Keri Harguess Even the “licensed professionals” at the actual professional beauty supply stores don’t know a lot, everytime ive ever taken their advice it’s the worst. There’s a reason why they’re a cashier. Not a hairdresser 👀
I love Brad. I’m a chemist and he’s always spot-on with his explanations. I also love that as a hairstylist and fashion influencer, he totally gets it that at the end of the day, it’s just hair. It will grow back. And people are beautiful because they are good people with good souls.
As someone with naturally loose curls/waves, it is NOT easier than straight hair. My hair is unpredictable. Sometimes it looks flawless right out of bed, other times I want to shave it off. It’s also on the dry side so it often gets frizzy. Be thankful for what you have!

I'm having nightmarish flashbacks to 3rd grade when my mother took me to our local cosmetology school. They gave me a shoulder-length super tight poodle perm...and they permed my bangs. You know those moments where you remember something from your past and you can like feel your soul leave your body a little bit? Yeah.
I was 11 and had butt length hair that shrunk to nearly shoulder length, and was, let's just say full-on cloud formation around my head... Mom was trying to tame my curl, it showed her.
My son has curly hair. I mean perfect fucking curls. Though it is beautiful. Takes a lot of care and up keep. Or else. I’ve been to the “or else” lmao.
My hair loves to tangle, even with a bonnet on, tho the bonnet does help, but I would wager that curly hair is significantly more difficult to take care of than straight hair
I think natural curls are more work. I had gotten my hair permed about 4 years ago. I was able to just wake up wet my hair a little. Add very little product and go. (5 min) (I got like tight spiral curls and the lady doing it said 100x are you sure you want this XD) My natural curly friends definitely have to put more work into their hair. Maybe a texture thing too.
Facts . I laughed when she said that . It takes more product’s and time . I have to line my wash days up with my schedule . pray the when I wake up that it’s going to be a good hair day .
“I talked to a cosmetologist so I think I know what I’m doing” is basically just like saying - “ I talked to a surgeon so I’m pretty sure I know how to operate” Internet qualifications right 😂😅✌🏼
So much truth! It does it’s own thing like 99% of the time, and that 99% is like you licked an electric outlet for funsies and your hair is going to rock that look unless you go to war with it.
🤣 “imagine waking up like this everyday..” Those with naturally curly hair, myself included, wake up with a rats nest majority of the time if it’s not maintained before bed.
At least y’all’s hair looks gorgeous, I’m over hear waking up with really pretty waves but it’s straightens like pin straight immediately after brushing. Sucks, but it’s not like I can go without brushing, it knots easily. Curls look so beautiful when you take care of them (it’s exhausting I’d imagine)
@@elf7184 It's extremely exhausting and you don't know knotting until you have curly hair... Just sleeping can cause knots from hell to form that you then have to battle in the morning plus it frizzes way easier than straight/wavy hair so say goodbye to just runnin a brush through your hair and walkin out the door because with curly hair that is not a thing.... I swear people with straight/wavy hair look at us with curly hair and think it's wonderful yet have no idea how real the struggle truly is for our hair to stay looking the way it does for you straight/wavy haired people to want it.... Be careful what you wish for, I love my hair, but when you have curly hair, it doesn't always love you back! JS!!
Ashley McBrayer dude I think I have an idea, don’t assume my hair didn’t give me hell. I would wear a hoodie and the underneath of my hair would literally MATTE up in gigantic nots that looked almost like dread locks. I had to brush my hair about 20 times a day, even if I didn’t have a hoodie on. It took hours to brush out. I went to get it cut, I brushed it before hand and the hairstylist got rude with me saying “you could have at least brushed it” I did brush it, throughly till every last note was out but there I was with a mini dreadlock again. So tell me again how I don’t know what knotting is??? Because I’ve dealt with this since childhood so I’m fairly certain I have an idea.
Ashley McBrayer lmao I wish I could run a come through my hair and walk out the door, nah instead I’m crying because it’s making my head feel so damn raw and ripping out tons of hair.
do ppl with straight hair really think that we just wake up with perfect hair...do y’all realise the spraying and the gel and shit i gotta put in my hair every morning........

