I’ve flown long haul premium economy from Australia on two occasions to L.A. and London. Managed to get both trips on the bidding upgrade system for an extra $500 each way. Gotta say I would never fly long haul in basic economy again but I also wouldn’t pay full price for premium economy, I’d go business as a treat as I only do it every 10 years.
The problem with most premium economies is that the arm rests are fixed. Sometimes; on a quieter flight; you’re better in economy because if you get two to three seats to yourself you can lay down; whereas in premium economy even if you have a row to yourself you can’t move armrests and lay down.
Absolutely, few weeks ago I had a flight from Miami to Doha, almost 14 hours, my longest flight so far, the plane was empty, 3 seats for myself and I slept at least 8 hours straight and also my personal record
In an ideal world that is true, but I've traveled on far too many trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific flights where the economy cabin is fully booked and there was no room to move. At least with premium economy, I have room to stretch out my legs, a footrest and don't arrive feeling like my spine was twisted into a pretzel.
As a “mature” traveller, I have now reached the point where I find the long haul flights in economy unbearable. Last year I flew from Melbourne to London on Singapore Airlines, Premium Economy and really for me that extra legroom was worth the money. SIA also included free wifi which was a bonus, as you say adequate for sending updates to loved ones. Also NO amenities kits, I also thought that was rather cheap given how much extra you are paying. Another surprising thing was that there was no separate drinks service, I found out later drinks are now on request, also I thought “cheap” Food was ok without being much better than economy. I have booked my next flight to Cape Town from Melbourne early next year on SIA in Premium Economy, purely because I now need that extra comfort, rather than because it represents good value.
I also flew Singapore Airlines premium economy September last year, Melbourne to Munich. I used ‘Book the Cook’ to preorder meals of my choice - excellent. And I also believe there were amenities.
As a person who fly economy most of the time, i hopped on Premium Econ from LHR to DXB last year and yes. The best decision ever! I slept like a baby throughout the journey and sat at the same seat you are seating in this video. I am a fan of this class. Haha
no one mentions but really important. Do you share the same toilet as economy? I find this a nightmare because if you are by the window so hard to get out and by the time you do the lights are red due to regular toilet users!
The catering on JAL is the same as economy however they do serve champagne! At 42 inches their legroom is 4 inches more than Emirates (and virtually everyone else). Also JAL provides lounge access which in Tokyo is fantastic
I've never flown Emirates, but flying to SE Asia for the first time next week. My wife and I are doing Business Class on Malaysia 737-800 and A330-300, Cathay Pacific A330-300 and A350-900, and EVA 777-300. Watched all of your videos to make our decision before booking. Thanks for what you do!
I used to splurge on premium upgrades like Emirates, and they definitely made retirement feel more fun. But now, six years in, inflation has made it tough to keep up the same lifestyle. I’ve even started worrying about outliving my savings, especially with sequence of returns risk weighing on my mind. I’ve noticed that every withdrawal makes it harder to recover. These days, I lean more towards economy options just to stretch things out a little longer and make sure I can still enjoy life without stressing too much about the future
I’m nearing retirement myself, and I had similar concerns. I started investing later than most, and just relying on ETF compounding wasn’t cutting it for me either. After working with a financial advisor, I managed to restructure my investments and am now on track to retire with around $4 million. If I hadn’t sought advice, I doubt I’d be as confident in my plan right now
I usually steer clear of recommending specific people because financial needs are so personal. But I can say that working with Emily Ava Milligan has made a world of difference for me. I noticed her strategies are tailored to fit personal goals and make sense for different needs. It might be worth exploring to see if her approach resonates with you
I flew the A380 at the start of the year to Auckland in Premium Economy and I would say it was definitely worth it for that 16 hour journey with the increased leg room, on shorter routes such as Singapore I think you are still better off in economy as its not too long. EDIT: Also never take the last row in the middle of the premium economy cabin as all you hear is the banging and clanging in the galley all flight long.
I flew Premium Economy on Air New Zealand and it was a case of receiving an email and putting in a bid to upgrade to Premium Economy, I put in $100 and it was accepted a few days before my flight. I really liked it. The most entertaining part of the flight was when during meal service the girl sitting next to me stated she was vegan and the flight attendant offered her the chicken. I had a chuckle 😅
the best premium economy seat for leg room is on norse air, they have a seat pitch of 43 inches whilst most other airlines including Emirates has only 38 inch pitch, that with their silly low fares makes norse a winner. don't forget all travellers in economy & premium economy can buy lounge access separately on the net.
Hi Josh. I think from a revenue point. Airlines will add more and more Premium Economy cabins, as they can fit more seats into the space than Business. They will reduce Business Class seating. Then continue to increase the price of Premium Economy but offer a lesser service than Business. Through time, Business Class may be removed and the service in Premium improved, thus pushing the price up
I can't wait to see your Africa trip. I have just finished following Noel Philips travelling through Africa on the various airlines and look forward to seeing your reviews too along this route. Take care and fly safe.
