I am 77 and have been a devotee of SciFi since 1958... this is one of the best stories and presentations ever. I have searched like so many for an acceptable answer to first contact. Burroughs, Azimov, Saberhagen, Le Guinn, Bradbury and all that have followed could not have done better. It is about life seeking life; in the most honest way. One being to another without the burden of societal/cultural burdens. How fresh and thrilling to imagine that it could be that easy. Kudos to all involved. The best stories are about believable people. It was hard to laugh and cry at his recognizing the "message," but so satisfying. I am glad to have found this by accident ... my quest is complete. We should all share this with someone we care about. Adieu, mes amis...

I also love Sci-Fi. I watched with my cousin almost every Saturday night. This started around the early sixties . I've got to admit that this movie is different, a mixture of cool science ( as sci-fi ) and a very warm and compassionate relationship.
Out of the hundreds of Sc-Fi movies that I've watched over all the years, this will be one that will always be my favorite.

I like the subtle clues that Clara was the "Voyager" and was sent, knowing she would not survive on Earth, to guide Isaac to her world, e.g., - the language skills, her quiet "mysticism" and that she seemed to come from "nowhere". Nicely done. Adams did a really good job playing the role of a guy who "fled to his head" to avoid facing his feelings about losing his child and eventually comes to realise who Clara was and what she was guiding him towards. A lot better than average for this genre, in my view.

The fact that we get hurt by love proves that we need training how to apply it to others and our selves.
Real love is a giving, helping, aiding, and exist simply as an invitation to participate. Some people will never love, but demand obedience and submission without reward.
Real love is it own reward. In loving others we love ourselves and give permission to be free.
Free will is the highest love. And so God gives!

If the Dyson sphere was at the La Grange L1, then it would have been on the opposite side of the Jupiter sized planet viewed from earth when the planet was passing in front of the star. So how did it give the step anomaly? Also how did Bruno determine the orbital period in one pass. Third, If the planet distance was 0.5 AU from the star then howcome the orbital period was so short?...

This allows the imagination to fill in between the lines. Clara is not who she appears to be. They develop a dance of the hearts and it becomes apparent in the end who Clara is revealed as; she has nurtured and softly guided the quest to find the answers and she is the answer he has been looking for. It is a reminder of who I lost, my dearest Rosita 3 1/2 years ago.

She must have gotten the idea of how to communicate back to Isaac at that point. And of course in one scene she's actually drawing the space station. She was either from there or they were using her to get information. Nice and subtly done.

A very moving and memorable story about Life -- ALL LIFE . Even when we don’t want to believe, to hope. Even when we try to ignore hope, it is still there, and hope will always exist, because that is what makes us humans in our world, our galaxy, our universe. But what if there are others out there, somewhere else we don’t know yet, who believe in and hope for the same things - why should that be such a hard thing to have hope for ? We did………
A beautifully written story about Life that hopes to find other Life. Beautifully scripted and acted by people who made you believe that hope is one of the most revealing things about us as Humans !!
