It was so perfectly raw, I think it’s half improvised, like they both had targets to get through. Points to bring up, but I’d say 50% improv, 50 scripted?
In these scenes we can see the great love that Ed has for Stede and that's a healthy love. Ed is at his worst moment, he is really furious with Stede and yet he is unable to push him away, hurt him physically or ridicule him in front of other people. Yes, Ed has outbursts, like when he hits the wall with the chair, but he is a murderer, he threw Lucius into the sea and cut off several of Izzy's fingers. With Stede is different, he just wants to protect Stede and see him happy. He took the blame for Nigel's death just so the English wouldn't execute Stede. In front of Stede he can only roll his eyes and say sarcastic comments. The love he feels for Stede makes him a better person.
Bitter divorcee Ed was one of my favorite eras, despite how short-lived it was
Ed making every effort to not look at Stede bc he knows that the moment he does, his act of not caring disappears never fails to make me squeal