Your second type of crew description is exactly what left a sour taste in our mouthes after our last Emirates experience in economy. Each leg had crew who just wanted to live in Dubai and see the world for free, not really interested in being customer focused.
It really depends on which airline you fly. The consensus of Premium Economy is better seats. Other facilities are dependent on airline themselves. I would love to have Premium Economy seats but not at double the price, 1.5x the Economy seat price is ideal.
100% agree on the cabin crew comment. Emirates business class crew are very inconsistent and Josh nailed it totally - some are amazing & others are bang average. It’s a shame they can’t deliver consistency but hopefully they’ll improve this as the hard product is great!
I saw a study recently which showed that airlines actually make the greatest profit margin from the Premium Economy passengers--big price increase while removing only a few seats. Also, airlines are squeezing the passengers because if you want to upgrade to Business class for miles, most airlines will only let you upgrade if you booked a PE fare, because they say that a single-class upgrade is only from PE to business, or Main Cabin to PE. That being said, with enough alcohol, I can sleep in a PE seat, which I really can't in a main cabin seat. Of course, if alcohol isn't included, that becomes somewhat problematic. I won't buy PE if alcohol isn't included. My usual airline is American Airlines, and they offer free alcohol not just in PE, but also in Main Cabin Extra (which is complimentary for Executive Platinum members such as myself). I guess if I wanted to fly to one of the Gulf states, I'd probably fly Qatar Airways (which I have), rather than Emirates, but from your review, I wouldn't consider flying PE in Emirates, since it doesn't seem worth the extra cost for what they provide. Thanks for the information.
I’m a big fan of premium economy. I have to agree, I think within the next 5 years an airline somewhere will start offering 2-3-2 or similar nearly lie flat premium economy. Similar to the old dense business class seats
I agree about the Emirates crew, and I would say your 70/30 split is the other way round. I always feel like an inconvenience to them. Etihad/SQ always have a nicer crew on my regular SYD/LHR trip.
I hate Qantas, and I love Emirates, but Emirates Premium Economy Sydney to LON is the same price as QANTAS business class for the same leg. As much as I love Emirates, I'd rather fly business class if I'm forking out the same dough.
Shouldn't be the case. Kangaroo route fares vary a lot depending on many factors. Try booking a selection of dates ...are EK's flights into STN or LGW priced similarly to LHR ?
@@alexmcwhirter6611 I usually book in January for Dec flights when all airlines have their deals on. This year I thought I'd save a bit of money and try Emirates new Premium Economy but found that that flight cost the same as Qantas Business class Sydney to Heathrow. I always fly into Heathrow for ease of getting into London after a very long flight. But I'm open to flying into Luton or Stansted.
@@Boababa-fn3mr Really??? I find the crew Syd to Singapore always so rude and not interested. But the UK crew are always fabulous on Qantas. However, on Emirates my experience is totally different, first class service no matter what port i'm boarding from.
Great video Josh ex emirates crew you’re spot on about the crew being either amazing or there for the lifestyle. For the most part the crew are warm and welcoming. Also depending on where they are from is how long they stay for example Australians usually do one contract (not always sometimes more sometimes less)
@@budapestflyer99 not a problem the ones who are there for the lifestyle can be good crew too! I mean living in Dubai tax free accomodation paid for travelling the world who doesn’t want that!! They take any complaint seriously from customers and the training is very in depth
Good review. For me PE is good on a long flight. I have used it on TPE to ORD and it is worth it. With EK as you said Business not worth it on 777 Regular economy very good. So it is all down to cost. In my opinion PE is what Economy used to be! As for crew good analysis. Its hit and miss with EK. Where as QR is consistently good (on long haul) Short hal around the Gulf area is a disaster.
I've flown the A380 once. I was impressed with the space in the economy toilets at the back. I was less impressed with the window views. It was like looking though a tunnel, the walls were so thick.
Premium Econ is basically evolving into business class from 20 years ago w/ regard to the hard product. That being said I’m not sure how the nomenclature has evolved to make this be considered a “premium economy” seat and how a “business class” seat is now what we’d use to call first class. Your friend might be onto something but I think they will just bring back the first class cabin and rebrand premium eco as business
40 years ago (not 20). Think back to when QF introduced the first biz class with a surcharge and a J fare designator at the start of the 1980s. Back then biz class was configured 2-4-2 on the 747's lower deck.
Compared to premium economy, I've found business class has a few extra ground perks, wider seats, reduced seats/bathroom ratio, free alcohol, better meal selection, lay-flat seats, and importantly.. the seats in business class have more privacy with partitions and doors. Premium economy has its place on flagship carriers like this. Would I pay $11,000 for business class on Emirates going from Miami to Dubai? NO! But I would pay $3000 to be treated like a human. And that's where premium economy comes in.
