As the sole survivor and last child of a family of 5, who took to the sea similar to your family, during the 1960s and 70s, I can't tell you how lucky I feel to have had such a special youth. I am 51 and I feel like I am losing my mind. I am tired of living this so called life. Work, living in Wisconsin, Cold and essentially unhappy. My body is breaking down and I hurt so much during the winter. I envy everyone who has been able to escape on the sea, but I am unable to pull the trigger myself. My wife is not a fan of the water and I just feel like I am going to die one day and never live my dream. I am grateful for all of you sharing your ocean lives with us. Its not living it myself, but it helps. THANK YOU!!
Hey don't say like that... there's always a solution. In My opinion you should move to Florida/Hawaii and buy a nice cottage in a town with waterfront view..and live off your retirement income and enjoy your life the fullest way possible maybe buy a small motorboat it would be much better. Just go for it There is only one life you got. Everything is possible. Believe in yourself. Best of luck 👍
My husband and I sold our house and are now living full time in a small motorhome (I think they are called RV in the US). At the moment we are in Sweden escaping all the coronavirus restrictions elsewhere in Europe. I just love this carefree lifestyle and I doubt we'll have a house again. So perhaps this is something your wife could be interested in? Btw we are almost your age, 48 and 49.

My first boat was bought with the help of Ms Lyra Holt Dean. Sailing is thousands of years old and we continue this long-lasting, intriguing and at the same time dangerous tradition! Throughout history sailing has helped various civilizations to develop and prosper as people sailed accross oceans to settle in new undiscovered areas. Each time we set a sail it’s as if you could feel the same excitement, uncertainty and craving for adventure as it used to be thousands of years ago. In a way sailing is like a bridge connecting us with times long lost.
Kieth, I wanted to thank you for being a mentor. I decided to start fasting after watching your comments about how you lost your weight three weeks ago. I just got my Amazon order in fro 6 pairs of compression socks to prevent my legs from swelling. As I was about to put on my 1st pair, I fast. it has been 22 days without any food now and I feel better than I have in years, swelling in my legs, my gout, and arthritis are gone! my skin looks 5 years younger and I have lost 40lbs so far! I can't tell you how grateful I am. Your strength has added 10 years to my life! May all your days blessed with sunshine and smiles :) Tom

If I want to take the first step into this kind of off grid lifestyle I need to equip myself with the basic survival skills and knowledge to sustain this kind of life. Honestly not everyone is cutout to be living the off grid lifestyle!! And its true once age catches up with all of us we need to settle down somewhere accessible and permanent!!
He said that so nonchalantly, I thought he was serious until seeing this comment 😆. Even after watching that a couple more times I could not tell he was joking lol
Complexity. Keith is a master of mastering complex systems. That is highly admirable and a rare skill among humans. Most of us come from families that approach life with a high degree of fear, and that keeps us stuck in ruts. And the longer we stay in those ruts the sicker we become. Making a decision to exit a big rut is a major thing, and once done it shows us the way to create our own life circumstances. Of course the element of luck also has its place in the mix. In my case I wanted immersion experiences among indigenous people living n the amazonian rainforest, and in my fifties I realized that. Everyone will have their own way of realizing their dream of escaping routine predictable living.
I've been watching a couple videos a week for a while. Almost caught up. Love your story and adventures. You've inspired my wife and I, everything we're doing now is geared to getting us to this lifestyle.
Keith - Perhaps you were always a sailor but never realized it until that moment. Consider yourself fortunate to have had that moment of clarity. It could have completely passed you by in this life. I bet one day you will be ready to return to land, but the memories will always be with you. I'm getting too old to sail any more. I don't trust my judgement any more and have loss strength in my hands. Soak all it up and, be thankful for each moment under sail, and thankful for your wife & First Mate. Very best regards.

I thank you for sharing your family with us people who love your adventure! This channel got me thru a very dark time when my mom passed in February from Covid. Thank you and be safe!
Yeh, it's been frustrating with my kids' friends and their parents. It got to the point where at every school event it was just the Moms talking about their work. and everyone was on their phones. and I had this weird feeling. I started hating going to school events. My daughter is now graduating (with no ceremony). We feel that we need to move. I hate to say it but around here there kind of snobbish. While they're sad about graduating, my daughter and i are like-we need something different. So I can understand that feeling of wanting something different.

