Pineland Forest Nursery

Established in 1953, Pineland Forest Nursery, located in Hadashville, Manitoba, produces high quality seedlings for silvicultural plantings in central Canada and the northern United States as well as seed extraction and testing services.
The nursery has installed an 8.5 Million BTU Blue Flame Stoker Biomass Boiler. This boiler provides the heating requirements for a 0.7 ha (1.7 ac) Gutter Connected Greenhouse. Through utilization of renewable bio-fuels such as waste nursery material from the seed processing plant, waste material from a local peat moss processing facility and salvage material from a forest fire south of the nursery, the greenhouse has been able to realize more than $100,000 of natural gas savings while greatly reducing GHG emissions following the installation of the highly efficient boiler system. Pineland has a keen interest in operating their business financially and environmentally sustainably and they believe this can be accomplished by collaboration and support of businesses in the Manitoba bioproducts industry.

About a year ago, our Conservative government for the Province of Manitoba had a big sale and sold off the Pineland Nursery to private sector as they do not like the province supporting trees being started by the public sector. The Premier felt it was better to buy the seedling from the private sector and from what I understand the new owners have replaced the seedling with cannabis plants. Just another example of them selling off services for the people of Manitoba