Right now Premium Economy tickets have the best ROI for airlines compared to all other cabins - the price hike relative to level of service you get is the most in their favor. Remember those "angled lie-flat seats" from business class 20 years ago? I can definitely see those making a comeback in PE if airlines can retrofit them cheaply. JAL really feels like it's gearing up to that - their new PE seat already looks exactly like that Business seat of 20 years ago.
@@seancatacombs Which I would not mind at all. I don't need a completely flat surface to sleep on and even the level of recline that I get in premium economy makes a huge difference in my comfort and ability to sleep on the flight. If they can give the angled lie-flat seats, that would be pretty ideal for me.
Flew Emirates PE from Dubai to Sydney and it was amazing. The only issue was that we could only access seat map/availability after choosing to purchase premium economy fare, we found that my husband and I could not sit together 😮 after boarding a passenger agreed to swap seats. A wonderful experience
@alexpage8505 I can only speak from my own experience. But in PE, I can actually sleep and my fear of flying doesn't kick in. Unlike what happens in the squeezed in, crowded and noisy Economy class. I take Finnair for all my Japan holidays and the price difference is tiny. For me personally having the extra space and a much smaller, quieter cabin, it's well worth to pay a couple hundred Euros more.
Love PE if the price is right. Often get it on Air Canada on North American flights using widebodies, at a good price at time of check-in. AC's is wonderful and leaps and bounds ahead of standard Y. Dedicated cabin, domestic business class seats, cocktail table, large IFE screen, meals on China almost on par with domestic business class, dedicated FA, bar trolley like domestic business class, complementary alcohol on domestic wide bodies served in the business class glassware, use of business class washrooms. Only gripe, no curtain between Y and Y+ hence Y passengers coming through our dedicated cabin and using our lavs, especially mom's with kids.
4:07 I’m not convinced Premium Economy will turn into a flat bed Josh, because that will just make it Business Class Lite. Then there won’t be much difference between Business & Premium , and that will possible cannibalise a business class seats…The most we can hope for is an angled lie- flat .
You mentioned that Emirates cabin crew are a 'mixed bag' , so to speak-- you're bang on there. 100%. The quality of their aircraft more than make up for some other aspects of their travel experience
Great video! While I appreciate the features of Emirates' premium economy, at the current price point, I don't think it's worth it. For just a little more, I'd rather go for business class and enjoy the added comfort and amenities. Emirates should either reconsider the pricing of premium economy or enhance the product itself to better justify the cost. As it stands, I would lean towards booking business class instead
as you said It's okay on a dayflight for maybe up to 8 h. Food looked tasty and nice, for the seat I have mixed feelings tough and there are better seats in premium eco. down side: No separate check in, no fast lane for security, no priority luggage I guess and no flat bed. I'd rather choose business class...
All depends on the price relativity. At most worth 50% more than Economy. And would need to be half the price of Business. Reality is an aircraft you pay for floorspace (which is the limiting factor). Agree that the food and other soft product is more like Business (similar to QF and SQ) whereas other airlines Premium is closer to Economy.
Flew Premium economy on A380 BA and it was much better than Emirates. Also flew Premium economy Virgin and that was same sort of lay out, stopped flying Emirates as it's a really long flight.
The argument about amenity kits, SQ have apparently said they are a waste of money for airlines. If you think about it, most of the contents can be purchased from your local store for a "dollar"........however, admittedly, im a fan of the actually small cases you receive some airlines provide
Gave up on Emirates when one cabin crew advised if I wanted a decent flight from UK to Dubai, to go to London rather than fly from a “provincial” UK airport. Nearly double the price BC vs other airlines and definitely not worth the additional price.
some free advice as ive ungraded a few times now since 2021years (from London to DXB) , if you want to get a discounted emirates business class seat book economy ticket first , wait until like 3-4 days before (or sometimes they usually send you an email to say you have been selected and offer you a far cheaper ticket usually when BC isn't full ) and upgrade on the app which usually on offer for between £500-1000 each as an upgrade. Where by if you buy a business class seat directly one way could cost between £2500-3500 depending on the time of year and route. Most economy tickets are roughly between £500-700 from London. (Only thing you’ll miss out on , if it’s an upgrade to BC is lounge access and chauffeur services)
Review was very interesting. I have been flying Emirate business to and from Australia for over 20 years. Always very pleased with it. Recently the meals seem to have had less choice. Personally I do not think amenity kits are needed. I have never used one and usually give them away as gifts. Always choose A380 if you can.
