@@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure I have my unit on the way for Sunday, making the move away from commercial cloud services, you're video clinched my choice, thanks again.
If you were to take a video on your phone then can you "share" a link via text message to a 3rd party and can that person STREAM / VIEW the video without downloading? In essence it's like taking a video and it uploads to Google Photo's OR TH-cam. You can then share that unlisted link to people and they can "stream" said video?
Is it still showing the Z: drive in the 16TB JBOD configuration? I just bought one myself.. 8TB but like you said WD has the most cost effective backup \ NAS device.
It is and is not. Here's what I mean. I still can see a "Y" and a "Z" drive. The "Z" is the actual drive. Now though, instead of the "Y" looking like it is a mirror of the "Z", the "Y" now has a question mark on the icon and when you click it once or even double click nothing happens. It looks like I can now remove the "Y" drive lettering and it won't affect anything. I also noticed that changes made on the WD website to manage the settings on the drive take a minute sometimes to update to the Windows Explorer view of the drive, but it does end up syncing.
Sorry, I didn’t see your comment. Yes, it came with the drives based on the capacity you order. It will come split with 2 drives and to get the max capacity you have to unpair them, basically not have a back up of your back up.
The EX2 is more of a traditional NAS. It uses the "MyCloud" platform from WD but requires a bit more tweaking to setup and allow user access via the cloud. The drive is accessed through your computer network and you have to also make sure you have given the right permissions to shared media folders; etc. You also manually map the drive. The version I have is a more user friendly version. Because of that it lacks those manual set up details. Some people like having all those settings available even if they don't use them. I opted to go with the user friendly one since I wanted a really easy setup and I have non-tech users that I granted access to the drive via their own desktops as well. I can't find it in my notes but I was pretty sure they both use the WD Red drives in each. My unit can back itself up with the dual drive option but I opt to just have double the space.
@@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure lol you had me at "tweaking". I've had the single drive My Home Cloud for a couple days, good device but I want the ability to set user drive space quotas and such so it's going back. The EX2 Ultra looks like my bag with it's extra processing umph, RAID setup and ability to set user parameters. Thanks again.
Hello greetings from Spain, I liked it a lot but imagine that here it costs € 822 the same as you paid only € 499 if I see any offer like that, maybe I'll think about it, I would also like to see what this product is was up to date and has USB-C
Thank you for watching ang thank you for the comment! I must admit, the drive mapping on windows only works if you have the app installed on your windows PC. While it makes it very easy to set up this cloud based drive versus the more technical traditional way, it does sometimes log me out and makes the drive disappear. I confirmed that the USB ports on the back are for uploading content from a flash drive only and not connecting to a PC at all.
Thanks for watching. So sorry for the delayed response. I do not recall a limit but I would not use this model for what you need if all users will want to access files at the same time. The drive is not terribly slow for use with 1 or 2 users at once but it’s also not exactly fast. With more users than that I doubt you would be happy with the transfer speeds.
Hi, I got a WD My cloud home duo... It can't be detected or searched. It says that its not connected in the internet. Although I have a steady green light at the back, BUT the white light constantly blinks Hope anyone can help me Thanks
I tried researching others that may have had this problem. The only thing I could find, and I had this issue somewhat as well, is that you may have a security setting on your home network that is not allowing the Home Duo access to the internet or your network.
The Plex app can be used for that. From what I understand it is available on Android, iOS, and PC. It can stream movies from studios but also your own media.
@@turkimax1 I'm not too familiar with Android and casting to a TV with it. Casting from your mobile device to your TV if it has the ability will be the easiest way to connect to your TV.
This thing is junk. OS5 upgrade no longer supports text files remotely along with no DLNA support for steaming devices and OS3 version no longer supports cloud access period. It's a waste of money. Don't buy this product
Yeah, I just saw the upcoming update details. It does take away a lot of the complementary ways you can use this with other cloud based storage platforms. Not sure what they are thinking.
Thanks for the video... Took awhile before I found someone taking a vid of the actual setup and use of the thing. Well done.
Thanks! I appreciate that! I was hoping more people would want to see it work versus hearing about the specs.

Any idea on the difference between your unit there and WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra 8TB?

Hi i got the 20TB but its setup with a Raid 1 so i can only use 10TB how do i change the raid so i can change to 20TB?
It should be an option in the initial set up when you first add the drive to your network.