liz avalos don’t doooooo it! Lol. Perms are the worst. I still have PTSD from one my mom gave me 25 years ago. Considering the fact that my hair is already quite curly/wavy I’m not sure why that happened...
I have naturally curly hair (which as we all know is a lot of work) and my mom was always like “instead of flat ironing it we should just get her a relaxer.” My dad was ADAMANT I would never get a perm, and I’m so grateful he never let it happen. He used to sit for hours and braid or straighten my hair almost every weekend to avoid me getting a perm.
Lmao Yup at 30 yrs old and Super curly hair that is not only thick but goes past my hips I can honestly say it's anything but the type of hair you can just wake up with and go unless of course you think the "I haven't brushed my hair in months and look like I've crawled out of oscar the grouch's trash can" look is about to be a trend lol because that's reality of having naturally curly hair and wakin up prayin for a good hair day!
I had a consultation today with a perm specialist. I live in Florida. My sister has her own salon in Delaware. She highlighted my hair last time I had it done in July. She does a bunch of perms because back in the 90's they were very popular. Most of the younger hair stylists do not know what they are doing when it comes to perms. They are fantastic with color. I found an actual perm specialist. I called my sister during my consultation and they talked to each other about the color used on my hair, hair type, rods, and different brands of perms. I am getting my perm tomorrow and I know that I will be in great hands after my consult today. I am 49. I haven't had a perm since the 90's. LOL I'm excited.
@Ella F well it's a changing situation! I did it about a week ago, and at first it looked like it hadn't taken. But a week or so of using deep conditioners and fancy shampoos, and the curls are really coming through! Overall I'd say it was a success!
me and my friend found at home perm boxes at my house when we were in 6TH grade! and we were gonna perm our hair and we couldn't find the curling rods. Let me tell you I am forever grateful those curling rods were nowhere to be found.
My mom gave me a home perm in 7th grade and it turned out great. I never realized how difficult it was until your video. I have a whole new level of respect for my mom now! 💖💁🏻♀️
I love hearing the actual science behind this and the little facts you give! Makes the whole channel to me and keeps me interested. Love you and your channel so much
I just started a process at my local hair salon to have an end plan to get my hair permed... to be told it won't be possible... I used spat ombre hair dye in my hair back in November and haven't done anything with it since, because they dyes (4 different colors) are still still in my hair... after my hair was washed and cut... they noticed my hair had a lot of damage (dried out and looked very unhealthy)... so I went back so they could do a treatment in my hair (never removing the hair dye I have still)... I was suppose to go back 2 more times next would be the perm and then a dye back to my natural hair color...she told me since I used splat I hair wouldn't be able to be permed... and for her to dye it, she's going to have to use a special technique to get the brown and light brown look I'm looking for. What or is there anything I can do to get the perm I want for my hair? She strained test my hair today before washing and treating it. The dye did come out, but my hair was brittle and just felt apart. PLEASE, I NEED SOME ADVICE!!!
@@momof2wi217 Just don't do it. You're better off just growing out, cutting it, and doing it on virgin hair like Brad said else your hair is going to be very damaged. Listen to your stylist on this one
@@coolkrew7115 no, but my mom worked in the salon until a week before I was born then returned when I was about 2 months old. My playpen was in the back room.
I'm currently in Cosmetology school and I LOVE watching your videos when I'm studying because you give so much information about the things I'm confused on. Thank you so much for helping me understand with a different point of view
i actually love how educational you are in your videos. it really helps, even if someone goes to a salon, they become more knowledgeable on things to look out for or things to ask for.
This is one of the things I HATE hearing from people who have straight hair. "Oh my god your hair is just naturally like that? I bet you don't have to do anything to it in the morning!" Meanwhile my ass waking up in the morning looking like a garbage with my curly ass hair matted ON ONE SIDE like I haven't brushed it in two years. "yea...i just wake up like this."
Lmao I feel your pain, I go through the same thing and then have straight haired people say they wish they had it and I'm over here like "Yea you think that now, but I give you a week with this hair and you'll be beggin for that straight hair to come right back" this ish is not easy by any means!
I don’t have curly hair, but everyday I wake up and depending on what side I slept on my bangs will sweep to that side so now I change the side I sleep on every night so it isn’t too messed up every other day but it takes so long to get it centered every morning to get it right. Taking care of hair is WILD sometimes
I can relate to your struggle. My hair is thin and low density so it gets flat and deformed while I sleep so forget second, third day, etc curls for me. I have to style my hair every day. Also, do you ever have to plan ahead whether to accept going out depending on how long I need to get my hair looking decent? LOL
@@ShizukaAoki Yes, it is time-consuming and so tiring. That's why most often I would simply have my hair in a bun. It is not great for my hair but I need my hair off my face and not look crazy. Don't get me wrong, I love curly hair and I show my hair love but some times I just don't have the time or patience.
Honey I have blue hair. I'm 26 with a 10 month old and I can't wait until she's like 16 so we can dye our hair crazy colors together. You're never too old yo express yourself!

