Hello Jonny! I'm pleased to report having a second custom stock fitted to my needs and my F3 Supersport with Manuel Ricardo. The whole experience is splendid and offered a few exchanges on some modifications to my first stock built with them last year. I am absolutely breath taken by their ability to focus on minute details; Really, I wanted the palm swell 12mm longer, the cast at the toe changed 3 mm, the pistol grip more closed, and a slimmer forend. Heavenly results. I feel as if the stock-making team was in my yard. We are 8000km apart. This team is fantastic!
New age of gun fit, i like it, very impressive they got the inner headwork tight without actually having the reciever, gun fit is perceptive person to person- as gun feel is so diferent between people.
Hi Jonny - I feel so pleased for you - when you said you were getting the one click, I had no hesitation about the quality of the workmanship and the artisanal skill, knowledge and experience of Manuel and his team having been over there twice and of course, you have reviewed both of my stocks. I felt a little responsible for encouraging you to try the one click and I am so pleased that you are pleased with the results. Congratulations on the latest addition to the family - love your stock by the way - beautiful wood and the initials are a lovely touch...must catch up over a brew soon and you can tell me all about the experience...take care and stay safe...Gordon...👍👍👍
been waiting for this one..... You confirmed my new project, Also the wood spacer is a piece of class really elevates the whole stock..... (as a left hander this option also means the amount of guns available to buy goes up massively, and the price comes down dramatically)
That was one of the best videos on custom gunstocks and the fitting process I have ever seen ....well done. I was aware Manuel Ricardo and his reputation but did not realise he offer this service and on the face of it would appear 90% /95% perfect. Would definitely go for this next time.
Ive redone my browning bar 1970 belgium with a darker ebony stain and finished it with 3 coats of double boiled linseed and now it has a nice satin finish and i love it. Makes the rifle look really good.
I shoot a Beretta 680 Gold with factory installed adjustable stock. Using a laser light I make minor adjustments each year and it works. Great video, thank you.
See this is how the shooting community can progress in to the future. Yes keeping some old school traditions is absolutely fine, but we need to push things forward if we want to interest new shooters. The work you are putting in on this TH-cam channel is definitely important mate. A lot of people watch these videos, but I think we need to get it out there even more.
@@tgsoutdoors have you tired pushing your content through Reddit? There are multiple shooting pages on there which I’m sure would benefit from seeing these videos. Maybe take a look at what kinds of shorting videos trend/get the most views on TH-cam, and give it your own twist. I can’t remember the TH-cam channel name, but there is an older guy who tests out all sorts of different guns on a little range he has set up with bottles of water, bins etc. For some reason it’s entertaining watching him blow things to bits with a shotgun while still going through the specs. They are just a few ideas off the top of my head, but I’ll throw some more at you when they come to me, or when I see something I think you guys could do.
@@tgsoutdoors a “how it’s made” series would be interesting to watch. Touring different gun manufacturers like Purdey. Super video. Nicely put together. But all credit to Manuel Ricardo. Awesome work and clearly a lot of work went in to working out how to do that remotely. Superb.
In a country like india where not even guns are available, expecting gun stocks and gun fitters are a dream. So having an online experience seems amazing. Looking forward to trying it
Very interesting to hear you say how the gun felt with the new stock. I went out there five years ago to have a stock made for my MK 70. He got the new stock nearly finished but commented about my gun mount not being consistent , but as you said it is like a new gun, the new stock shape changes the handling so much and it took a lot of cartridges to get used to, even though the gun fitted me perfectly. Manuel Ricardo is a master at what he does. No question .
Very interesting. Thank you for being the lab rate and testing this process. I have been very curious able this, but have been brave enough to take action. You have giving me more to think about.
That is an interesting notion for a newbie to the sport. Buy say an SP1 as a first gun. Well made mechanically, reliable and robust. When you are consistent in gun mount replace the plain wood with a better grade custom made MR stock and fore end. Certainly an interesting alternative to "upgrading" to a better gun. Which, while it looks better will still not be fitted to you and will likely not perform any better. You are definitely on to something here JC.
lively barrels on a nice gun isn't the worst thing in the world, just takes getting used to :) Looks like Manuel Ricardo has figured it out pretty much on the money, the only "imperfect" things about that stock could be fixed with a file and refinished! That coach seems cool!
Since you didn't buy the forend with your stock, do you think that it could possibly have helped with the balance for the gun? Where in your case it would have been difficult for them to "match" the balance of your original gun. As you know adjustable comb and all that hardware, adds weight to the back making your gun more lively. Really enjoyed the video and thank you for taking a punt getting it done.👍
Took my wife on holiday to meet Manuel ,had 2 stocks and a fore end made for my 2 favourite guns both shoot great and I feel very special……..great workman ship in the factory and you actually shoot the guns at the clay ground where the factory is …..how ever as a judge at a clay ground said …..great wood but it’s not magic wood you’ve still got to point and shoot the clays lol ………. My reply was yes but the wood does look good 😊
I see what you did there, took your wife on holiday. What did Jonny say? It was like bringing your wife in for plastic surgery. She must have great sense of humour.