Pretty good review. Emirates is pretty much my airline of choice when I fly between Australia and Europe, as it allows me the occasional stopover in Dubai. And you're right, I'll also look for routes covered by the A380. It really was built for the passenger, while I believe the B787 was built for the airlines. My Emirates flights are consistently good - punctuality, comfort, cleanliness, crew, luggage - there's such a high level of reliability. Unfortunately I can't say that other airlines. Crew are usually pretty good. At worst, they JUST do their job efficiently and well. But your 70/30 rule isn't too far from the mark. 70% of the time, the crew member is friendly and attentive. I've just returned from a trip to Rome. On my Emirates flight from FCO to DXB I was in the very back row of economy, and even in a full flight, the crew member on my aisle took the time to welcome my by name when the meal service started. Such a simple gesture, but it means a lot, to me anyway. I would like to try Premium Economy, but when I've checked it out for my long routes, it's just been too expensive, especially when the economy seat on Emirates is still one of the best. But for a 14 hour flight between Dubai and Australia, that little bit of extra comfort would be in high demand so the airline can get away with the high prices.
Okay, worth the upgrade if you’ve never flown business before & especially if you’re flying long haul, like Melbourne > Dubai (14 hours). I flew premium a month ago, and it was very comfortable and the food was really good! If you can do it and business is out of reach, I would recommend 100000%
Agree with your statement about EK crew. I’ve been flying Emirates for well over a decade and there has definitely been a quality shift during that time. Back in 2010, almost all crews were amazing, now I’d say 30% are there to provide great service, 70% are there to party in Dubai and don’t care about the passengers they serve. It used to be that the crew would constantly walk the cabin to ensure people were comfortable, now you tend to find them grouped in the galley discussing which club they went to during the week, if you dare interrupt you become an inconvenience and are treated as such. As a result, EK as a product has been devalued significantly during my time travelling with them (I live in Dubai, so this is frequent). I’ve flown their Premium recently and it’s ok, but not outstanding, I actually prefer (shocked to even say this) the BA PE product.
I can't speak for premium economy on Emirates but I can compare their business class on a B777 to Singapore Airlines. I read everywhere the Emirates is the best. Not so in my experience with them. I flew from STN- CEB return in business class via Dubai. The seats were in a 2-3-2 configuration with angle lie flat beds. Comparing that to a similar flight on Singapore Airlines B777 in business class. SQ wins hands down. A 1-2-1 configuration on the LHR -SIN leg. The flight from SIN to CEB a 3.5 hour flight was in a B737MAX. There are only 10 seats in business on that aircraft, all lie flat beds. The price on both the airlines was similar, however the Singapore Airlines product far outweighed Emirates.
The thing with Emirates is, like you said, their regular economy is good, so I would rather use that and save the extra spending money for when I get to my destination. I just cant justify almost double the price for only in air perks of being on more comfortable seats and getting slightly better food.
I fly mainly with StarAlliance between North America and Europe, by default, I always aim to book Premium Economy, you enter the plane after Business, have space for your carry-on since less person, better food, more fidelity points for futur business ticket and for the price it's a great product.
That's what I was waiting for... as EK Gold member my preferences are 1. First, 2. Premium Eco, 3. Business and 4. Eco - honestly, catering got so bad in Business!
Being a frequent Emirate customer, I have had the opportunity to experience all four classes (first, business, premium and economy). I have been happy with all four and worth the money. Yes, depending on where you are flying to/from, premium economy could be just as expensive as business class, which makes no sense. In any case, still great service all around. Will always recommend Emirates.
My sister travels to Dubai all the time with my young nephew, she prefers Premium rather then Business because she can keep an eye on him, more then Business because the seats are not really next to each other with a row in between or a big middle unit.
At 1:45 : I had a separate check in for Premium Economy in Osaka and Dubai. Also you can board the plane right after business class. Also last row reclines a bit less than the other rows.
Being 5'11 1/2 or 183cm tall, I would pay extra for premium economy's extra legroom on a long-haul flight if I don't have the cash to shell out for business class. But I don't think it's enough of an upgrade over standard economy to be worth the money on a flight of less than 6-7 hours.
I used to fly Lufthansa from. Dubai to Frankfurt and paid about $100 per flight for extra legroom. I don't know know if they called it Premium Economy, but it was worth every penny.
I flew with Emirates for the first time this July and while I was in economy class, I did not expect such bad service. From headphones, blankets etc being taken 45 minutes before landing, demanding to take my tray while I was still eating (we received our meal last yet they wanted to collect our trays first) and twice I saw bread rolls dropped on the floor, picked up and given to a passenger. I usually fly Qatar but thought I'd try Emirates for a change, never again.
I flew Emirates for the first time last year from LGW TO HKT. Before flying I watched some reviews about how they good they are I found the crews on both flights hit and miss. On the first sector I asked for a drink and got snapped at but the person on the row in front of me they couldn't do enough for. The second sector passengers heard keep the cabin crew say keep the cabin warm hopefully passengers will sleep
For the most part, when I'm paying extra for premium economy is the seat and the added space. The service upgrades (such as they are) can be nice, but I'm primarily paying for my comfort. And when you can get it for a good price, it really does make sense. Especially for long haul flights. I'll never be able to afford business class and I'll never be able to justify paying the cost of a business class seat so premium economy for me is a good balance between an elevated experience and a price that doesn't make me cringe too hard.
