I just moved to Helsinki to work as Au Pair (international nanny) if your younger (under 30 yo) I highly suggest doing it, it is an "easy" way to try the life in Finland, people are super nice, and although you don't make much money from Au Pair, the host family basically pays for everything so you can easily spend the rest of your money traveling through europe or even better, through beautiful Finland!

Hei Rachel ! Ihana nähdä sinua ! Kiitos videosta ja toivotan että sinä ja perheesi pysyy terveenä ! Uskon että ensi vuosi on parempi ! All the best ! Stay safe !
I have begun to look forward to your videos about your Finnish experience. I see parallels experiences between you and my daughter (somewhat loosely). My daughter met a Finn online (weird, I know, and totally unexpected from a parent’s view). She and he bonded through politics, strangely enough too. As sons-in-law go, I like and respect him. He is very smart and he seems to be taking good care of my daughter and their four children very well. I did get to witness my son-in-law become a citizen of the United States so that was special. My daughter is best described as a Germanophile. She did an exchange student stint in a small town in what was Eastern Germany. After graduating high school and college she went back to Germany for another year of study. Her German, according to native speakers I have talked to declare her German excellent. So naturally, I thought she would marry some German she met. So the Finnish connection completely threw me. The children are connecting with their Finnish heritage while living in Finland. And my daughter is learning a very difficult language and a much different culture. The Finnish language is a bit of a challenge (her words not mine) but I expect she will become nearly as fluent as she is in German and English.
My father has a Portuguese passport. If I go to Finland through my father and get permission to stay as a dependent. Will I have the opportunity to study as well as work?

@@WildwoodVagabond Below's an interesting treatise on how wearing shoes in homes is viewed around the world. The practice of removing shoes seems largely religious-based. My being an atheist, I live according to equity and logic - not superstition or tradition. Further, my heritage is German and Italian. Germans aren't strict about no-shoes-in-the-house and Italians don't do it or require it at all. In the U.S. where I live, it's mostly only coastal immigrant populations that require it - inland states where I'm from don't. Just philosophically, requiring guests to remove shoes is wrong. Guests should be made to feel safe, welcome, honored, and appreciated to be in your home. After all, they have given up the safety and comfort of their own homes to be in yours. They're imparting the joy of their company to you and your family. They should accordingly be encouraged to continue to do so - to "make themselves at home" - not discouraged. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tradition_of_removing_shoes_in_the_home_and_houses_of_worship
It’s horrible in my opinion. Most people can’t afford the high health insurance premiums nor the cost of prescription drugs without insurance. Even if you have health insurance it isn’t guaranteed that the insurance company will pay for the services you receive. They have a lot of fine print and loopholes to go through. I worked in the medical field and left it because of the greed and dishonesty. It is a for profit industry which is wrong in my opinion. I could go on for days about it. I have wanted to do a video comparing finnish and american healthcare but it gets super complicated. I still plan on doing one some day though. It just takes a lot of time and research. But yeah, I am not a fan. I personally do not have health insurance and thankfully I have been very healthy. Lumilapio!
@@WildwoodVagabond I watched a documentary about American health care a couple of months ago. Yes I can do that! 🤗 Usually the clips that are shown are short, so maybe there is a time limit, so you could show short clips. But I don’t know. Do you want latest Finnish chart hits or just very popular Finnish songs?
If you haven't already, you should do a reaction to Ievan Polkka! Also, here's a music video by a lesser known band that have a modern take on a more traditional sound; translated lyrics provided: th-cam.com/video/GHJvtETEpw4/w-d-xo.html