Your shooting teacher is straight from a Guy Ritchie movie, ain't he? ;) He certainly sounds like one. Awesome stock, btw. I'm happy when my tailored clothes from the net meeting 90%, but a stock? I'm impressed.
What a beautiful stock, congratulations! Now get the front grip, as long as the wood is still available, ha ha. And get the new gun in silver... I'd bet you could make it look like a 30.000 Krieghoff or better ;-)
I saw this and thought go for it! I have to say the process is relatively pain free but communications with Manuel R can be a bit frustrating as they use a combination of email & whats app and I'm not sure if its the same person responding to each! Having said that all the dimensions, photos and videos are now done and I'm waiting my manufacturing slot and that's when I got a surprise, I can't expect my stock before April 2022, so clearly they are busier than when this video was made. Also its worth noting that the cost is significantly more than suggested in the video, as the grade of wood, adjustable comb and pistol (glove) grip all add to the base price. If this works and I hope it does I will have an TSK adjustable stock for sale.
You look so much better mounting your gun now, it's uncanny. But it makes me realize you used to look a bit maybe awkward in hindsight (only a little, don't mean to be offensive). Great video, thanks.
I agree, I look at old pictures of me ans my gun and I look way more comfortable. Times change, hopefully this stock will help my shooting a little, even though the Miroku is going to be taking a back seat shortly!
Being 6ft 7 my self and not getting on with 90% of guns I’m tempted to buy a higher quality second hand gun probably a Invictus 1 and have something like this done eventually my local shop have been encouraging me to go this route what would a Manuel Ricardo stock start at
Have you tried British guns from the early 20th century? Of course, you will likely need a pad to increase the length of pull; but, otherwise the fit might be good.
Grade1 €500 +€200 for adjustable. Grade 4 wood adjustable cost me €1200 all in. At 6ft7 your never going to find a gun off the rack that comes close to fitting you
Nice bit of wood that. What height are you out of interest? I'm 6"3 and after a first gun and am struggling to find any that feel long enpugh. Whether I am moutjing them correctly is another matter but still, if it doesnt feel right, it probably isnt. Any suggestions for some off the shelf sub £1000 guns that are better suited to people over 6 feet? Ata superspoirt is currently top of the list. The webley 1000 series is another I like after seeing your review here, but they dont come with an adjustable comb.
I've been waiting with bated breath for this video and after listening to you chat about fit on TBG I'm so glad to hear it's good. This brings a new question. Buy a base gun eg silver pig, then get this done or spend the same money on something like a 690 or 692? Rinse and repeat for 525, 725.
Depends on what shape you are and how far out a standard stock from either manufacturer is. He former is a better idea in my opinion, cheap gun with custom stock.
@@tgsoutdoors sorry was meant to be the same for browning range as the Beretta. I think it opens up a very different market for those getting into the sport and what options it presents. Rather than buying then buying again, buy once and modify. Brings into the question is the world in need of a universal balance system?
Thanks for the great Video , I wasn’t aware of this process . I just bought a new Silver Pigeon last week and may look into it . I could also stand to use a Lesson if I knew where one was available. Keep up the great Videos !
I was in contact with DR in August (2 weeks ago) regarding a custom stock for my trap gun and then suddenly no reply. Does anyone know if they are still in business?
In the conclusion you mentioned you would prefer a 32” multi choke to match the weight of the new stock due to it being so large. What’s your height? I’m 6’2” and happen to have a 32” multi choke miroku mk38 which is all factory so it strikes me that a stock like this might be perfect for me 🤔
Great video Jonny. Is there any reason in particular you didn’t opt for a glove grip? Are they more suited to trap shooters? Don’t like the look of them?
A very good video and review. It's an interesting one, would you use the new donor action and barrels for game shooting? In the video you stated it was for sporting clays? I shoot clays to practice my mount and keep some sort of form. So that when the game season comes round I am hitting the ground running. Would this sort of stock suit both??
Do you think they'd ship to the States? I have a Browning Cynergy Sporting, but that weird recoil pad is decently ugly and I could use more weight in the stock.
I used a roll of nickels (wrapped in packing tape) in my Cynergy CX, which has a different stock than yours, but it adds a nice weight to the gun. Can yours do the same?
Johnny, remove the butt pad from a Beretta 686 Field. Look at the cavity in the stock. Then remove the butt pad from a 686 Sporting and look at the single hole for the stock bolt. Does that give you any ideas? Fact is that if you do some conservative wood removal from the center of that Ricardo stock you can probably achieve a balance that matches the balance of the stock you made for the Moruku all those years ago. Actually you could probably send both stocks to Recardo and he could re-balance that new stock to achieve an identical balance to your old stock. Yeah, it will cost a bit to do this additional work but I'll bet you a US Nickle that it will cost less than a new shotgun for that stock and you'll have your beloved Moruku fitted with a stock that will work for many years to come and is adjustable to adapt changes that happen as you age. Hot tip on that note, start doing Yoga and those changes will be greatly reduced.