I think al "premium" issue is big problem for the airlines and passangers. Take turkish airlines which tp have 3 classes but now have only bussiness and economy. It is much more easier to manage and cost saver for all
I personally don't think we need an amenity kit outside of business class. I get those amenity kits and give them away to my family as souvenirs. They are very nice (after all I paid for them) but when I think about the 13 hour flight I take to/from Dubai, they can just as easily give you a small disposable toothbrush or stock the bathroom with basic amenities. Japanese ANA stocked my last flight on ANA "The Room" business class with disposable toothbrush kits (on the plane and the lounge), towels, hand towels, liquid soap, shampoo and conditioner (in the lounge). To make this sustainable, you'd want to use bamboo and other easily grown materials. Emirates stocks the business class bathroom with some basics as well - and they stock the lounge. Do you really need an amenity kit? Thing is: if you get one, I'd prefer it say "EMIRATES BUSINESS CLASS" on it than just some designer name I don't recognize.
I like was EVA does for economy class. They have a supply of sleep masks, dental hygiene kits and other essentials in the bathrooms and you can take what you need. There's a lot less waste in unused products. Having said that, I do love getting an amenity kit.
I fly frequently usually in business. I’ve stopped opening the amenity kit and leave it onboard. The SA practice of offering the items separately is sensible. The moisturizers are good and maybe the eye mask but otherwise I don’t use the other contents.
I fly every year for holidays to Japan and for me Finnair Premium Economy is worth the price. So far every flight I have taken in Premium Economy i was basically sleeping 85% of the flight. Something I never managed in Economy. The price gap on Finnair between the two classes is also not that massive, so it makes it a much easier choice. I also dislike flying, so the much smaller and quieter cabin does help with my fear of flying.
When there's a good deal to be purchased, it doesnt' matter is it economy, premium economy, business or even first class. It's a good deal. Personally, I fly EK and *A a lot, with top tier statuses in both Emirates and United. Would I put $2K for Premium Economy seat from Dubai to San Francisco? Yes. Would I rather pay $3K if there's a business class option on the same route? Yes, in a heartbeat. It is a middle of the road product, and one thing that always makes me happy personally - is the service received onboard. For example, for as long as I remember, I bring gifts for the crew on board, 99% of the time it's chocolate. I do not expect anything in return but to show gratitude to the crew that always works hard and rarely receives praise. Keep up the good work and maybe see each other on one of the flights.
I have been a Skywards Gold member and have flown with Emirates regularly since relocating to Dubai in 2017. Unfortunately, you're quite right about the crew. In my experience, the most polite and proactive members tend to be from the Far East and South Asia, certainly fitting into the commendable 70% you mentioned. As a Brit, I’ve noticed that the crew from the UK and Australia often seem less engaged in their work, and many would fall into the remaining 30%. Of course, this is not a sweeping generalisation, as some are indeed hospitable and proactive, but a significant number, particularly those under 30, seem indifferent. I frequently chat with the UK-based flight attendants, and many admit they are with Emirates for only a few years, primarily to earn some money and explore the world. Regarding Premium Economy on the A380, it occasionally costs as much as flying Business Class on the B777, but even so, it’s a pleasant addition overall.
Flew Dubai to Sydney 14 hours and was very unimpressed. The Food was inedible . And they ran out of food. We had better service, food and experience in Economy on the Paris to Dubai leg (we were downgraded from PE). Now the business class from Sydney to London was exceptional. Never paying for PE again.
I feel the lack of coffee service after the meal is typical among premium economy products. They always come out with a drinks service after take off, the meal comes and afterward they disappear. They will bring you whatever but you actually have to call them and ask for it, almost to make you feel bad or something. Is one consistent difference between premium and biz in my opinion.
Not on Austrian Airlines. Our flight crew was very attentive and we were plied with beverages throughout the entire flight. And if on the very off chance that I wanted something when the crew wasn't available (taking a sleep break for example), I have no trouble walking back to the galley to get a drink or snack. I think in the case of Emirates, which is billed as a luxury carrier, the little cuts in service are especially noticeable and vexing..
