  • Hello I am Suzanne, I am a small scale flower farmer and florist located in Devon in the Uk zone 8B.
    I grow on a small cut flower plot of 16 square metres, and also have a cottage style garden.
    I grow my flowers to sell predominantly as pre ordered retail bouquets and also provide florals for small events.
    I grow without the use of chemicals, and try to garden in away that benefits nature.
    My channel is very casual and low tech with all filming and editing being done by myself, content is a real mix of both gardening, cut flower production and floristry.
    In this video I review the cut flowers I have been growing for the first time this year.
    If you would like to support my channel and help me fund my camera and microphone for filming you can now buy me a coffee by following this link www.buymeacoff.... Thank you 🌸

    Enjoyed coming across this video, thankyou. As for marigolds... The only one I now grow is called Kees Orange. A nice tall stemmed bright orange. And even brighter in dried bouquets. Never let's me down! Last year tried a cream colour new on the market. Terrible! Pulled it all out. That's how we learn 🤪

      Oh, wow, I may give that one a go, as I do like to dry, thanks for the advice 🌸

    I had the same issue as you with trying godetia for the first time this year - I think I planted too late and then pinched and they're all very short. Strangely, I have some that came up as volunteers in my vegetable garden (in a few different shades of pinks), along with both bird's-eye gilia and blue thimble gilia! No idea where they came from, but I'm definitely going to try to save some seeds to grow them in the cutting garden next year.

      Yes, I did exactly the same with the godetia, it’s all a learning experience, hopefully I will get it right next year. I love self seeded surprises 😊happy growing 🌸

    Would love to know how you dry your astilbe when you do it.

      Nothing technical, I hang it upside down in my dark shed, I will show all the bits I have drying in a video at some point 🌸

    Your mystery-plant looks like Anthriscus cerefolium.

      Yes I definitely think it’s an umbellifer, loooking forward to finding out which one 😊🌸

    Agree Crown Daisy was easy to grow, I was disappointed as a cut flower though. I’m adding Ammobium next spring. I also dry a lot and favour flowers that can be fresh or dried. Thanks for your garden tour.

      The ammobium, was very easy, I don’t think you will be disappointed. Happy growing 🌸

    Could your mystery seedlings be bleeding heart? I tried honeywort from seed this year and had good results from winter sowing in juice bottles. I sort of neglected the seedlings once I transplanted them into big flowerpots with other flowers and usually just got one stringy stem with a tiny pink or purple flower. Are you supposed to pinch honeywort when they're little seedlings? I don't usually have enough flowers in my small garden to pick for putting in a vase, I just like to have blooms outside and I love purple so will try them again next year. I was bad about tying up the sweet peas but finally got one whole flower that I noticed today. Woo hoo! I'm gonna try them again, from seed again. With our ridiculously hot weather, they will probably die off soon anyway.

      Oh, yes I see what you mean about the bleeding heart foliage, but it’s doubtful, as I have never had one in my car, the mystery plants germinated in the carpet, as my car is very damp. Cerinthe, will not thrive in a pot, they will only get really big in the ground, yes I do pinch mine. Toadflax will grow well in pots, and you can get purple, also phlox is good in containers. Good luck with your sweet peas, no hot weather here.🌸

      @@stemsbysuzanne Thanks for the tips! I'm in hot, humid Virginia zone 7a and it has been too hot to go outside in the daytime for over a week. It's unusual to be this hot, even for us. Looking forward to more normal summer temps soon.🐞🥀

    How do you condition the verbascum? They are gorgeous, but last only 2 days in my vase.

    • @stemsbysuzanne
      @stemsbysuzanne  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It doesn’t have a great vase life, so I have not been putting it in retail bouquets, but it’s great as an event flower especially due to its colour, so I have been putting it in my diy flower buckets. I have not tried searing it, but I might try that and see if I can make it worthy of a bouquet.🌸

      That is what I am thinking, I traveled lots of dry flower products in my car, and that was definitely one of them, hopefully it will not be to long before we find out 😊

    I was very disappointed with the Chinese forget me Nots. I grew both the blue and the pink for the first time this year. They are beautiful, but they do drop their petals. I used a hydrator and didn’t find that they wilted but they did drop petals. I grow crackerjack marigolds and they are very tall. I know they are a very common type of Marigold but you will have your stem length.

    • @priscillaschmidt1937

      I agree with crackerjack marigolds...nice and tall, big flowers...pink saponaria is weak stemmed but replaces the pink forget me nots for me...I’m zone 2, Beaverlodge AB , canada

    • @stemsbysuzanne
      @stemsbysuzanne  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is so interesting, as mine are supposed to be crackerjack, maybe they will get taller as the season progresses. It is such a shame about the forget me nots, as they are so pretty 🌸

    • @janepeters5732
      @janepeters5732 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes give your crackerjack time. To be honest they should get huge! Maybe remove those early blossoms.
