"Hand built in 1910 by guys who knew what they were doing". That's why Simon is a legend!. He is surrounded by guns worth megga money yet he appreciates, gives time and owns guns of lesser value for what they are. To me these guns are one offs and this is more valuable than any day modern over and under, off the shelf gun.

Brilliant video, I had a prediction of what was going to be shown and I was spot on. He's mentioned the laminate before, possibly in the 'The day I fell in love with a SxS' at the clay ground, can't remember? You can see his eyes going over every single millimetre of those Scottish hammer guns as if it's the first he's seeing them.

Really enjoy the videos where Simon presents topics on vintage sxs shotguns! Over here we’re fortunate to have more freedom with firearm collecting. However, you are fortunate to have such an amazing selection of reasonably priced vintage guns to choose from. Good SxS’s are scarce here, and when found are valued higher, making them more difficult to collect.

Thank you so much Simon and Johnny. Here’s why; I had no idea that Hardy brothers originally made Shotguns. Being an avid fisherman and owning several of their reels for trout fishing. It was very impressive that they at one Time made Shotguns. It was rather serendipitous that they’re just happened to be a cased Hardy Brothers box lock on Holts! Scooped it up for a song! Well maybe two songs! It would be more interesting if it’s the very same gun and case. It’s going to enjoy its new home in Texas. Again, thank you very very much Simon and Johnny.
    Best,
    Godfrey

I purchased a very beautiful, if plain, T.Wild SxS from Holts in their Sealed bid auction In March.
A busy day when I picked it up, so was served by Mr Reinhold himself. Made me and my daughter extremely welcome, put the gun together, gave it a once over.
He didn’t have to, but he did.
We talked off boxlocks and Elk. I came away feeling that I’d been in the presence of true gent.
Holts provided a superb service and I cannot recommend them higher then that.

Great watch.Brings home a lack of knowledge in my early days with some guns which passed through my hands and I let go only to regret as time passed. My first real gun as a teenager was a Damascus Barrelled under lever hammer gun which ended up on a relatives wall. A couple of Scottish SXS.A round action Dixon 30'' damascus barrelled beauty which belonged to one of my closest friends and an Alex Martin ''Grouse Gun''.I could have bought both these guns but opted for the O/U B25 Brownings path.Much later I really fancied a SXS after shooting a couple in the field and thoroughly enjoying the experience.

I'm in love with shooting and have been since I started 5 years ago. Please have a go with the Marlin Goose Gun. I bought one for a laugh and it brings me so much joy and fun. I absolutely smash clays with them and have won quite a few sporting competitions using it. There is something brilliant about the challenge of using a bolt action especially on sim pairs. The balance and handling of this oddity of a gun is superb, not to mention you can get one with a fixed mag for peanuts (still load the second cartridge from the breach). I challenge you and Ed to have a shoot with one. Its what shooting is all about for me and I cant help but smile using 'The Goose" and so does everyone who watches me shoot it. Its such an odd gun that it brings a crowd every time I use it!

Sympathetic restoration is THE perfect term for what many of these firearms deserve. I've REALLY come to the point where if there's a firearm that's obviously got a story I don't want to erase that to make an old firearm look new. There are more than enough outstanding new firearms to be had.
My latest is a 1937 Superposed or as you on your side of the pond call them B-25 factory Trap model with a non standard dimension stock and options that the original owner wanted. I shoot it better than I have a right to and a few of my friends were saying that I should restore it. I told them that I wasn't going to do that because it was a gun that has a story and I want to add to that story. I do need to send it out in order to get the loose ribs taken care of and also the locking bolt needs to be built up. That being said the thing locks up tight and is fun as heck on the clays range...ESPECIALLY on long presentations where the tight chokes come into their own.
