Given the way this show already rejects realism (characters just finding each other at sea with a rowing boat etc) I fully expect Lucius to still be alive next season
Actually I believe this show is realistic in a strange way. Like you said, that whole "10 minutes in a wowing boat and I can get anywhere just assuming my boat is still there, assuming I'd know how to find that "there" being STEDE BONNET" is quite a bit irrealistic, but on the other hand the way they treat the characters in my opinion is very realistic: injuries don't magically disappear from scene to scene, even dumb characters aren't simply comic relief, behaviours and feelings are consistent and sometimes in the first episodes I actually felt bad for characters going through bad things because I emphasized with them...!
All of which is to say, they wouldn't have killed such a fantastic character LIKE THAT. Come on.

@@FlusteredBushStudios This is not unrealistic from what I understand, A lot of pirates were gay. A bunch of men together at sea with no women? yeah. its the same with nuns. The catholic church knew something was up, but they couldn't figure out how two women could have sex together to outright ban it so they ended up banning "special friendships" between two people. but as you can imagine, it went ignored.
About the realism, I think they'll go with mermaids next season!
@@FlusteredBushStudios tbf that is actually pretty realistic - when JC says "anything goes at sea" in episode 7 he's referring to the fact that homosexual relationships (and behavior) was totally fine on a ship (encouraged even bc ooOOoo women are evil!) but also they didn't have to follow the confines of hetero society

I remember in what few acting gigs I took in high school, I had a bad habit of having over the top reactions as a bit part when other characters were having dialogue.
Thought it was a bad habit at the time, but really I think it's something that should happen more often if OFMD has anything to say about it.

"THAT'S A BITCHY QUESTION" - Lucius Spriggs
Okay so this might make ZERO sense and feels a bit like an essay, but the reason why I feel like they can't just kill off Lucius IS Ed and Stede. Lucius from the beginning is both of their confidantes. He bring them together and shows them both that they love each other. Ed throwing Lucius overboard kind of acted as one of the final straws between Ed and Stede's relationship breakdown as Lucius acts as a form of communication between them (He is the reader and writer of the crew "double threat"). If Ed and Stede do end up together again (Which only seems like a natural pipeline for the story), then Lucius most likely needs to be there to be the communicator again. The only thing that may happen though is that the writers think it's a better idea to finally see Ed and Stede figuring their relationship out for themselves instead of having Lucius there to babysit them and their relationship. It should also be said as well that as soon as Ed and Stede were separated from Lucius at the military training base thing, THAT was when their relationship took a turn for the worst as Stede no longer had Lucius there to talk to and get his feeling out and that manifested into Stede leaving Ed on the beach. He didn't "Talk it through as a crew" because Lucius was no longer there. So, thinking about it now it could go either way, BUT, we won't be sure because according to all of TV ever no body means no death so far. Its schrodinger's Lucius.
that's a great theory! reading it made me think of another outcome - maybe instead of just not being there to help them communicate (so that they can figure it out for themselves), he will start antagonizing Ed (reasonably - he pushed him off the ship) and transform from being the communicator to being the active opponent of their relationship, making the reconciliation even harder? considering that the crew will probably be on Lucius' side, having been abandoned/hurt by Ed, it will make a great conflict for the next season - Stede will be torn between his crew and Ed, they will all have to learn to trust each other again (and they will, of course, succeed and live happily ever after, because that's the only sensible outcome :""""") )
i also think that throwing him overboard might be a good way to introduce some new characters - he will probably get rescued by some people (i've seen a fan theory about some nice lesbian pirates involved - one can dream haha)... and so the story develops. i'm really excited to see how it turns out, there are so many interesting possibilities!
that being said, i'm 99,999999% sure that Lucius is alive - as somebody said in this video's comment section, it was too brief and comedic (the flying shoe) to really mean that Lucius is dead. he was too important of a character to die like this.

I absolutely adore the idea of Lucius becoming a barrier between them and hindering their relationship. That contrast would be incredible and I whole heartedly agree that the crew would be 100% behind Lucius in that argument. I also agree with the idea of Lucius' supposed 'death' being too comedic for it to be the true death of an integral character. But I'm still worried for him lol.

Nathan Foad does a great job of being in character any time he's on screen, no matter what. Even in the bit with Spanish Jackie, he's so clearly On It once he realizes she has Jim's knife.
