First time commenting..long time fan..Ok guys here we go..I’m from South Carolina..live in Seattle.. just turned 54 November 1st 2024.,I was in SC when Southernplayalistic”funky”Cadillacmukuck”fo yo trunk” dropped .,it was a bombshell., we were FINALLY able to get from under the New York umbrella., it showed that we were intelligent and thoughtful and dynamic.. all the things New York had clowned us about became assets.the way we talked, our slow pace, the way we dressed etc for me as a 24-25 year old it was so monumental.. I don’t gotta talk with this fake NY accent no more? I can be proud that I grew up country as hell? It’s other people who went through the exact same experience? 🤯 phenomenal record.. lots of original muzick.. very little sampling.. ATL down hoe(in my country boy voice)…now to expound on the relationship between the South and the West Coast that Tray Dee spoke on.... it’s HIGHLY unspoken.. we connected with yall in SO many levels.. car culture, our neighborhoods were similar with yards and such, everybody from the West parents or grandparents from the South etc etc.. I’ve been rocking HEAVY with the Left Coast since around 1988... my brother had a Air Force buddy from the CPT (gangbangin ass Grape Street crip.. judge said jail or the military) who put him on and in turn he put me on FULLY in 1992.. I was wearing dickies and chucks in 1989 and u couldn’t tell me I wasn’t the 5th member of NWA.. this is Big Reg..salute
P.S. tell the Queen her record with Doggies Angels “Baby if u want it you can have have my loving “ 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 in my playlist.. featuring Latoya Williams I believe..🙏🏾
This podcast just feels right. Very few individuals really get hip-hop and have a deep comprehension of There is only 5% of us that comprehend HIPOHOP! The culture is embodied by Deee, Yac, and Crook. KEEP GOING!
I was a senior in high school when Southernplayalistic dropped. I bought it on cassette about two weeks before graduation. I slapped it on graduation night. ‘94 was a helluva year for hip hop, classics dropped every week.
Yeah I was in the 10th grade and I'm from L.A. but I lived in the Carolinas from 8th grade to 12th grade. My sister went to College in Atlanta from '91 to '94. So I was in Atlanta every week and got to see The Fun, Raw,Hood, Grimey ATL before everybody started moving down there. OutKast became my favorite group & this is coming from a True Death Row Stan. I thought nothing was better than Snoop and the Dogg Pound & that's All I listened to was Early Death Row that '91-'95 Death Row. OutKast was the Only group to take my Attention from Snoop and the Dogg Pound.
@@westmontsfinest113st8 You right. I’m a Texan and I was like you. Death Row was killing the game and I jammed everything they dropped. Still do! But down here in the South we jam all southern artists regardless of whether they’re chart toppers or underground. We gone jam the music.
I don't care where you from or what part of the world you are or were in, OutKast brought you to Atlanta throughout the whole album. Got to pop the CD, cassette tape or digital download in the sound system and let it bang out 💯💯
As a Atlanta born and raised I can tell you Atlanta rocked with west coast music way before we did ny mc eight quick short south central cartel the mf Santa clause come straight to the ghetto first time I heard big tray dee and been a fan since. Atlanta got love for long beach and la bay
Stop fakin. Shy D was NY. And y’all loved Tribe and other ish in the early 90s from NY. Y’all effed with Florida heavy. But stop fakin like y’all didn’t ef with NY cause you don’t like certain NY 🥷🥷🥷attitudes. Props to the West and all that, but stop fakin
This is a wonderful and powerful conglomerate of talented writers and elite MC's assessmbled to not only dicuss classic hip hop albums, but classic music. Please keep this going, and I am beyond happy to support. Strength, Peace, Love & Understanding to you all!
This is big, knowing how hard y'all rep the West and kicking this off with artists from the South. This legitimizes the show and attempts to put aside all biases. Great show and great idea for the show. I respect each of y'all's perspectives and opinions! Much love! ✌️
What Crooked said about the Westcoast appreciating music outside of their region but not many people saying it can be said about every region. The true heads were always outnumbered. The radio is going to play whats in demand, but there were always outlets to find out whats going on outside as well. I grew up in the midwest and we loved EVERYTHING...South, Eastcoast, Westcoast etc. I personally was out on by my parents from birth so by 7-8 years old I was a true head outside of their influence. I met Outkast when I was 9 (in 94) and I had this album as soon as it dropped. True hip hop heads were universal in their tadte factor for as far as remember. I lived in Ohio and my moms side was in Ohio, NY and MD/DC...my dad always lived in Stone Mountain/Atlanta, so I have seen a lot hip hop and met a lot if heads in ny life. There were always ppl who stuck to their region and nothing else, but then there were ALWAYS those cats who appreciated EVERYTHING that was dope that came from the culture no matter the region. We need to get back to that IMO and stop comparing everyone and just celebrate the art form.
If you're from the Midwest, when we heard that album and watched the visuals to the singles, they looked and sounded like our "let's walk to the store" cousins when we went down south for the family reunion...
Deee & Crook - I understand what y'all represent, but gotta review Dollaz & Sense, or at least Quik is the Name. It would be great to see these affiliates critique the album(s) of another west coast G that went hard and repped Compton.🙏🏽
More than a dope album review, y'all gave so much game and truth in this episode on a songwriter, mc, composer & producer aspect aspect.. that type of stuff is why this podcast is already jumping ahead of others. And it's coming from west coast legends, pioneers perspective so that's even more dope. 1. ✌🏿💪🏿
Kanye west is another artisT who has had charting albums plus super quality music....college dropout, late registration, graduation, 808's mbdtf, yeezus all fire

Cant wait for yall to do CBO Gas Chamber/Till my casket drops... Marvelous Just Marvelous... Adrenaline Rush Twista... Something Serious Big Mike... The Dude Devin The Dude... Amerikkkas Most Wanted/Death Certificate Ice Cube... It was written NAS... Raising Hell, Paid in Full, Adventures of Slick Rick, It Takes A Nation of Millions.... ATLiens and Aquemini were hip hop AF. Nothing about their first three albums were pop, AT ALL. Now once Stankonia came, things changed a little. That's when they blew up to commercial status.
My shit off that album is that players ball (reprise).... "Cadillac's are coming from everywhere, People vibing good 'cause love is in the air To all you playaz and you pimps, smoke out and have a ball And if your ho is actin crazy, put her on the wall Now, now, now, everybody's dancing and just feeling right I see all of you playaz got your sauce layin' on ice I hope when all of this is over, as I get old, yeah My kids'll have a story that still be told, woo, huh, about" AAALLLLL THE PLAYAZ CAME FROM FAR N WIIIIIDE! then it plays out with that southern funk instrumental.
I support anything Tray do. He solid