I have curly hair and I can never understand why people want to burden themselves with the struggles of maintaining curly hair. U HAVE IT SO EASY WHY MAKE IT SO HARD FOR URSELF? I DONT UNDERSTAND😩
I used to have straightish hair as a child but it turned curly with puberty and it is much harder to have curly hair! Trust me I have had both sides all these people with straight hair on here thinking they have it hard 😂

@@alexisanglin Maybe in the long term, but Brad himself made a video about a year ago where he gets botox and lip filler. So for now, that's his not-so secret to his glowing, healthy skin (plus make-up and good lighting of course). Not that I have a problem with any of that, I hasten to add. Brads a great guy! 😁
I permed my sister’s hair once and it turned out fabulous. However, she didn’t think it was actually important to follow the instructions about waiting to wash your hair.
Does anyone else think he looks like joker from suicide squad? Like the joker that Harley Quinn pictures having a family with? Like not in a negative way... I love that hair😍😍
I got my first perm about 1,5 years ago and I still loooove it😊 I mean, yeah, the struggle with humidity, wind and styling is real, but for me it's worth it. Took me a couple of months to find out which products and techniques work for me, but I'm finally there🥰🥰
I love how mortified Brad is by the concept of home perms, all while each and every elderly eastern european lady from my hometown does it while simultaniously cooking a stew and folding some laundry 😂
Brad, my mom was a licensed cosmetologist in her 20's and worked in the JC Penny hair salon in the 70's. when I was a kid and up to my preteen years, my mom would perm my hair at home. I can attest to the length and time it took to roll my hair and perm it. she would break it up into 2 parts: the rolling and the applying of the solution. this video brought back those memories of her. Thank you and i love your positive attitude and outlook.
auntiea2002 do you think it would be a bad idea to perm naturally curly hair? My hair is loose curl but is frizzy without tons of product so I’m wondering if a perm would be smart.
@@rosexx241 if you have naturally curly hair, l would not get a perm. Maybe just work on reducing your frizz and working with your natural curls. Again, I'm no professional hair stylist but give it a try. You might like what you have.
@@rosexx241 there's a product called ahhmazing. It's a spray on, alcohol free leave in conditioner. Put it on your towel dried hair, comb it through. Try not to use too much near your roots or it can get greasy. There are alot of other alcohol free products out there. Good luck.

From someone who’s gone to a stylist 3 times to get my hair permed, I would never attempt this at home. They are very difficult for even hair stylists to do, let alone someone who doesn’t even know how to brush their hair properly 😂 Dying your hair at home is one thing, a perm is way too much!
Mary Unity I’m in school and I know exactly what he is talking about I’ve done one perm on someone and legit had straight spots and it took me 45-60 min to roll her hair and then an extra 30-45 with the solution and rinse and I used a iso perm
aspie bear perms are really hard tell You get used to them. For once thing, I don’t think I have used a traditional perm set since I graduated school. I always use flex rods, or sticks, or wave formers. It takes practice. But once you get the hang of it you can wrap a perm in 15 minuets!
My mom uses rollers in my hair but it takes her at least 3-4 hours to do the whole thing how do you do it in 15 minutes? My Instagram is @xquesess if you wanna check it out
I’m majoring in chemistry and I love TH-cam but most youtubers don’t really ever touch on ANYTHING related to my field. You, Brad Mondo, are the first. So thank you, so much.
you know what i don't understand? why it's so easy tp straighten your hair but until today there is no chemical method to make hair look like REAL tight curls, not just perm noodles
My mom got a perm in the late 80s early 90s. Her hair was insanely curly, they gave her strong ringlets doing super small sections. It won’t look like it got curled with a curling rod but it was definitely beautiful what she got done 🥹❤️

