I can't thank you enough man, im not the most experienced person in these kinds of stuff and so im always a little bit insecure about messing up all these voltage shit and potentially breaking my pc.
I wen't from hitting about 81/82Cº in cinebench with a H150i cappelix at probs 70%-80% fan speed to a mere 67-69Cº with 35-40% fan speed just by following what you did.
Not a single reviewer has given an easy to follow solution for the unexperienced for this problem like you have, again, thank you!

I just stumbled on your video a few months after I have bought my CPU and the temps were the only issue for me, reaching 80C easily and maxing 90 on a 360mm AIO and I tried using clocktuner for Ryzen and it did help a little bit but temps still got very high, then after watching your video and using your settings gets me to 78 max with a performance increase (14700 previously, 14900 currently) so I thank you very much for your video.

Your a life saver man! All I found before were videos about it running hot but no solutions. I noticed right away on my new build going from my 2700x to the 5800x. I was running 88-90c under load with an MSI Mag 240mm AIO in a push/pull setup.
After using Ryzen master to tweak the settings. I instantly saw a huge drop. Running 72-74c in cinebench tests and only lost 0.2 ghz across all cores. Boost all cores to 4.4ghz. I am running an x470 MB, eventually I will get an x570 board and spend more time really tweaking it.
You have gave me peace of mind and a great starting point. I was about to return it and start saving for a 5900x. Saved me that headache and prob $180.

Thank you very much for this video and your instructions. Though I am an IT guy, BIOSes can be difficult to navigate due to terminology differences between manufacturers, CPU generations, etc. Your comments were insightful (and amusing, too), and your explanation of this heating issue is the best I have found thus far. After taking the few seconds to make the BIOS changes, my system is now running MUCH cooler with lower fan speeds, and I do not see any performance degradation whatsoever. Again, many thanks! :)

PPT 120, TDC 100, EDC 80, idle at 30 degrees, max temp is 48 degrees with an Arctic Liquid Cooler II 360. CPU Voltage is set to a negative -0.15 offset and core optimization is set to negative 10 on the 2 favorite cores and 15 on all the others. Continuous slow creep to 90c in about 5 minutes while gaming, thermal throttling, games stuttering, cpu temp warning alert, the works. Using a Cooler Master MasterAir MA410M and 6 case fans. Was about to sell this thing cuz I tried so much stuff. Used your exact settings and temps down by about 15 to 20c depending on the game, idling at 45c, no more stuttering in games even when it hits the max 85c limit, and for the first time my chip broke clean through the 5Ghz barrier. I went from hating to loving this cpu lmao. You're the man!!

The info in this video is quite amazing. First, I have great cpu cooling with a noctua nh-d15s with two fans and great case air flow.
With pbo on and ppt, tdc edc set to auto, my 5800x runs about 82c after a 5 minute run of cinebench r20, and 70-75c while playing games which is well within specs and is okay, but then...
Using the info here I set PPT to 115, TDC to 100, and EDC to 80, and now it runs at 70c which is 15 degrees cooler and only loses a few hundred points from the cinebench score. I lost about 3 fps in games.
15 degrees cooler and 3 fps loss in gaming which is not enough of a performance loss to notice.
    Thanks.

@THEnelsonbruhs You will take a hit on the cinebench score, but check your clock speeds. Mine boost to 4.85 on all cores regularly. Actually hit 5ghz, but that isn't the norm and wasn't on all cores.

    • @Scortd
      @Scortd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@THEnelsonbruhs Cinebench score is slightly lowered, but the performance is still incredible, don't worry too much about score (unless it drops severely, like under 12k). The temp control is the important thing. At the out of the box temps the chip is sure to fail prematurely and/or your system will be forced to experience constant shutdowns (if gaming and such).

Most motherboards have an ECO setting, and PBO presets for lower wattages, and many even have a setting to limit the temperature. If the 90°C temperature limit concerns you, try those settings - no need to get fancy or complicated. Using a Curve Optimizer negative offset lowers the core voltage, but the processor compensates by upping the clocks, so you get higher clock speeds at the same temperatures. That is how all the 5000 CPUs are all designed to work. They run the clock speeds up until the CPU hits 90°C. You can easily drop the temperature by 10°C by simply using one of the aforementioned presets, and you'll only see a 2% to 3% performance reduction in all-core loads.