I have traveled many times on AF premium cabin to several destinations over the years, I still find it one of the best from priority service at the airport to cabin service. The only thing I didn’t like on a recent trip is the new seats on the A359 no more hard shell, so anyone can recline in front of you and the meal tray became smaller. Another airline is very good on PE is LOT although outdated seats and poor flight entertainments, however service onboard is excellent and food catering perfect with great portions, I tried them on a 12hr trip
I usually fly business with my employer, but I was recently downgraded to premium economy with compensated upgrades to business , and honestly I cant complain really, it is great flying emirates premium economy ngl , though I will say that the business seat is far superior imo, but the price is cheaper so there is that , but for premium economy compared with other similar products is far superior ngl
The A380 is still the nicest airplane, specially in Eco. I always loved the food on EK. On EK or QR I always feel, because the crew coming from so many different countries, bringing in many different service cultures and characters, the service quality is not as smooth presented. But I love Emirates, looking forward to the A350, hope to get it to Jakarta, knstead of these old noisy B777s.
I’ve flown SAS premium economy numerous times on the route from CPH to SFO. I’m a tall traveler (2 meter) and my company is cheap. For me premium is a great compromise that gets me some comfort at a price the company is willing to pay. SAS premium is pretty good in my opinion. I’ve also flown BA premium long haul on a 787 and found to great. Air Canada has a nice premium economy given a dedicated business class toilet to use.
I am in my 70s not very tall so my younger days was spent on economy class ( no issues) now i take premium economy just for a bit more comfort . Food never bothered me so that’s not an issue. I just can’t justify paying for business and first class . The day I need to sleep on a flat bed whilst flying is the day I stop flying.
Hi Josh a good review as always but the difference between Businesss and Premium on Emirates from NZ is huge. In May I paid about NZ$5500 roundtrip AKL to LON in Premium whereas Business would have been between NZD9000 and NZ$11000. Definitely worth saving for a, I need less hassle when flying long haul these days. I have also used Air NZ and United Premium via the US to the UK and Qantas on a shorter trip to AKL SYD HKG. Air NZ by far the best, Premium Checkin at AKL, amazing food, wine and crew service, more legroom than all the others 104-106cms, great headphones. Review Air NZ Premium long haul sometimes :)
all depends how much you want or can spend for a ticket - I compared economy /premium and business class and you pay for what you get - Emirates products are very good
Flew PE on China Eastern and it was fine but on the a350 it is 2-4-2 and on the 787 it was 2-3-2, thus a wider seat on the Dreamliner. Last row of PE does not recline fully. As the flight was only half full I retreated back to Economy for 4 hours and got a sleep on three vacant seats - go figure.
Despite its drawbacks, I always find myself going back to flying Emirates because there's a level of consistency you get with them. Even on their "worst" days, the experience is much better than most other airlines.
Agreed. I’m Platinum on Emirates and Qatar, and Emirates are remarkably consistent. They only badly let me down with the rainstorm earlier this year, but given that was once out of hundreds of flights with them, and freak event, I let it slide. Qatar is great in its day, but far less consistent. In business alone they have something like eight different seats 😂. On-ground customer service isn’t great, even for normal stuff.
@@krissyv2046I agree with you. We’ve flown twice to the Seychelles with them and both times had horrendous problems. They really didn’t care. Dubai airport was also appalling. Never again for either of them!!
Premium Economy tends to be a great choice, so absolutely no reason to be arrogant about it... The problem with it is normally neither the hard or the soft product, but it being overpriced.
Premium economy a waste of money? Depends on what airline you’re flying with and what their premium economy offers. But looking at some of those fares, you’d be better off just sticking with economy.
I have flown SYD to LHR via DXB on Premium Economy on EK. Overall I really liked it, my main criticism is that if your tall like me (6'4) the foot rest pushes your knees up and the position for sleeping isn't the best
Would I pay for it? Maybe. It's a tough call, I'd rather be in economy with nobody next to me than in premium economy with someone next to me. I'd like a nicer seat and a bit more space for sure. If I need to sleep on the flight it's far more likely I'd choose premium economy over economy as well.
Business class on A380 is the best with 121 configuration on 777 so far only1 has the A380 layout so far. Not tried premium economy heard seats go back so far it’s inhibiting.
I’m flying Emirates Premium Economy on a A380 London to Dubai in February and the flights are a third of the price compared to flying Business, so a lot more affordable for us. Can’t wait!
Weight of wet (water 1.0 litre weight per 1 Kg) to dry towels for fuel over 1000's of flights a consideration, remember the UnAirl cutting strawberries in half saving $750K/ annum in fuel
Angled lie-flat seats surely don't take up much more space than these but would provide an actual reason to book premium economy. As a normal sized person economy works fine for me, I usually even enjoy the food. The reason to book business class is to sleep well, which I can't do even on the ground regardless of how comfortable the recliner is.
I think it also depends on your height and weight. I'm 6'4 and 250 lbs. I'm not sure if I would be willing to pay that extra money for premium economy. I would rather just pay extra for the exit row seats. Premium economy don't offer priority boarding and other perks. I think I will treat myself to business. Business Class from the Philippines going to JFK, I'm offered chauffeur service and the Dubai experience if my layover in Dubai is 8 hours or more.