So im rewatching and a story came to mind that's wholesome as fuuuu... When I was younger say.... 12? Sor 11 years ago, my nana LOVED having her hair permed but like Brad said bad experiences got in the way and she didn't trust them anymore so, every week my nana would come to our house and my mum would sit for hours with this fixing goop (it has been discontinued idky) but she'd sit with this goop and curling irons and my nana and she'd curl every square inch of her hair with the irons and this goop and because it made my nana so happy she did it every week until my nan passed away, so now, when I want to curl my own hair I ask my mum to do it because she loved doing it so much and (at this point I'm officially crying because my nana was a Saint and I love her so fucking much) seeing my mum so happy makes me happy and yeah... Have some wholesome :)
People with straight hair while showering: conditioner, shampoo, maybe a bottle of product, brush out hair and wait for it to dry People with curly hair: shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, hair oil, hair lotion, gel, curl definer, having to define and style your curls otherwise it’ll look like you got hit by a tornado
Nah I have straight hair, and the conditioner and shampoo part is correct but brushing it while it's wet is a big no. Brushing straight hair while wet is like asking for a big chop lmao. Most advise straight hair people to let it dry then brush.
My mum and her best friend used to drink a whole cask (3L) of wine while perming each other's hair every 2-3 months while I was growing up..... that smell reminds me of giggling "adults" living their best lives!!! 😍
Oh man. I forgot the smell but you’re right! I’d get a migraine! When I was a tiny child my mom went for me to get one. Eventually I had to stop getting them because it hurt my skin really badly. A little always seemed to seep onto the skin of my temples and forehead and would burn. The last time I tried very hard but I couldn’t help crying. And it took longer to get ready because they needed... guidance to have a nice look. Now I can’t keep a curl to save my life (my record is 48 minutes, with overnight setting of hot rollers, with product) and because my hair is fine and thin, I have zero volume. So at times I’m wistful. But overall... it’s such a fuss and takes forever to grow out. And this way, I don’t have that smell haunting me. 🤣
I had so much respect for my hairdresser when she turned down a client who wanted a perm. She told him that she knew how to do it, but hasn't done it enough to feel comfortable with doing it on his hair. She transfered hin to her coworker who specializes in perms
ikr, i’m finally learning to take care of mine, and DAMN i have a L O N G way to go. my hair is so much curlier than i first through lmao, guess that’s what i gotta deal with when my mom has straight thin hair and my dad is bald (i got his hair but he never learned to take care of it lmaoo)
You should react to people getting relaxers. I used to buy the $5 ones at the hair store and administer them myself. My hair was so damaged lol. But now I’m four years into my natural hair journey and loving it 💖
A. L. Michael Same here! My scalp would be on fire after my mom got done with one section of my hair. The last one fried my hair. Thank god for deep conditioners & masks!
I love that Brad explains the chemistry of hair design. I go to a salon for everything but during covid I couldn't get into the salon. It had been several months since my last highlight and my dirty blond hair color was taking over. I considered getting a box dye to get it to a golden blond and I would have started on my roots because that's what I thought I should do but after watching Brad's videos I'm definitely going to wait to get into the salon.
Unpopular opinion of a natural curly headed girl: I actually ADORE my curls. And sure, it gets SO tangled and brushing it dry is a NO NO. But what I do is I wash it at night, brush it out, go to sleep, and then when I wake up splash some water, maybe add leave-in conditioner, and it's PERFECT. And it takes around 5- 10 minutes at most to do. There are both pros and cons to being a curly head. p.s. My curls are more ringlet style rather than afro, so my experience may be different from others.
Callie Marshall Putting my hair in a pineapple and sleeping in a satin pillowcase have been a game changer for waking up with manageable curls (I have 3c curls)
All I know is no matter how I put my hair up or what pillow case I sleep on my hair just mats and my curls get suck in ways that only water can help. I’m a very hard sleeper and change positions all night long
I do that too and it's def a lot better than washing it during other times of the day. But since i have a loooooot of hair i wash it like 1 hour before going to bed
Watching this 2 years later but Brad I'm 27 and I'm definitely turning back to emo/pagan/witchy vibes version of me and I LOVE IT. Bring back the angst!

My hair loves to tangle, even with a bonnet on, tho the bonnet does help, but I would wager that curly hair is significantly more difficult to take care of than straight hair
No person with naturally curly hair has ever EVER thought get ready in the morning was easier because of it.
I think natural curls are more work. I had gotten my hair permed about 4 years ago. I was able to just wake up wet my hair a little. Add very little product and go. (5 min) (I got like tight spiral curls and the lady doing it said 100x are you sure you want this XD)
My natural curly friends definitely have to put more work into their hair. Maybe a texture thing too.
FACTS
Yea no kidding especially since there’s many forms of curly hair (wavy doesn’t count sorry)
It’s only easy for me when my hair is very short, less time to wet my hair to style in the morning
Facts . I laughed when she said that .
It takes more product’s and time . I have to line my wash days up with my schedule . pray the when I wake up that it’s going to be a good hair day .

