- Tesla CEO Elon Musk surprised fans unveiling a new Roadster sports car at the company's design studio. Musk says the Roadster will go from 0-60 miles per hour in 1.9 seconds and will have a 620 mile range. It will be available in 2020 as the fastest production car ever made.
Does 0-60 in 1.9 seconds for $200k and people still find a way to complain about 'lack of noise', when it beats the gasoline Bugatti Veyron, with an electric motor. I love v8s as much as the next person but there is no way to deny that this car is insane.

They actually can't get much faster with commercial vehicles. From an engineering perspective it's obviously possible, but the G-forces of accelerating at that speed can cause organ damage once you hit a certain point. I believe professional drag racers already deal with this problem (The fastest of which has a record speed of 0-60mph in 0.86 second, as opposed to the roadsters 1.9). Maybe the special versions of the roadster will be able to match the speed of a dragster, at that point it really will be the fastest production car made, especially once regulations on max g-force allowed start to pop up.
0-60mph in .3 seconds would give the driver 9.12G's, enough to make most untrained people pass out. So we can safely assume automakers wont ever create commercial vehicles faster than that.

Our team’s new batteries has helped improve these numbers by margins. The current prototype Roadster is reaching 1.4 - 1.6 average. I know this as I am one of the engineers behind this ;)

We will know it's lap time when someone buys it and takes it to the Ring. The batteries will make it heavy, but it has better acceleration and top speed than almost anything, so it's safe to say the lap time will be pretty good.