Okay tried it with some modifications of my own. My 5800X seems to be getting nerfed by ASUS BIOS updates. 6.1k to 5.9k CB20. No idea why this is the case. I was worried about the thermal performance at first because it's dismal considering that I'm running the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420mm. I've tried offset mounts and different thermal pastes to no avail. Thermal paste spread was fairly consistent too.
For my old settings that got me the 5.9k score, it was running at -25 on all cores (Curve Optimiser) and peaked at 84 degrees.
    I tried these settings
    PPT: 125
    TDC: 100
    EDC: 80
    Curve Optimiser: -25 all core
All core boost reads between 4.6-4.65Ghz and the temps max out at 79 degrees. All core score is still 5.9k ish. I experienced a drop to 5.65k for 115W so 125W worked better for my specific CPU. Overall, I'd say that the guide worked great as a starting point. Thanks for sharing!

      C5: -15

It's not a good idea because AMD chips are more susceptible to high current damage than high voltage. If you force low voltage on an AMD chip you force high current which will degrade your chip quicker, this misconception about keeping voltage low is due to intel chips working in reverse where voltage is the main degradation point when having mediocre current.

@@jamarcus_OG the current will rise the higher the temps are going to get as well. Manual mode also has no protection against to much current either as you can see if you open ryzen master when you check your limits. While manual does lower powerdraw it does raise current and removes limits completely leaving your cpu to get quite current hungry.
Its not going to instantly kill your cpu or anything but your cpu will get more unstable over the next few weeks and youll have to steadily up the voltage since the chip degrades.

@@danishblunt9698 So your suggestion are .. ? If I'm not wrong, a simple rule (not exact by any means) states that W=V•A , so to draw 104W=1,2V • 87,5A (theoretical) . With default (or Auto) mobo bios settings 143W=1,413V • 101A (theoretical) with the default settings. If you want proof , I still have screenshots of the tests and values detected...

Im running it in a node 202 which cant hold a big cooler (yes i know it isn't smart). i overclocked it to 4.2ghz and undervolted to 1.35v and now it maxes out in the 60's. first of all i do agree with this guy and yes i left a big comment on that dude saying don't buy this and that, which is total BS
and as someone who dealt with at least 15 Ryzen 2 and Ryzen 3 CPUs i can say that the motherboards are super generous with the voltage which makes the CPU go nuts and exceed what so many people consider "safe temps"
but you take just one minute and actually check the bios or maybe update it to support PBO 2.0 you will see that the temps will go down and the performance will remain the same, it's really simple you just need to have an idea on how the voltage is over supplied to the CPU
also we didn't have this issue with the Zen+ CPUs they ran cool and didn't have any temp spikes even if they used a IO die + a CCD on one side of the IHS.
my X570 was literally chocking my CPU with a lot of voltage on auto settings making it idle at 55c ffs 55c on idle that's not great but after some tinkering i got it down to 40c on idle and 73c under load
while gaming it's always around the high 50s low 60s depending on how CPU demanding the title is
so no go out and get any Zen 3 CPU that you can get your hands on, they are literally the best out there.

I snapped up my 5800x from OCUK when they briefly went on sale for £380. Running it with just XMP and PBO enabled had me pushing past 85c playing Cyberpunk under a 360 AIO. After I confirmed it wasn't a bad mount I was getting close to RMAing it. A run with Ryzentuner gained nothing of note but surprisingly it rated my chip as a golden sample. The PBO Voltage offset feature getting added confirmed why. -30 is stable in use but will see the occasional crash if left idle for several hours. -28 is bomb proof for me. ~6200 Cinebench scores without a clean windows install and 4.750 ghz all core boost all day long. The one let down is that I seem to hit a wall at 4.850ghz single core and I'm yet to find a way to get past that. 623 Cinebench single core is passable at least. I'm damn glad I didn't return this thing though. I'm genuinely curious if it's sustained 4750mhz all core boost has it pipping the 5900x in newer more multi threaded games.

      @CknSalad 3 ปีที่แล้ว

John Jenkins the ram config video from GN was half baked. 4x8 is generally equal or slightly better than 2x16 depending on mobo topology. From just reading lots of compiled stats, dual rank is generally 133-200mhz better than single rank dual channel. So 3600cl16 dual rank is about 3600cl14 or 3800cl18 single rank. Also, dual rank will mainly benefit from more cpu bound games. So, games that are more gpu bound maybe naturally or due to running at a higher resolution like 2560x1440, generally not going to see much difference between similar memory timings and speeds.