“Curly hair is easier” -random straight haired person that doesn’t understand the struggle

Binge watching all brad mondos videos. He's told me I'm beautiful more than anyone in my life. Feelin myself now
People with straight hair while showering: conditioner, shampoo, maybe a bottle of product, brush out hair and wait for it to dry
People with curly hair: shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, hair oil, hair lotion, gel, curl definer, having to define and style your curls otherwise it’ll look like you got hit by a tornado
i ate all ur pizza rolls oof I felt that
Nah I have straight hair, and the conditioner and shampoo part is correct but brushing it while it's wet is a big no. Brushing straight hair while wet is like asking for a big chop lmao. Most advise straight hair people to let it dry then brush.
I love being white we can only brush when it’s wet lmao
Not to mention if it’s a deep conditioning day .
I love being white yeah like if you brush straight hair when it’s wet like that’s on damage
"Curly hair is easier"
No the *hell* it is not.
🤣 Lmao ikr the struggle is real and people with straight hair will never understand it!!🙄😒
I have wavy with some curls and it is hard I could not imagine having very curly hair but how on earth do some people thing curly hair is easy?
Let's say that again
OH HELL NO
@@Kysa1140 and you never know what your hair will do from one day to the next
But...it's cute af
I remember in the 80's, my mom would perm her hair at home a lot. The smell haunts me to this day 😂
My mum and her best friend used to drink a whole cask (3L) of wine while perming each other's hair every 2-3 months while I was growing up..... that smell reminds me of giggling "adults" living their best lives!!! 😍
@@cheekyb71 LMAO That's fun
@@jaimereynolds258 so much fun!!!
Products nowdays aren't so nasty as back then
I had so much respect for my hairdresser when she turned down a client who wanted a perm. She told him that she knew how to do it, but hasn't done it enough to feel comfortable with doing it on his hair. She transfered hin to her coworker who specializes in perms

"could you imagine having naturally curly hair and waking up every day looking like this??"

Liz Clark I want your struggle lol

Someone tell sis curly hair is a whole journey
ikr, i’m finally learning to take care of mine, and DAMN i have a L O N G way to go. my hair is so much curlier than i first through lmao, guess that’s what i gotta deal with when my mom has straight thin hair and my dad is bald (i got his hair but he never learned to take care of it lmaoo)
Yes
You look amazing! Favorite hair colors of all time Mr. Mondo!
I get happy when he says “hi beautiful” 😂❤️
Candace Smith aha when he says that I question who he is talking to
My new life quote;
“Enough about me, nobody cares.”

The minute Brad said "ammonium thioglyocolate" I immediately thought of Legally Blonde 😂
Same
Me too!!! Lol
Unpopular opinion of a natural curly headed girl:
I actually ADORE my curls.
Girl my hair does not do that, how can I sleep on my hair where it’s still able to style
Curls are universal btw
Callie Marshall Putting my hair in a pineapple and sleeping in a satin pillowcase have been a game changer for waking up with manageable curls (I have 3c curls)
All I know is no matter how I put my hair up or what pillow case I sleep on my hair just mats and my curls get suck in ways that only water can help. I’m a very hard sleeper and change positions all night long
I do that too and it's def a lot better than washing it during other times of the day. But since i have a loooooot of hair i wash it like 1 hour before going to bed
honey if you think curly hair is gonna be EASIER you got a whole thing coming
Watching this 2 years later but Brad I'm 27 and I'm definitely turning back to emo/pagan/witchy vibes version of me and I LOVE IT. Bring back the angst!
Favorite curly question: "Are your curls natural?" My first response used to be "Do people do this to themselves on purpose?!" Now I know they actually do 😮
Katherine Kolind I’ve always wondered that but now I see people actually want to curse themselves
I used to get asked that ALL THE TIME I wish I had thought of that comment back then 😂 😂
@@bunnyyy_xxx2220 curls aren't a curse lol! You have been brainwashed to think so!
I want Brad to do a “looking at my photos from teenage years” NEED
Otaku_Dude8153 he already did 😹
He’s from my town lol, I can try and find other pictures of teen brad. There’s only 2 high schools in my town, 1 you have to get an interview for the other you don’t
Where’s the naturally curly hair squad at? 🙌🏼