I always wondered sitting here with my life at the moment, i work 7am to 6:30-7 at night, single dad, barely enough time to wash cloths and make kids dinner before falling asleep... i work so damn hard everyday and struggle to make it. How do people make it for themselves like this? How did they afford school? do they have family that help them build credit, pay for school? Wish I had done whatever this man did to make his family so secure. Hats off to you sir! One day I would like to buy a boat I Can afford to fix up and do the same! Inspiration !!!!!!!!!
This is a TH-cam channel i didn't know i needed♥️
I find it extremely profound how you started your adventure from being inspired by someone else. You too inspire myself and my family to pursue the same lifestyle. We will meet you on the water, we just need a boat...?!
"Never having sailed!" I guess my limited experience is no longer an excuse!

I love what he said, and I respect him for saying it. He said he was miserable chasing money because it is unfulfilling. I've never been motivated by money, and I'm happy and at peace.
First time viewer and am impressed. It is so great you take your kids out of the crooked government lead school system. The hating, the profiling, bully.
Yes yes. Morning coffee with the zatara squad
and afternoon tea here in the UK!
There's only one thing more beautiful than your yacht. It's your family. God bless you
I love everything that you guys make! You’re such a fantastic family. And you’re so fortunate. Stay safe look forward to watching your family make it across the water again and share your adventures! Grandma Rita
This is great to see some southern folk in nature on the water ...I like it
Love the “ Wilson “ ball in the cockpit, and the ode to “ stepbrothers”
“ so much more room for activities “
I’d say moving to New Zealand and living on a catamaran was a wise choice given the current state of the world.
yep the only place that has 1 infection as of today and to think that Zatara scoffed a little bit at their( New Zealand's) reaction/approach to the pandemic.
When us kiwis do something, we just do it.
I can assure you The country I live in is worse.
@@tesoro7788 There is a "slight" possibility that the fact that it was summer in New Zealand during the pandemic, played a huge role for that outcome. You know, vitamin D that our bodies make with sun's help...

Wow, I fou d your channel a week ago and I love it so much! The time, patience and dedication that you put into your videos clearly shine through, and it’s a pleasure to watch your journey. Keep sailing !❤️❤️❤️
My husband has been talkin about buying a boat and sailing for years now.. and I never really took him seriously! But after watching you guys..I cannot wait to do this and now it's a reality for me in my mind as well! We are homeschool family too and I love to see how you guys homeschool on your boat! I can't even be consistent with school in our house let alone on a boat!!! Renee ..you are beyond amazing!!
You live the life that most of us can only dream of. A life of complete freedom. Your children will grow up with a real understanding of the world and it's culture's. A rich and rewarding way of life
Every time I watch this I get chills thinking/wishing/ hoping that someday we can do this too. Sooo inspiring! Thanks for sharing your life with the world! 😍
I finish watching all your video guys....luv it
I love both sailing lavagabonde and sailing zatara both amazing channels and people!!! Keep Up The Good Work 💪💪
I believe the magic is in the love (to one another in your family) and it shows quite well on this channel.
These adventures are so priceless. Father of two very young kids, and I dream of going on these adventures with the whole family! Can't wait!
YA HO!!! My husband and I did the same thing. We;ve been living on our boat for 3 yrs now and we're loving. We gave up everything and got onto the boat with nothing but the close on our backs. We travel around Vancouver Island. Good for you 2
Love hearing your story. Inspiring. My brother bought a boat when he was in his early 20s, a 7 person rec boat, for skiing and tubing. When he was 25 he Bought a bigger boat, a 11 person, and named it “Quarter Life Crisis”. Lol
I know that feeling of "There's got to more to life than the rat race, likes, and money". VERY INSPIRING.
The boat is 10 times bigger than many condos or appartements I lived in.
And it's got really smart extra space solutions which u don't get in an apartment. I wish we did
Lol and cost about the same with no taxes, hoa fees, fones, assessment, annoying neighbors, amazing.
Question. Can you carry a gun, shotgun?
@@simplyhandy2769 Depends on where you are from and what flag you are flying. If you fly a US flag you have to follow US gun laws while in international waters. It’s different if you plan on docking in a different country or even different state. But pretty much anywhere in the USA you can have a shotgun so yes. You’ll need to look at other countries laws if you’re going elsewhere a lot of countries just make you check them in and they are sealed on your boat.
I can't believe everyone has their own bathrooms on the boat! That takes up a lot of space and most houses don't have that many! They could use space better, but they have a great boating lifestyle! Glade they shared this!
7:06 I wish I had a scuba compressor since I have to drive about 30min to the closest one! Also this is like the perfect catamaran sailboat for my life needs!
Thanks for the tour! Thanks for your service, Sir. What a great family / adventure / home!
Oh my gosh. Keith is so damn funny. I loved the part about Harvard Med. Keep it coming, you made me smile.

