you are awesome
Hi Steve, I loved your video on shooting a short film with a smartphone! Super inspiring and packed with great tips. Would it be possible to share the raw footage you used in the video? I'd love to study your techniques more closely. Thanks for the awesome content!
Hi @chandankumardey5641 Sure, I’ll put together a good mix of shots and add them to a Google Drive folder. I’ll share them in part two of this video, which will be released soon. Stay tuned - Steve
Shooting movements and transitions and include people are my favorite tips. I have a travel channel and your tips are very helpful. I hope my channel will grow fast 😊 thank you very much! ❤
Thanks, this was a super minimal shoot this one. I just wanted to shoot using nothing but my phone and built in camera app to show what's possible (sometimes I'll use an ND with Pro camera app though). London was a great location for this shoot but I'm back to Dartmoor now :-)
Hey Steve I am from Bharat. I love West Minister Abbey. I heard in my 10th class Lesson. By our Author V K Gokak. Always I thought that why U will not make a video in this spot, but now U made 🙃
Hello thanks for all you content love it and very helpful8 Btw I would like to know how and with which camera you did your youtube video please? I think you mix for this one may be your main camera (Canon R6) and some shoots from an insta360 X3 or X4 ? I see the magnetic attach on you backpack. Am I right? Thanks!
I'm aiming for a cinematic feel with a 6x19 aspect ratio, but I’m worried about the editing challenges, especially when posting it across different platforms (FB, IG, TikTok, YT Shorts). Do you think it's better to stick with platform-specific aspect ratios, or is there a universal one that works well everywhere? Would love your thoughts!
For the best results, shoot your videos in a platform-specific aspect ratio. If your video will only be used as a vertical format, shoot vertically. While you can shoot in 16:9 and repurpose those shots for vertical formats, it often compromises your framing and composition, which can detract from your video’s overall look and feel. I encounter this issue frequently. An alternative is to use a camera that allows you to decide the aspect ratio during editing. For instance, the Insta360 X4, which I used to shoot the behind-the-scenes footage for this video, lets you adjust the aspect ratio in post-production, making it incredibly useful for creating videos across multiple platforms. Hope this helps!
@LearnOnlineVideo Not in person. You made a cameo appearance in one of the Horse Guard TH-cam channels. A mentally disturbed man in an orange jacket was giving the Guard a lecture while you filmed. Thanks for all the tips! Love your channel.
Hi Steve Thank you very much for your wonderful videos. I really learned a lot by watching you film in London. I now shoot almost everything on my iPhone, which I love. I am a volunteer at Auto Museum and I’ve been photographing or videotaping the Docents😮 explaining the details about the different cars And near Auto Museum. I can’t wait to see your next tutorial where you do the editing of all of the video that you shot in London. Pat Hogarty from El Dorado Hills California.
After witnessing so many phone snatches in London, I was extra cautious this time. I even considered strapping the phone to my wrist! I also had a behind-the-scenes camera mounted on my chest during the shoot-so if my phone did get stolen, at least I’d have a great video and story to share. 😊
Follow the action means the tracking shot. The tracking shot is any shot that moves the camera forward, backward, and alongside the subject being recorded. I recognize the shot before.
What was your favourite tip and when will you use it next? Let me know below 👇 🎥👌
I never thought about creating my own transitions! Love this idea!
My personal favourite was the creative transition. So simple, but it looks fantastic ! It's so quick that it gives an impression of fast-forwarding through the video - very clever!
The unique transitions 🎉
The really fast transition pan is a good one.
Please shoot more of those travel videos
1. Celebrate your location: show and let others know where you are
2. Camera movement: move camera for static objects, track moving objects
3. Short clips: 5 - 10 seconds enough for video editing
4. Creative transitions: make scenes transition natural
5. People: including people in the frame makes video more lively
Very helpful 🎉

There must be heaps of videos on TH-cam about how to shoot travel videos, but this one is by far the best and easiest one to follow. Clearly described, thoughtfully explained, and keeping everything short and simple-perfect!
my vlog views 25k in 3 days, my new vlogging facebook page, and all credits goes to you, you are the best teacher on youtube about videography❤️

Agree 100%!
I really appreciate you making this and I wish I had seen it sooner. I'm probably going to re-watch it a few times until everything sticks, thank you.
You're very welcome @YouMotorcycle glad you enjoyed it!
That past-paced is soo entertaining. This is the trend nowadays- keep the eye entertained (story-telling is a must) the swconds of changing the views is soooo satisfying
I agree but no fast cutting and letting scenes play out for context is a must.
I try to find a balance...
Amazing video, You made me love London even more despite the fact i've been living here for the past 25 years. I am really looking forward to part 2.
Really useful advice. I made a video of London and it was boring and static. Now I've got some ideas for making much more engaging vids - thanks!
చాలా ఉపయోగకరమైన వీడియో.. అద్భుతమైన షేరింగ్ సూపర్.. brother 👏👏👏
Thank you so much, it helped me understand transition parts and how to work with them 🤩
Brilliant video. I love the way you illustrate simple ways to elevate what youre filming.

Let your content dictate your editing pace. Longer clips would work for your content, and possibly using slow motion.
Cinematic needs us to understand it. And you understand it well.❤
AWesome video!! looking forward to part 2
Coming November 29th :-)

I like the way you do it.

I figured you would have a video from London soon because I caught a glimpse of you filming on a few of the Kings Horse Guard channels.
Wait, did you see me filming in London? If you did, you should have come to Hi. I love meeting subscribers on my travels 👌
@LearnOnlineVideo Not in person. You made a cameo appearance in one of the Horse Guard TH-cam channels. A mentally disturbed man in an orange jacket was giving the Guard a lecture while you filmed.
Thanks for all the tips! Love your channel.
I left you a Facebook message with the Channel name, the video title and timestamp. I did not want to advertise channel on here.

I learnt alot thanks 👍🏻. I'm actually a beginner in videography
To be honest i admire your bravery for getting a mobile phone out in London