I bought parts from 3 separate vendors. 5800X, Asus B550-F Gaming and a Cooler Master 240mm AIO. Temps were insanely high in an open box setup. Felt fucked. I didn't know where the problem was. Ordered another cooler (Hyper 212 EVO v2) just to do some troubleshooting (the noise coming from the AIO was unbearable) and avoid dealing with 3 separate vendors.
    Same thing.
Then I cracked open CPU-Z and noticed it was pumping a constant 1.45v to vCore. WTF?! Went into BIOS, tweaked the settings. It's now an all-core 1.25v 4.7GHz with idle temps of 40C and stress tested to 76C. On air. In a closed mini tower case.
    THEN I found your video.
I blame it on the mobo makers, tbh. They don't seem to have proper BIOSes for this piece of kit.

    • @danishblunt9698
      @danishblunt9698  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Well not quite. I would strongly suggest you do not put manual voltage. AMD CPU's have no problem handling high voltage, however they are very susceptible to degradation caused by high current draw and temperature. Manual voltage usually forces the CPU to get out of spec with the amp draw to compensate for the low voltage. When you look for degrading Ryzen CPU you will notice that all are "manual" users.
That being said, 1.45vcore under load is way higher than it should normally be, under load (like cinebench) a 5800x should typically be around 1.2 - 1.3v. Maybe check for beta BIOSes for your motherboard.

Whilst Jay and Steve are trying to rein people in and get them to remain somewhat level headed about various issues with the current tech world/economy. I know this kinda went way more in depth than I meant it to, but I've been feeling the same way that you stated.

@@blackmetalchemist Yeah honestly, its kind of annoying at times, like there is hype to be generated elsewhere and if your sacrificed daily uploads for less frequent but more in depth uploads, maybe he'd get a little bit less algorithm but man he would have really high viewer retention and maybe he would grow slowly but he'd consistently grow and keep existing subs and gain new ones.

I have this processor running at 4758 almost consistent with a Kraken x63 in an $109 MSI case MSI b550 MB I run under 70c while streaming and playing need for speed heat on ultra. So I don't see a problem. CPU is a beast

Hey man, thanks for the great video! I was starting to get really stressed about buying the 5800x until I came across these videos (also the one where you show what settings to edit in bios). I followed all the settings as stated, but my maximum PPT doesn't go above 100W, tested with windows power plan at Balanced and Max performance. Any clue as to why that might be?

  • @JimmyStark77

problem fixed: i format the windows 10 start fresh and now i sit idle with my 5800x 34'c with Arctic Liquid 2 360 AIO before idle 60'c and gaming 83', now gaming 64'c and idle 32-34'C with power plan at Performance and did not touch the bios at all excepted enabling Smart Acess Memory. Boost at 4825-4850 ghz all the core, all the time in gaming. Apex FPS around 299 dont go below 220 with Msi 6800XT trio X. ( Golden Chip )

for whatever reason, my default settings were 480W PPT, 380A TDC and 215A EDC, no wonder it was overheating on my scythe fuma 2 so easily, although it never went above ~108W..
    Thank you!

Endelig en video man kan bruge til noget end alle de hoveder der bare snakker i ring hele tiden og igen. Bare det du giver dig tid til at vise det visuelt er et mega plus. Er sgu mere tryk ved at købe 5800X nu efter at have set din video.

I have an 5900x and it got to 73c in cinebench. Now it gets to 65C and boots until 4950hz. Undervolt is the best!

Did I get an amd blessed 5800x or something? only found this video as I was curious why I saw so many heat comments. I genuinely thought maybe something wasn't right on this build initially it was running that cool idle and games vs what I had seen online. I have done a ton of benchmarks and tests so it isn't just a particular game and even benchmarks that are extremely unrealistic scenarios I think 72 was the highest I ever saw it top out? I believe I had the heater cranking then lol... Games at 1440p and 4k generally about 52 to 59 it will peak at and usually sit in between those numbers. I have had the occasional game or scene in game with low 60s while yesterday in dying light of all things I watched my lcd screen and it was sitting at 66 for some time which at this rate is a rare occasion lol. I know there are cooler cpu than this but yeah for this ones rep wtf is going on with the difference here?

You either have an aio with offset mount or cool n quiet on in bios which is default for many.

Thanks so much. I was thinking my DanCase A4 SFX 5800X build is not possible but as it turns out my CPU was constantly hitting 90°+ in basic tasks because Ryzen Masters default settings somehow were literally the Max values for PPT TDC and EDC now im sitting at a cool 60C in idle and 88 in Aida64