don't forget the time he was in the navy seal too. He was acing exams with one hand while shooting down bad guys with the other hand, simultaneously.
"The master head, It's got a big wide toilet. Keith is the only one who uses it." OMG, laughed so hard. We all know what she meant but it just didn't come out that way. LOL. Lover you guys so hard. Priceless.
I just recently started watching you guys and I love these videos!!! I sail as well but on a Sunfish Sailboat which is small but I love sailing. Your videos are wonderful and I would love to do what you guys do one day.

It's really amazing to see how your story has turned out so far. I remember watching your first video. And it blows me away to see how much fun your family is still having.
I so feel this. I grew up in a nautical town, and the sea is in my blood. Would love to do this.
Inspiring family journey! Keep up the fantastic feed guys.
You say your circle of influence is just with each other ??? yet, you have influenced thousands of people to make a change in life to really live. I thank you guys
Hey guys, what ever it is but the thing is you guys are actually living the life because we are all just starving for money every day forgot to learn about living.
It's the most precious thing in the world to have with anyone that you are living the life with your family, this cannot be buyed by anything,, you build it, so love your videos guy's
Love you all💖
My first boat was bought with the help of Ms Lyra Holt Dean.
May all your days blessed with sunshine and smiles :)
Tom

Hi, that was the best episode yet! You guys look great! I have done the tour of other boats lately and yours was the best! Great tour, beautiful boat, beautiful family! Btw, I enjoyed the teen show. You guys are truly an inspiration to get out there and live my dream of sailing. Look forward to seeing you out there! Much love! ♥️
Massive respect for deciding to do this mid-life knowing nothing going in. Didn’t have purpose so you created it. Very inspiring :)
You folks are so fortunate. You imagined your life and made it happen.
Wow Keith, a doctor and a navy seal? We had no idea!
HE WAS JOKING LOL
@@alhaymonjr4110 lol yea I know...
@Craig Hondo Wow! Your resume is quite an inspiration .... if we could just be younger again, you'd certainly be someone to emulate
He said that so nonchalantly, I thought he was serious until seeing this comment 😆. Even after watching that a couple more times I could not tell he was joking lol
@Craig Hondo Well said! Laugh and the world will laugh with you...
Tremendous sense of “can-do” and adventure. What an inspirational life you are leading!
Mad respect. You awoke to find you were living the rubber stamped life.
You are the best
I've been watching a couple videos a week for a while. Almost caught up. Love your story and adventures.
You've inspired my wife and I, everything we're doing now is geared to getting us to this lifestyle.
That is really awesome. Makes me very happy to see you guys doing so well, and living on your own terms. Good for you!
This family is BY FAR my favorite, so much in common !
I don’t know why I just found this channel and now I’m addicted😂
Hello from Michigan where our Gov has lost her mind in the pandemic, but I have to say, I started watching your channel about 3 months ago, and I am now caught up.
Like to no how you finance in such style and giving to and feeding teens and toys because that's how you are blessed to have that privilege also miss nosey kiwi kimmmy I follow all yacht adventures being one myself years ago when dad ran off with his 17 yold secretary build a monohul traveling the world my awesome question is why or when you going to beautiful Scotland 😍
Thank you for taking us along!
I’ve been watching sailing vlogs for 2+ years and I must say this is by far the best yet! Appears to be all the parallels in background and careers::: hope to follow in the journey you’ve laid the sails to for a majority of those following you! Congrats and truly blessed.
PS- we’ve recently been transplanted from PA to the N.Metroplex of Dallas- Grapevine is in the backyard. Still looking for our first sail as you had once 😊
