Hey guys, I hope you like this weeks video! Have you conquered your flash yet? If yes, what do you love most about shooting with it and if it's a no, what do you struggle with the most?
Unfortunately I have no clue what I'm doing with my Godox V1 Flash, and now I need to reset it. SMH...not sure what I did, and why I even bought it, knowing I didn't understand the lighting aspect of an external flash. How do I reset it back to TTL? Please help.
@@danielleburks4436 Hi Danielle, sorry to hear you are struggling with it, sounds like its the setting up/pairing of it that is not working for you? I had to fiddle a bit with it too but I found a few turorials that got me started. You reset it by pressing the two middle buttons under the screen at the same time. I might make a tutorial on setting up and pairing it with a trigger soon.
@@stinejensen_photo Thank you. I had finally found a video in reference to my question. Lol....my patience was getting the best of me. I appreciate you responding to me.
Thank you fro this, this was so helpful, I just bought a Godox V1 and from watching your video just realised I needed the trigger too, so now I can't wait for it to arrive so I can play around with it!
It's currently winter here in Canada so there isn't that much light atm. However, I have been using flashes a lot. Both on camera and off camera. This video is amazing and so helpful when it comes to shooting in really bright days! And in a couple more months it will be spring and summer here in Canada and this video definitely helps once the bright natural light is back!
Helpful video! I have learned a lot over the years about photography. I am an artist and I share my painting demos and studio visits here. So much to see and hear on TH-cam. Have a great day!
Hey 🙂 great video! When you expose for the background or shadows you are just locking in a focus point there yes? But how do you then make sure your subject is in focus if shooting wide if they aren’t the focus point?
Great video! Doing a lot with so little! Shows you don't need all the photo gears in the world to take great pictures. Just work with what you've got but more importantly, understand how to use what you have in different situations.
Thanks so much for this helpful video, it was exactly what i was looking for with the V1. I like how you just used the dome modifier. Easy setup and very helpful on a windy day. What are your thoughts on using a shoot through umbrella or softbox for these lighting conditions? I’m trying to get better with ocf to be able to shoot confidently at different times of the day and to get a tiny bit of light on my subject when shooting backlit. Thank you!
Hey T! So happy to hear you found it helpful :) You can totally pair the V1 with a shoot through umbrella/soft box with this setup and the lighting conditions - you will get a larger light source and a lot softer if you keep close to your model. Just make sure you weigh your light down or have someone to hold it for you on windy days. Happy shooting! Sx 😃
Thank you for getting back to me, I did use it with only the done diffusor and added the bounce card to bounce more light down. I’m really happy with the results. There are some shadows under the neck that I’ll will soften but not having a light that will take off in the wind is great. I do have 5lb rice bags but i didn’t have to lug them around!! Thanks again!!
Lovely video. What I needed to see wrt the v1. I would like to know how this compares to the godox AD 200. Also which light stand do you use for the V1?
Thanks so much and I'm really glad you liked it :) You can use any light stand, just use the little "platform" it comes with it. You can screw that on as long as the stand has a screw at the top. No idea about the AD200 sorry!
Great video... But I've had nothing but issues with this flash. When it works it's great, but I never know if it will fire. It was great the first few times I used it, but has gotten so inconsistent. Such a bummer. I used it tonight and tried all my tricks and it would fire, then it wouldn't. 😭
Hey! Sorry to hear that, I've heard of others having the same issues. Do you know if it's a channel/connection with trigger issue? Could you take it back to the place you purchased? I know that sometimes "batches" of things can be faulty and the manufacturer will only know if we bring things back. It definitely sounds like a factory fault, let me know how you go. Sx
I have the same trigger and I set it to H for high speed sync, but do I have to do something in my V1 flash? Cause as soon as a raise the speed beyond 250 camera isn't capturing the flash. PLEASE HELP
Oh that's very strange. Can you share a bit more about what your other settings are? Is the flash still firing? What kind of lighting conditions are you shooting in etc? It's really hard for me to know what's going on without more information but I'd love to try and help :)
@@shannonmihalyi8163 You are welcome! Its just a very cheap regular light stand from Ebay. I got it 10 years ago in a continous light kit but you can get them by themselves as well. Hope that helps :)
Use manual. compose the photo without flash and set aperture/shutter speed as needed until you're happy with the background (since the flash will only illuminate the subject). Then set an arbitrary flash power (say 1/16 ~ 1/4) and view the results, adjust as necessary. I've found this last step easier and easier as I've gained experience.
haha I hear that a fair bit. I've never been one to follow trends ;) You use high speed sync on your flash/strobe to override your cameras shutter speed.
I like this video.. and it is very helpful.. but when you take a picture... Post the picture.. right after.. so we can see.. at the same pose/picture you shoot it...
If you mean to make sure you are not blowing them out, You can always bring up your histogram on your camera to check. And if you try to avoid a big difference in exposure in your image, you will be fine. Sx
I'm using the little "stand" that comes with the flash (sorry not sure what it's called, little plastic thing to mount the flash on) which has a whole in the bottom so I can screw it on the stand. The stand is just a cheap light stand from Ebay.
Hi! Im just using a standard, cheap light stand. I think I got it from Ebay about 10 years ago. The flash is attached with the little black shoe it comes with. Hope that helps?
Settings really depends on what I want to achieve and the lighting conditions. I mostly shot around f2.8 and for me to do that, I had to have my shutter at 1/2000 to reduce the amount of light, which is why I needed to shoot in HSS. High Speed Sync just allows us to increase the shutter speed above 180/200 (that number depends on the camera make and model). ISO was 100. I hope that helps a little bit, it sure is a big learning curve. Sx

How do set high speed sync with the trigger... I'm using x2T
when you said the flash is at 1/8th of a second....did you mean 1/8th power?
yes! But the power output depends on available light so make sure you experiment and see what you prefer
Stine can you do a video on how to check for highlights? I don't do that and I know I need to but where to start?
If you mean to make sure you are not blowing them out, You can always bring up your histogram on your camera to check. And if you try to avoid a big difference in exposure in your image, you will be fine. Sx

Does high speed sync really work with Sony and godox flash and trigger?
Absolutely. You just need to make sure your Godox flash and trigger is for Sony
Thanks!
Welcome!
What was the power of your flash?

Woo! Thanks so much for the sub! So glad you enjoyed the video :) Sx
I am looking how to have connection between my camera and Godox flash if is not mounted on the camera ?
you need a flash trigger that will trigger the flash for you. I use a Godox one that is then paired with the flash unit☺️

Hey sorry for the late reply. I will make a video about this (even though I'm far from a technical photographer) and tag you in it!
So I just need to buy a transmitter to use the godox light independantlg
that is correct :)
Hi Stine, what stand are you using to hold the flash?
Hi! Im just using a standard, cheap light stand. I think I got it from Ebay about 10 years ago. The flash is attached with the little black shoe it comes with. Hope that helps?
Be careful for the direct sunlight on v1. The lcd screen may heat up and blackout for good.
Thanks for the feedback!
shouldn't you gel the flash instead of fixing it in photoshop?
there is no fixing anything in PS. All I do is colour grade with my presets.
but what are your camera settings? I'm till confused...
Sx
Your first show was 1/8th of a second??? Did you mean 1/8th power?
@@graxxor hahaha yes I think thats what I meant 😂

you go for it!
I'm sorry, you need o work on your editing skills, check how he highlights are blown and colors of clothes washed out.
thats kind of funny.
It's 1/8th power, not shutter speed!
sorry?
