Tbh, I don't think Brad Mondo really knows anything about curly hair. He's even admitted this in the past. He also basically blamed the victims of the DevaCurl fiasco.
I think he is good in giving colouring advices and straight hair cuts, and he is doing a great job with it.
more like giving "advice" than actually coloring/cutting it himself I guess :D
To be fair a lot of people and hairstyles did the same during the whole devacurl fiasco...
In a prev video he did say he more watches curly routines and techniques to actually learn since he's not super familiar with naturally curly hair

Jade I couldn’t agree more. I’ve struggled to find a stylist for that very reason and they all say they have so much experience with curly hair. I can tell once they reach for the brush😆

I just about died when he said he wouldn't recommend you use gel. Sir my hair is on the curly-wavy side and if only used foam we'd get maybe 3 hours of decent hair.

Laughed so hard when Brad thought your hair would dry in a wet plop. I diffuse to 50% and it still takes hours to dry afterward. And my hair is thin and fine. I would be living in that shower cap for a week if I was waiting for it to dry like that.

Brad mondo clearly isn’t educated on curly hair. Us more wavy/curly girls can’t always use a denman brush or a wide tooth comb while styling. That would mess up my clumps!! ALSO soaking wet styling is the only way to go!!! And he has no freaking clue about gel lmaooo. I would love to see him try and style a curly girls hair oof.
if someone wants perfectly frizz feee hair = SOAKING WET. I personally like to do damp style a lot for a frizzy, beachy look but I understand that it can lead to frizz 🙃🙃 I would love to see him collab a curly influencer 💛💛💛💛

And also he said to apply product after , during my transition i had wavy ish hair but now im 3a-3b ish so i use the brush style method and I NEED SOME SORT OF CURL CREAM OR LEAVE IN CONDITIONER CREAM for the brush to clump and glide through my hair ( I actually need both leave in and curl cream for my thick coarse curls to last 😝)
Love Brad Mondo, but my one issue is that he doesn't have curly hair, and while yes, he's a stylist, if you don't have curly hair then you don't really know what works best for it... and different methods work better for different people/curls.
That said, I think you should absolutely review his products! It's only fair since he reviewed your hair routine! 😄 I'm genuinely curious how well they work though.
Honestly this video was a mess imo. His ignorance of actual care for curls is obvious and it frustrates me that so many people are getting this bad advice from him
Yes, but there are a lot of curly/wavy haired peoples who still don't even know how to do their own hair. (Me guilty for majority of my life LOL!) I think he just has different methods
He often still loves the curly hair results. So I guess it shows that even though he likes how it looks he has not that much experience with textured hair.
Often times things that are supposed to be "wrong" work for some people amazingly.

I'd get kicked in the teeth if I tried to dry detangle my daughter's waist length waves. We have to add water and conditioner for good slip.
I can detangle my own waves, 2b at best, dry. And then I lose all wave, all definition, and have frizzy "straight" hair. If I want that look, sure.
@@tinkeramma Exactly. I have 2b/2c hair similar to India's, and if I detangle it dry, it's a mess. I usually use a detangling brush in the shower with tons of conditioner on the hair.
HE'S NEVER HEARD OF THE BOWL METHOD?? God I really can't stand stylists that refuse to learn new methods of styling and re-educate themselves...right off the bat he loses all credibility.
To be fair, I never heard of it either. Scrunching or cupping with hands is what I’ve always done. Seems like I’m out of touch with what the newer generation is doing. A bowl??? Nope but can see why it would work.
You definitely know better what works on your hair than anybody else :) This was just a game for Brad, but it does illustrate the wavy/curly struggles at the hair salon: they don't know what's good for us...

So true! There is no one right way for textured hair! Mostly the person who has the hair on their head spent a lot of time to figure stuff out through trial and error.
A problem I have with some people is that.. they want to give advice about how to take care of curly hair.. when they DON'T HAVE CURLY HAIR!! it's SOOO much different than straight hair lol.. for instance.. my niece has a lot of curl and my mom is constantly telling her to go brush her hair.. ummm excuse me ma'am but you can't brush dry curly hair! But my mom didn't get it lol.. my niece and myself are the ONLY ones in the family with natural curly hair.. so you don't know unless you know!
My mom has naturally straight hair, and she tells me to brush too when it's very frizzy... she doesn't know because her hair is straight!

