    I’m a designer. The reason for the amount of cladding had to do with proportions.
    Black is often used to trick your eye ...
    It tricks your eye to make the “car” looks more like an SUV.
    It it was less ... I’m sure it looked much worse

    Just test drove the CX-30. Very nice, hits a lot of the right buttons. It felt peppy, handled very well and was pretty quiet on the highway (some road noise but quite good). The interior felt pretty upscale, especially for this class and it was not one of two higher trims available. My biggest reservation is the over abundance of cladding including the full rear bumper. I’m pretty meticulous about maintaining my car and I know the cladding can be challenging to keep looking nice, particularly after a couple of years. A more tasteful amount of cladding and this car this car is a real contender is the small crossover category.

    I have a Mazda but am looking for a small SUV. From this review, I'm concerned the way the navigation screen sits in that hole on the dashboard, those of us who are height challenged may have some difficulty viewing it completely. I'm a 4'11" woman. It would be helpful if reviewers would address the height limitations for some drivers on some models, including dashboard placement.

    Great review Joe on a really nice vehicle. Love the preferred package a lot! The door trim materials in 2 colors is the kind of bold premium statement the company is becoming known for. Personally, I can forgive the prop rod on all but the most expensive vehicles since it’s a huge money saver with little to no drawbacks. I can’t forgive Mazda for the black plastic cladding around the wheel openings, especially given the styling is so spot on as you point out. Big zonk on the plastic cladding, please Mazda don’t cheap out where it ruins an otherwise beautiful crossover!

    I thought this vehicle was fugly at first glance online. It is shockingly sharp and beautiful in person. Quality is top notch too. I do agree the black plastic cladding is a bit much but it works on some colors more than others.
    For everyone griping about this being underpowered, it's absolutely plenty for the average person. There are countless people driving around imprezas without complaint and those things are gutless. That 2.5 is tried, true (as Joe mentioned), and plenty punchy. I have a '15 mazda 3 with this same engine and it's great (coming from a g37). Also less likely to have long term issues when compared to small turbos.
    This is the trim to get BTW. You get that mind blowing bose system but no headache of cylinder deactivation. The blue interior works better than the brown on the premium package too. Unique in a good way.
    But hey, if mazda can mop the floor of this segment with the CX 30 and generate revenue for future performance models, I'm all for it!!

    • @buchajo
      @buchajo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed the engine is just fine. I have the same one in my CX5 and I regularly blow down the interstate doing 80-90 mph. I would invite anyone for a ride with me if they think it's slow....

    • @MrBigBird1776
      @MrBigBird1776 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it seems like you are saying the 2.5 engine is a safer bet than to wait for the 2021 2.5T engines. Just doing normal driving for me and family. If that’s the case I just saved a bunch of money and time. I don’t want to wait for a turbo just to have potential problems.
      What about cylinder deactivation? Are there problems with this function or is it reliable?

    In Japan, they brand it as “just size” size of SUV. The size is actually between CX-5 and CX-3, and the concept is based from Mazda 3. It’s actually in the middle of current SUV lineup in terms of size. In my opinion, the best feature of this car is the clear camera that the previous models didn’t have. Some may not like that plastic cladding but I think that adds more “sporty” look in the vehicle.

Mazda is doing an incredible job with their sheetmetal. The interior is really nice as well, though 1) the infotainment screen is not only small, it sits too low 2) they absolutely need to do a major redesign of the screen and GUI.

      Personally, I think ditching the compact SUVs is the way to go. If you look at cars instead of SUVs, you will save money

    Would a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek be a close comparison to the 2020 mazda cx-30? If so could you do a comparison video?

      Nope not at all. Much larger vehicle. A Subaru Crosstrek would compete with this vehicle.

    Great esthetics. However, I will hold off until the auto has a turbo charger. Keep the 6 speed automatic. Hopefully by the time my 2008 Sentra dies the turbo will be available in both the 3, CX-30 as well as the CX5

      Good to know...how did you like the 2-tone black and navy blue interior? I think the one with the brown is better but you have to go to highest trim to get that...not sure but I don’t think I’ll like the one with the 2-tone navy blue

    Nice Mazda but you can't get a sunroof on anything but top trim. That slab on top of the dash is rather odd and looks like an add on. In my opinion you might want to stay away from the cylinder de-activation which I believe comes on the top trim. Just adds complexity for meager mpg gain. Still for me this car would be my choice in this class.

I’m thinking I’m low on transmission fluid but is no way too check since there is no dip stick. Anyone know what this could be??

    Saw one the other day and it looks even better in person. Two problems though. One, the cladding is ridiculous. The cx 4 is identical but has minimal cladding. Looks much better so I dont understand the logic. The second problem is this vehicle is built in Mexico.

    The flat black helps reduce rock chips witch in northern states reduces rust. Can you please stop “zonking” it because it’s smart on manufacturers part. The less rust the longer lasting. So please lighten up. A little

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't have to be so large. I guess car companies should just make the whole car out of it.

      Raiti's Rides agreed they are getting larger and it would be cool if they were a different color for a two toned color scheme but the original point of them was to stop rock chips

    5m 45s "all LED lighting", not true. Turn signals remain halogen blinkers, not LED.
    17m 45s "0-60 in that 7 second range". It's 7.8, so closer to 8.

    Made in Mexico instead of Japan, the grid lines on the back up camera stand still when you back up, that doesn't help you park between spaces, it will cost you around $ 1,300 including labor to change a burnt headlight bulb because you have to change the whole assembly.

    If he says ZONK one more time! LOL Nice review. I am starting to look for a new vehicle. I have a 2007 Yaris sedan that has been super reliable for 14 years. Not sure if I want to go outside Toyota but I don't really like the CH-R that much and the RAV4 might be to much $$. I have dogs now so need something bigger and that has some go in the engine.