Maybe it's just the screengrab he used, but except for Singapore to Dubai, the prices from prem econ to business are more than double and not sure how you get off saying that it's "not much cheaper" than a business class flight. Where I live, m ore than double is actually real money.
Great video once again Josh! I haven’t flown Emirates just yet but hoping to soon! I’ve been trying to do some reviews myself and I’ve gained inspiration from both you and Noel and even go with just a GoPro (or DJI for Noel). I also agree, as far as long haul flights go or big planes, I 100% will take the A380 everytime! Love the videos as always! Much love from Australia! (U.S. Citizen originally)
Hi Josh, Great Video as always, Before I write my comment I want to put a disclaimer forward, Please note my Comment is my opinion, it doesn't have anything to do with Emirates group, I am writing on my own free will, thank you. Ok I wouldn't use the word Waste of money, Oh no no no, I view it like this, Emirates has Economy and premium Economy, there has to be a distinction between the two, people are free and know what they want and some people want a little bit more so Premium Economy is just Perfect, so really it comes down to what you want, both products are great in their own regard and in my opinion Emirates products are so so much better than some other airline products, I think it's amongst the best products in the sky today. So if it was me and I had the cash yeah, I will go for it hands down, no need to ask me twice, I'm there. I agree 100% with you regarding the A380, it's basically one of the many reasons it's my favourite Aircraft today. I'll be taking one soon can't wait, I ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ the A380 and I ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Emirates
I flew from London Heathrow to Sydney on Premium economy in 2022. It was an a380 for both legs. My seats were on the aisle in the row of 4 behind the bulkhead (stairs up) and close to the toilet. Both seats gave me loads of legroom but my only gripe was I was too close to the toilets, so there was often a queue of people waiting to use the loo...and people constantly brushing past me. On the 2nd leg, I was sat next to a drunk guy who tried to steal my phone. I actually complained to the crew as this guy was getting more and more intoxicated and became very annoying after just a few hours. As my seat had no one in front, my screen was located in the arm so I couldn't lift the arm out of the way. From what I recall, the food was nice enough. Despite the extra leg room, it's still economy. I don't think it's worth it and frankly, next time I fly with Emirates, I'll pay for the upgrade and fly Business. That way, I have my own space and a lie flat bed. I don't know about anyone else but I struggle to sleep in a sitting position so having a lie flat bed is paramount for me getting at least a few hours proper sleep, especially for such a long haul flight such as this. And I just remembered, that immediately behind was a screaming child. So with that in mind, it's Business all the way.
The a380 business class flat bed window seat with a pub at the rear of the plane is the b0llox. Give me that every time please. Although, emirates have got a bit pricey these days, with the business class. 700€ economy to Shanghai or 3200€ business. thats a big step up.
I don't think we'll see true bed seats in Premium Economy, more likely a comeback of those "angled lie-flat seats" from Business Class in the 2000s. JAL might be the ones to pioneer this. Their Premium Economy already has hardshell seats reminiscent of those old school Business cabins.
Do you think Premium Economy is a waste of money or a great alternative? Let me know in the comments below :)
I find it quite pricey tbh... not sure whether I would enjoy it.
@@budapestflyer99agreed , if they’re going to charge that price they should decrease the number of seats to allow for more room…
It sure is nicer than regular cattle. But I want to be able to elevate my legs, so it's not my thing, unless it's a short flight.
They should atleast remove 2/3 rows to allow for the full recline to be conveniently used.
Premium economy is really needed particularly for long haul for older people in their 60s and 70s, who have no hope of affording business class
@@subby788 I fall in to that age group and totally agree
The problem with most premium economies is that the arm rests are fixed. Sometimes; on a quieter flight; you’re better in economy because if you get two to three seats to yourself you can lay down; whereas in premium economy even if you have a row to yourself you can’t move armrests and lay down.
So true. From my experience.
Very very true. Even extra legroom seats on Ryanair / Easyjet have this problem too. Makes them feel claustrophobic.
The problem is that you have to hope that the row is empty.
As emirates crew myself, spot on with what you said at 10:54 unfortunately thats how it is. Great video though, keep it up Josh…
Japan Airlines premium much better…..42 inch seat pitch, shell back seats so nobody can recline back on you, lounge access etc.
True. But JAL and Emirates aren’t competitors so Emirates won’t be bothered.
Emirates has better food and ife and wayy less price. Jal is hella expensive
The catering on JAL is the same as economy however they do serve champagne! At 42 inches their legroom is 4 inches more than Emirates (and virtually everyone else). Also JAL provides lounge access which in Tokyo is fantastic
@ ek legroom is 40, so 2 inches.