This was cute! I love Brad, but every curly/wavy girl knows unless a stylist has had special training for our hair, they really can't be speaking on our routines LOL. He was shocked at how curly your hair was... and he should have given you some points back for that!
If you notice he does that a lot. When he's watching people do things their way and not how HE or another hairstylist does them, he's always backtracking and surprised.
Brad Mondo knows nothing about curly hair. His one video about wedding styles was just dissing curly styles and praising straight styles. He lost LOTS of points that day. Lots. Blah to Mondo

Unpopular opinion here, but I ALWAYS use a little conditioner on the top of my hair. My hair gets knotted/tangled super easily, if I don't put conditioner on my scalp as well, detangling is impossible and honestly painful. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but I've never had problems with volume, even when I had long hair that went past my butt. I have wavy/curly hair.
I have to put conditioner all the way to my roots otherwise they will be dry rough and frizzy and the rest of my hair normal , and I actually have the dryest piece of my hair at the top root of my head which is funny cuz the front is the curliest but the sides of the top section are the loosest , aren’t curls fun
I’m a stylist and I do the same thing. I have layers and facial framing so I need to condition the top of of my head if I didn’t then my shorter layers would be dry. I wouldn’t suggest putting conditioner directly on your scalp but putting it near your roots isn’t bad unless you have fine hair.

I need conditioner at my roots or end up with dry, damaged hair right at the top.
I live in Utah. It's a giant desert of a state. Everyone expects the dry of the summer, but during the winter? Oof.
My scalp does its job but it takes a bit to kick in. I use the lightest conditioner I have at my roots even if I deep condition, but my hair still needs help if I use shampoo and sometimes cowash doesn't cut it.
You may be brushing wrong. I have a disorder that makes my skin more sensitive, and brushing my hair could be PAINFUL if I’m not careful. I slowly brush out my knots from bottom to top and slowly work the knots down to the ends. I get an oily scalp so I use a little bit of spray detangler on the roots but that’s it.
A lot of wavies prefer a gel over a cream because they get the most definition without being weighed down. I’m one of them🙌🏻 Some of my best wash days come from using one styler...gel💖

First off, if I wet plop my hair, it will NEVER dry on its own! Second, PLEASE review the xMondo line! I have been waiting for someone I trust and follow to do a review of it.
I wet plop my hair until the water stops dripping down my neck, then let it down to air dry.
It takes can take 6 HOURS to air dry and isn't particularly a lot of hair. Wavy, not super curly or coiled.
I air dry because I'm lazy and because lifting my arms to diffuse gives me rotten back pain, so when I do use the diffuser, it's only for special events.
@@tinkerammainvest in a hooded dryer, similar to the ones in salons. Changed my life!! No more diffusing!! I also bought a large hooded cap to attach to a hair dryer when I travel. I don’t like the results as much as the hooded dryer, but it does the trick when away from home.

You can really see the lack of education in curly hair with many hairstylists still wow. Not even trying to be mean or anything but it‘s sad like there are so many people with textured hair out there and if you call yourself a hairstylists you should be educated about ALL types of hair. Sorry not sorry
Unfortunately too many hair stylists don’t agree with you!! I’ve had stylists that are even POC argue with me that I should just go to a specialist, that I should travel far away to another state to find a stylist who can style my natural hair after getting highlights. 🤮 That I shouldn’t expect all stylists to know how to work with my hair type! (these same stylists only do blow outs btw, no examples of natural texture on their Instagram) There is a lot of internalized racism within the industry and a preference for straight hair because it’s seen as more “put together” which is totally wrong. All stylists just do curly blow outs, they do the same “neat” finished hair style on every single client. I’ve never had a stylist take a picture of my natural texture & be proud of their work and showcase it on their portfolio.

You get a 10 from me. I’m a hairdresser too. But I do not agree with brad on everything. You have to keep in mind not all hairdressers are educated when comes to all the curly girl stuff. But it’s also hard to fully understand what it’s like to have a different hair type than your own. I have naturally curly hair and I often recommend my clients come to your channel for more education on curly hair!

She is the type of stylist I like to watch on TH-cam to get knowledge because she dives in to the science of it. I watch Brad purely for entertainment but think people should take alot of what he says about hair with a pinch of salt even though I really like him.

