I think the Danish and the Dutch Royal families seem so down to earth and normal. The love that Beatrix showed Willem Alexander and Maxima on her abdication and his ascension was so maternal, so loving. The kind of affection that you don’t see in the British Royal family, and it is sad.

Majestal1 That is a common misconception. Queen Elizabeth is a very warm and friendly person, but the British seem to expect the Sovereign to be a more remote figure. They like the walkabout and the candid photo, but really like the slightly iconic figurehead. I think the Danish are very different to the British, hence the different styles of monarchy. I worked at Buckingham Palace for 30 years, 20 of those years in The Queen's private office, and in private she is very different to the public persona. Very warm and friendly with a great sense of humour.

I think it important to speak other languages. I have business interests in Germany and speak almost fluent German. I can also get by in French, Dutch, Polish, Italian and try to cope with Brazilian Portuguese.

Yes, I've noticed this about Danish (I'm an American but I'm interested in foreign languages) in comparison to the other Nordic langauges. Perhaps this characteristic of Danish is one of the reasons that The Queen's English sounds so perfect as she's used to this characteristic of the English Language as well.
These days royals, in order to survive, need to maintain a popular persona. Some do it artificially and hope for the best. Others, like this queen, do so effortlessly simply by being themselves.
To me as a British person, I am convinced this wonderful lady is also 100% British. Her English is better than most people in the UK. She is also a dear lady, and this is every evident. How lucky the Danes are to have her as their Monarch.

It was not my intention to upset anyone, I'm just saying that in the Danish language, they have something called "stød", which basically means that they often don't pronounce the last letters in the word, but make a strange noice which is hard for other Scandinavian people to understand. I'm Norwegian, but my grandfather and mother are Danish.
The Danish royals are so much more modest and 'normal' than the British royal family. I hope that William and Kate will follow the lead of their Danish counterparts and make the monarchy more relatable and also transparent. It needs scaling back

People are surprised that she speaks English so well; she is Queen Elizabeth’s 3rd cousin, and almost all the current monarchs in Europe are great Great great great grand children of queen Victoria. Many of them speak English quite well, because obviously speaking British English, that would be the type of English they would learn, being in Europe.

Yes, I've noticed this about Danish (I'm an American but I'm interested in foreign languages) in comparison to the other Nordic langauges. Perhaps this characteristic of Danish is one of the reasons that The Queen's English sounds so perfect as she's used to this characteristic of the English Language as well.

To me as a British person, I am convinced this wonderful lady is also 100% British. Her English is better than most people in the UK. She is also a dear lady, and this is every evident. How lucky the Danes are to have her as their Monarch.
Agreed and vastly superior to that of most Americans and I'm an American. I detect no trace of accent other than British. It sounds as though she's been practicing with members of the British aristocracy all her life.

It was not my intention to upset anyone, I'm just saying that in the Danish language, they have something called "stød", which basically means that they often don't pronounce the last letters in the word, but make a strange noice which is hard for other Scandinavian people to understand. I'm Norwegian, but my grandfather and mother are Danish.

She is so cool, yet so regal but you get the sense that she's not some pompous dignitary whom you can't connect to.
The Danish royals are so much more modest and 'normal' than the British royal family. I hope that William and Kate will follow the lead of their Danish counterparts and make the monarchy more relatable and also transparent. It needs scaling back
