    Thanks for the "complete" instructions. Other videos I came across failed to show the complete removal process, specifically where you have to use a screwdriver to pry the little tabs out because the squeezing doesn't work. You were a great help! Thanks! 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche Z71

    Excellent video - this helped me accomplish this task within two hours. I took the mounting bracket off and pushed the vent hose through from the other side of gas tank to give me enough room to wiggle off the fitting. Only video out there which addresses the 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 evap vent - as it was the only year made like this. Thanks again.

      I was wondering why I was having trouble finding a video on my 03 Yukon XL. My experience may have been like yours; as in the only year that it was designed like this. I ended up having to buy the entire OEM kit that included the hose.

    Just a short note on this repair. The vent valve has been updated with a modified kit, available from AC Delco or Dorman. It replaces the old box vent control valve with an inline filter/valve assembly, relocating the actual vent higher on the chassis. Seems many will experience a check engine light shortly after changing the old style valve because it allowed dirt to pass through to the canister, clogging it. The correct repair is to replace the canister and the vent valve at the same time.

    I found it difficult to remove the hose with the valve still mounted as there was not much room and also the hose was stiff. Thus making it hard to get enough muscle to pull it off of the valve while also trying to squeeze the tabs with my fingers. Tried to use a screwdriver but fishing blindly and again difficult to get two screwdrivers up in there and then trying to disconnect the hose at the same time. Not easy if one is on their back. And also worried that I might break the connector.
    I decided to unmount the valve. It was easy that way as I got better positioning and was able to squeeze the tabs and also twist and pull the valve off. Also pay attention that you do "need" to push the connection in towards the valve first and then squeeze it before you pull it off.

Is the valve in the no powered state supposed to have the valve open? Once you connect and that connection has power is that what closes the valve? In other words the unpowered state for the valve is open? Thanks again

    I got a full diagnostic from Meineke yesterday and now I’m going through to figure out what I can do myself and what I’m going to have to pay a mechanic to do. This is one of the things, along with the purge valve. They want almost $500 for this. Am I misunderstanding what they’re actually saying I need? The spark plug job is the same price but I already did that myself and it wasn’t easy but I got it done. This looks dead simple compared to that.

    My suburban is having problems cranking after I put gas in it. Would that be the canister purge valve? If so, I typed it in on Autozone with the Part Number and said it doesn’t fit my 2006 Suburban. I found another that says it does.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Evap System should not cause any starting problems. I was suspect something else such as the fuel pump to pump regulator. Or it’s not Seen cam or crank sensor. Start by pulling code to see if there’s anything and as far as a parts go will be different on all the vehicles check with your local park supplier.

    You video is great but I am lost - GMC Sierra 2002 - Went to the back of the tank, nothing. Went to the Front of the tank (toward the engine side) and above a cross member, above the tank, totally inaccessible is what MAY be the valve. I only say that because I see a line and that slide clip that supposedly holds it in place (Like a square with 4 ribs) . There is also what looks like a ground wire to a bolt and a small hose that just goes to space :-) In other words, on mine, NO WAY that could be removed without removing the tank...Just 2 1/2 inches to even see it - .so what am I missing? Am I even in the right place? I am pretty good mechanically and do my own work but this is a GMC nightmare

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Without a bidirectional scan tool you won’t be able to test the whole system. What you can do is take the valve off and apply power and ground from a 12 V battery to the terminals and try to blow air through it. If air blows through it with power and ground applied the valve is bad . You will also hear a click noise when you apply the power and ground.

    How about you guys next time on your video do several different Vehicles because mine's not located in the front or rear. It's located in between the truck bed and the cab and the only way to get it out is by a removing the bed or by dropping the gas tank that information would be helpful. 2000 Silverado

      If that was behind the bed it’s already been relocated previously before.

      Nick GiantYeti this is one of the symptoms for P0442 yes. But I know for sure you would need to test.

    Hmmm, unfortunately I bought the part and just crawled under to replace it and my 2006 Suburban 5.3L looks different underneath, I don't see that part, there is a round canister/filer up under there as well as a large box .... not sure what the deal is now?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven McMullin Chevrolet occasionally update their part and changes things around. I would contact your parts supplier and see if you have the right one it may be modified.

    would this make it hard to fill the tank, it keeps shutting off

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dennis crosby yes if the vent valve is stuck in the closed position or the filter it's plugged it will not allow the air to vent causing the tank to be hard to fill

  • @jknich1800
    @jknich1800 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could a bad EVAP valve cause gas to leak from the filler neck/cap on a 2002 Suburban(engine off and cold with the tank at about 7/8 full)?

    • @macdole99
      @macdole99 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you every find out the problem? mine is doing the same thing

    • @jknich1800
      @jknich1800 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The EVAP canister itself...we removed the canister and cleaned with compressed air, water from a garden hose, then air again. Let it dry overnight and then reinstalled and have had no further problems. Additionally, we blew air through the hose that runs from the canister to the tank and had already replaced the vent valve solenoid. In the final wash though it was a clogged EVAP canister.

      Star Fire Sometimes when your order comes with it I will change it if it does. Also when you take it apart and inspected if it looks in bad shape replace it.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      HappiePappie81 The brown vet out maybe the updated version. I would check with your parts supplier. As far as the canister it’s pretty straightforward you just disconnect a few hoses and a couple bolts and that’s it.

    I appreciate your video, I replaced my canister but was told that it was a good idea to replace the purge vale also, I have a Chevy S10 2001 2.2L and can't seem to find the location of the purge valve, lots of videos on purge vale but none on the S 10 2.2L automatic. Does anyone know where the purge vale is located on this vehicle.

    • @HowtoAutomotive

      Hector Otani No this is not the reason why your car has poor fuel mileage. It will set a check engine light for Evap leaks or vent problems.

    • @HowtoAutomotive

      Hector Otani Code P0894 is a transmission issue with the speed sensors. Possible transmission slipping or one of the sensor is not reading right. To check the P0455 you’ll need to smoke the Evap system for leaks test The Vent and pure Valve. You will need hey scan tool and some test test equipment to do all of this.