I agree w the silicone statement. I did CGM for so long & was depressed to look like poop. I don’t care about curl, my issue is frizz. And my hair had soooo much buildup from CGM.
So for me personally, my hair LOVES silicone. And I don’t use sulfates hardly ever, never notice buildup. Like I ALWAYS had & felt from CGM
Manes By Mell actually says that if silicones work for you then they work for you! I’m a wavy 2A-2C (my hair is literally like India’s here and is just as blond lol), and I need at least one product with silicone and my go-to is the Garnier Anti-humidity smoothing milk that I use as a leave-in and I was using it when I styled straight. While the bowl method and squish to condish is my go-to, I need at least a lil bit of dimethicone to help with wet frizz. I also water it down in a 1:2 ratio in a spritzer bottle for refresh. I have to use a clarifying shampoo about every other week as I naturally get scalp build-up even w/out products anyway so I don’t have to worry about silicone build up. It’s really what works for you! I’m glad India is always transparent on the ingredients so we can decide if it’s going to be something we will like!

Some silicones do not build up on too of itself. These are the ones I love. Others do and you’ll feel it sooner rather than later. Polyquats behave like “cones” also. 🤔 I despise polyquats. They build up on my hair like nothing else and I find them more difficult to remove.
Would love to see you solely use all of the Mondo products and review. My daughter has curly hair and mine is wavy, so I'd like to see the texture and results. Love your videos...so informative and fun! You're an amazing woman. ❤️
Yes, 100% test the products on camera for us! I've been wondering about his line. I love Brad, I always enjoy his videos, he is just adorable! I have a similar wave pattern to yours India, but I think my hair is even finer, and tends to be even dryer and more difficult, I personally followed the CG method for a long time, but my hair actually looks better with some silicones, and gasp....some sulfates in my shampoo. Maybe I just haven't found the best SF for me, but it leaves my hair more tangled and dry...I have learned so much from all the ladies on YT with curly/wavy hair, and no disrespect at all to Brad, but in my experience most hair dresser's had no clue how to deal with my hair. I had to either figure it out myself, or learn from the curly community here. Not all products work for everyone, and not all hair "rules" work like they are supposed to for everyone! ❤️

Great fun! I loved seeing your reactions and the moment he started talking about how he was concerned about your volume, I was like "dude, you don't know India!!" Final thought - the fact you used conditioner on your scalp gave me the courage to try it and I can't ever go back. I don't lose any volume and it's helped tame some of my frizz & baby curls. I can't wait to see what you think of his products!!

I loved this video! I would love to see how you feel about his line. In currently STRUGGLING with my curly hair. I never get time to do it and it's in a bun 100% of the time and then my ends are terrible. Covid really didn't help but I remain patient! I love that you disagreed with him because I agree with you! I find my hair is so much better when it's wet wet not a little damp.

I saw Brad's video and hoped he wouldn't come for you too badly haha. Since I knew your hair turned out awesome, I kept thinking "wait for it!" I know us curly girls all do our hair differently, and there's no one size fits all. With curly hair, I feel like Brad just says what he thinks for the very basics, but it's not necessarily accurate for all us curly girls. I'm like you India, I could put a gallon of conditioner all over my hair and I have zero problem with volume. I feel like when you have curly hair, when you know, you know. When you don't have curly hair, it's not as easy to really 'get it'. I still enjoy watching Brad, but I would like to see him do actual curly hair more often to rep the curly girls.
Honestly he clearly knows nothing about curly hair and it’s painfully obvious he should leave other curly girls alone. People with straight hair just won’t ever get it lmao. He may be a “professional” but with straight easy to do hair. I think anyone with super curly long hair who does it everyday is a professional not him. Funny how I’ve never even saw him do curly hair it would probably be a whole ass mess I’m betting he only knows how to “fix” curly hair with straighteners.

I watched his curly/wavy styling tips video(s? Forget if there was more than one) before and take his advice with a grain of salt. I did have good results combing mousse through my waves before, which I got from him, but it's not realistic for me for regular routine because it's too wet and takes too long to dry if I don't scrunch/microplop the water out.
Another thing I took from his vid is a really gentle scrunch lifting at the root which is nice for light waves but does nothing if you want curls/definition. You definitely need an aggressive scrunch and gel if you want hold for more than a few hours!

Anyone that has actual curly hair knows that you usually need a gel/cream as well as a foam type product for frizz free hold and bouncy curls that last. We aren’t washing and styling again the next day sir.
Also, I always diffuse up. The product is what keeps the frizz in check. Never have an issue.
Depends on one’s lifestyle. Workouts and sweat changes everything.

Brad has wet plop & dry plop confused lol. It's impossible to dry your hair in a wet plop 😂 Even in a "dry" plop if you slept in it you'd wake up with wet hair lol.