I had contemplated doing just that but two things sprung to mind: Just because it handles differently doesn’t mean it’s bad and as ES says, ‘accept that there will be a bit of a transition period’ I could do with a steel proofed, multi-Choke gun ongoing anyway. Seemed like a good enough reason to build a new gun
@@tgsoutdoors Well, I can understand that. Going to take a drive Friday to pick up a 687 Silver Pigeon III 28/410 set. Already have tubes for my 12 gage 686 but shoot the 410 terribly and if feels like I'm swinging a telephone pole. The 28 gage isn't too bad because those tubes do have a much larger hole in them but I figure why not a combo. It's too bad that Skeet isn't as popular as it once was. Because what I would really like to have is a 687 SPIII 4 barrel set.
Fist time I shot a shotgun at a club i hit 28 out of forty using the club gun and they asked my sister which gun club I was from! Can this make a real difference?
Johnny: Did you have a choice of getting a slimmer design? If yes, and you could do it over, would you get a slimmer one? I tend to do better with my slimmer stocked guns, but I hadn't thought about it much until seeing your video. Good job.
I’m sure if had been more fussy, MR would have accommodated the fuss. I just wanted to see what they would do for your average, less experienced customer and I think they did a great job.
@@tgsoutdoors Thanks. Don't get me wrong, the MR stock is beautiful, but going from a thin to thick stock was quite a change (beyond just the balance). I presume MR would do just as great a job on a thinner one (though I am not sure how well thin stocks accommodate the adjustable combs). I tune in every night!
@@tgsoutdoors There are several types and processes. Fascinating and unique and defining of many different makers. And YOU'RE just the man to do it!! If you don't, no one will! And wood finishes! Go, TGS Outdoors!!
It’s a very good alternative. As I said in my conclusion - a visit in person is best, getting measured for length, cast and drop etc in Person and having those measurements sent along with the one click is probably wisest. However this process is 90% perfect so if an in person gun fit isn’t an option then it is a fantastic alternative
Do you think the process would work better if he had "approved" people in the UK to take the measurements beforehand as they'll be able to convey the information much for effectively Vs it being done at home?
I think MR stocks are not very popular with sporting shooters, but nearly everyone in the trap ( especially OT) world shoots a MR stock, they ARE simply amazing
An interesting video but the process has no appeal for me. There’s a lot that can be done on the internet but for me - for gun fit - it is not the preferred option. I may be out of step and it is just my opinion.
No offence meant, but it's almost like you are now actually focusing on learning to clay shoot with consistency as an actual sport and skill...wish you well and I have no doubt working with Ed will help you down that road. No more game shooting with a rolling shoulder movement! 😁
I know it Sounds mad but I fancy one for my wingmaster there’s no real way of casting the stock as they are all straight and bolted. It smashed my face to bits last time out, wife thort I’d been punched 😂

How about a new front handle wood to match
How much did the stock cost you?
900 euros
Great video keep it going
Do you have a video on different metal finishes?
I am afraid not
@@tgsoutdoors There are several types and processes. Fascinating and unique and defining of many different makers. And YOU'RE just the man to do it!! If you don't, no one will! And wood finishes! Go, TGS Outdoors!!
hi Jonny, great review once again. do you think this is a genuine alternative to getting a stock made by visiting a stock maker? thanks. Brian Dillon
This is available as an option anyway, go and have a gun fit, have your measurements done and send them to be used alongside his process.
wow great , i love it
A+ video
JC, dat you?
Caught out
No forearm?
Ear Protection: What kind/brand is that?
Realize that as I write this, can you give a cost estimate?
I think MR stocks are not very popular with sporting shooters, but nearly everyone in the trap ( especially OT) world shoots a MR stock, they ARE simply amazing
Most sporting shooters don’t really care about getting better like trap discipline shooters do, it is a discipline mostly shot for pleasure
Amazingly Beautiful .

"Fill formed out"?
An interesting video but the process has no appeal for me. There’s a lot that can be done on the internet but for me - for gun fit - it is not the preferred option. I may be out of step and it is just my opinion.
Like taking the wife for plastic surgery.lol
A message to Johnathan very sad news my good Friend and hunting partner Roy Banks has passed away he will be missed by many especially me
Extremely saddened by this news Nigel. Roy was a great man, who knew how to have fun and always had time for a chat and a laugh.
Do you think a custom stock is overrated ? Why??
Over rated - only if your thinking it’s going to fix your faults.
No offence meant, but it's almost like you are now actually focusing on learning to clay shoot with consistency as an actual sport and skill...wish you well and I have no doubt working with Ed will help you down that road. No more game shooting with a rolling shoulder movement! 😁
Amazing you didn’t need to do any work to fit it to the metal properly.
That shocked me, but it was an amazing inlet job
I know it Sounds mad but I fancy one for my wingmaster there’s no real way of casting the stock as they are all straight and bolted. It smashed my face to bits last time out, wife thort I’d been punched 😂
you not only changed face you become more estupido jajajaja