Tommi Hintsala Haha 😄 thanks for subscribing! I actually denounced christianity too. That sounds intense but I just mean that I no longer consider myself christian. Some good came out of that period of my life but I’m glad to have moved on. Take care! Love from Texas ✌🏼❤️
Also, I really hope you vote. I don't like the way the U.S. is going now and the right wing naziboys in Finland are getting way too much traction with that turd of a human being being in power.
Tommi Hintsala I feel the same! I try not to judge people based on what they believe. Everyone is just trying to find their way through life. Yes I am definitely voting and my vote is against the turd. He is so dangerous in many ways.
@@WildwoodVagabond There's much I don't like about Trump, but I most appreciate his firm position against immigration. That is, that's undermining our laws, language, freedom, environment, quality of life, and civil rights. Feeling guilty now? Good. Hopefully it will start a domino effect that effects changes that keep incompetent politicians like Biden and to some extent, Trump from even running for office.
stay sfe and take care... You could make YT vid about our bad habbits - we drink, well a mutch but yet we are not violent to those who we met just hug 'em---
That whole excommunication thing sounds awfully lot like the JW practice, whom, like the Mormons, are not Christians. Regardless, that sucks. Glad to hear all worked out. Anyway, we're happy to welcome you back to Finland! (Although, I don't live there right now.)
Agimus78 I think that mormans and jehovah witness deviate from traditional “Christian” doctrine and belief, so most believers outside of those churches don’t consider them christians. Those two organizations are mostly seen as cults(at least a here in the US), although it is technically a Christian denomination. It’s so ridiculous there are over 10,000 “Christian” denominations 🤯
@Agimus78 If I said I was a member of Mensa, yet they'd never even heard of me, that would not a member of me make. JW are denouncing the core dogma of Christendom, the Holy Trinity, and Mormons have lifted a fanfic book above in status the scripture of Christianity. They also believe people can *become* god through virtue. That is considered wildly heretic by Christians. There's this whole thing called ecumenism, in which the Christian denominations recognise each other. None of them recognise either one. As someone without religion, I don't care either way - but as an educator, I firmly believe definitions matter.
Yeah all religions are cults, that is different from main stream. So Christianity started as a cult too. As do all religions. I'm an atheist, so I'm alright with it.
The amount of red tape to get through to move to Finland is INSURMOUNTABLE, and I don't suggest anyone even attempt it. You'll never be able to move there.
Amount of red tape (which is just coming, not valid yet). And it's to f.e US citizen is more harder,... Sorry if have you no ability to learn our laws, new country, new regulations and language.
I think one don't need church if want's to believe in something. There is some much violence in history that was made in the name of god(s). I think who or whatever planned or did this whole is not pleased if one kills and says it was "will of god".
Finland is a terrible place for communicative social people who DO NOT drink or do drugs and don't F*CK before they really get to know someone. Finland is just a nightmare. Especially for artists, and people who don't speak fluent Finnish and can't get job in their sector. BUT if you are working in IT sector or work in an international place of your kind- and if you are ambiverted or introverted, not so much into talking with people, unless you you drink or take drugs and then jump into bed with people before you get to know them- you will have the time of your life. Study-wise-- schools are mainly theory based so they are very very very boring and all is based on homework really. Health wise- it's horrid- and mental health wise it' s a tragedy and a huge national problem here which is never sorted with any behavioral therapy or support groups- but mainly with pushing prescribing drugs- or worsened depression cured at homewith illegal drugs- so the the suicides are through the roof. No joke. I know a lot of people here- and in the last 4 years, 6 people I'd met or wored with- including one friend - killed themselves. Why you may think-well, because Finns don't open up and don't talk to anyone, neither the psychologists have any social skills or any warmth what so ever and just can't help people organically. This is very sad. And alarming. I've been here almost 12 years. Currently helping foreign people with depression in FI, but honestly- I can't wait to move out! The only nice thing about here is truly delicious coffee, variety of diet variations and GF products & most of all - peaceful nature, but then, the nature is beautiful everywhere around the world.
In 2015 more than 30 000 asylum seekers came to Finland from Sweden and I bet that most of them got free housing and all the benefits. Funny thing is that those asylum seekers had traveled here through several safe countries, so they had no right to seek asylum here.

Lumilapio! Not related to video but I would like to hear about the American health care system 🤔 what you think about it
It’s horrible in my opinion.
I was shocked that for example some people have to go to Canada to buy insulin because you save thousands of dollars by doing that.
So it's at least partially true as we say in Finland: it's like winning of lottery if you born in Finland 😄
This topic would be very interesting if you will do video about it 👍🏻

Yeyy, another great video! 😘 Have you done a reacting to new finnish music videos yet? Those types of videos seem to be pretty popular and it would be nice to know how do you feel about finnish music. 😅😇
Great suggestion! Someone requested I react to Nightwish. I plan to do that when I figure out how to do it without getting a copyright strike on my video. I mean obviously it can be done Bc others do it. I just need to figure out how. Can you send me links to any Finnish music I should react to? Thanks Aino 🥰 have a great weekend
Or names of bands
Yes I can do that! 🤗 Usually the clips that are shown are short, so maybe there is a time limit, so you could show short clips. But I don’t know. Do you want latest Finnish chart hits or just very popular Finnish songs?
@@WildwoodVagabond Nightwish does´nt usually copyright song reactions, so it´s safe.
If you haven't already, you should do a reaction to Ievan Polkka!

I love that you've left the church/cult you were in. I'll subscribe for the first time ever just for that. (You're free to join some other cult or church, it just made me happy you got out of one.)

That whole excommunication thing sounds awfully lot like the JW practice, whom, like the Mormons, are not Christians. Regardless, that sucks. Glad to hear all worked out.
Anyway, we're happy to welcome you back to Finland! (Although, I don't live there right now.)
Agimus78
I think that mormans and jehovah witness deviate from traditional “Christian” doctrine and belief, so most believers outside of those churches don’t consider them christians. Those two organizations are mostly seen as cults(at least a here in the US), although it is technically a Christian denomination. It’s so ridiculous there are over 10,000 “Christian” denominations 🤯
Yes, my experience with that church was very cult like and I’m so so grateful to have realized it and gotten away from that!
Thank you! Take care ❤️

Me living in Finland: How can i move to finland?
Move first to, say, Sweden or Estonia. Then you can move (back) to Finland.
Oon kissa btw
57.3% income tax.

One becomes a refugee when asylum is given. Refugee status is checked every year. Most lose their refugee status at some point, so it's not like they will all stay in the country until their death!
There are residence permits for different durations.