If I hadn’t sought advice, I doubt I’d be as confident in my plan right now
I’m trying to figure out the best approach for my portfolio. How did you find your advisor? I feel like I need that kind of guidance
I usually steer clear of recommending specific people because financial needs are so personal. But I can say that working with Emily Ava Milligan has made a world of difference for me. I noticed her strategies are tailored to fit personal goals and make sense for different needs. It might be worth exploring to see if her approach resonates with you
Thanks for that. I did a quick search and found her page. I was able to email so I sent over a few questions to get more info. Appreciate you sharing
@@Joe900-px3ntgmI went with J.R. Hartley and I now have £6m. I can now eat 2 meals per day.
I just love A380 and for that reason only, I keep going back to Emirates.
the best premium economy seat for leg room is on norse air, they have a seat pitch of 43 inches whilst most other airlines including Emirates has only 38 inch pitch, that with their silly low fares makes norse a winner. don't forget all travellers in economy & premium economy can buy lounge access separately on the net.
I flew on Premium Economy with EVA AIR to Bangkok a month ago from Heathrow and it was awesome!
I agree about the Emirates crew, and I would say your 70/30 split is the other way round. I always feel like an inconvenience to them. Etihad/SQ always have a nicer crew on my regular SYD/LHR trip.
You can often get it for reasonably cheap (bidding for upgrades often works on Lufthansa) and there I would say it's worth it.
@@betelgeuse111 Ouch. Give me Qantas over EK any day.
@betelgeuse111 It's not just the attitude of the cabin crew I'm worried about, and I'm not hating on EK either. QF sucks in some ways too
Great video Josh ex emirates crew you’re spot on about the crew being either amazing or there for the lifestyle. For the most part the crew are warm and welcoming. Also depending on where they are from is how long they stay for example Australians usually do one contract (not always sometimes more sometimes less)
Interesting - is that a problem among crew members too? Does it get addressed?
@@budapestflyer99 not a problem the ones who are there for the lifestyle can be good crew too! I mean living in Dubai tax free accomodation paid for travelling the world who doesn’t want that!! They take any complaint seriously from customers and the training is very in depth
From what I can tell Emirates crew members mostly care about posting on their instagram accounts trying to become influencers
@@Yantrus sorry not all
Good review.
Premium economy might be the happy medium; enough comfort without the extravagance and prices of Business / First Class
It’s not, it sucks and stop deluding yourself LOL
Imo the hard product is basically what business class used to be 20-30 years ago tho
@@cidiracing7481if that works for you then great!
I think PE is perfect for a long day flight. Business for overnight.
Wow, Josh, you actually want to fly Air Peace again? Youre braver than I thought! Good luck with that!
Agreed. Every time I fly on Emirates I experience the same. Either your crew is world class or not bothered at all.
@budapestflyer99 it is up to the people man not the airline
Great video! While I appreciate the features of Emirates' premium economy, at the current price point, I don't think it's worth it. For just a little more, I'd rather go for business class and enjoy the added comfort and amenities. Emirates should either reconsider the pricing of premium economy or enhance the product itself to better justify the cost. As it stands, I would lean towards booking business class instead
Agreed and they should reconsider their seat configuration!
as you said It's okay on a dayflight for maybe up to 8 h.
Yeah I’ll go for PE at the right price.
Depending on the airline, virgin premium economy is great, BA not so great.
I fly mainly with StarAlliance between North America and Europe, by default, I always aim to book Premium Economy, you enter the plane after Business, have space for your carry-on since less person, better food, more fidelity points for futur business ticket and for the price it's a great product.
Josh cahill should do Qantas next ❤its been a while.
Huge fan of premium economy!!!!!
Love the videos! Keep on flyin!
WOW! Not a good look honestly.... Maybe it was just a bad day really, they're usually better
@@Godsent_Gabriel999it was 4 flights in total. Two mid July and two at the beginning of August. So they must have had a bad 4 days.
Great video Josh. Thanks for the insight.
@@SamuelDarcyPalmer Again, I give them to my family as souvenirs. Women love them. I usually get 2 at a time. One to my mom. One to my sis.
Josh thank you you did a great job 😊
Review Air NZ Premium long haul sometimes :)
all depends how much you want or can spend for a ticket - I compared economy /premium and business class and you pay for what you get - Emirates products are very good
you do get priority check in for premium economy at selected airports.
Never tried Emirates Premium Economy. I think I'm going to give it a try.
I love A380 and Emirates offer best economy class product in A380. The premium economy cabin looks very chic
Can’t wait!
looks pretty decent for Y+, but also because low load in this class on this flight guess.
Weight of wet (water 1.0 litre weight per 1 Kg) to dry towels for fuel over 1000's of flights a consideration, remember the UnAirl cutting strawberries in half saving $750K/ annum in fuel
Premium economy is ideal, Great! To me. First class not required in future
I think premium economy would be great if I didn’t cost almost as much as business 😊
Thanks for the review!
The a380 business class flat bed window seat with a pub at the rear of the plane
is the b0llox.
