Summer Pruning a Raft Style Trident Maple

- David Easterbrook proceeds to prune a Trident maple (Acer buergerianum) for the summer. This bonsai was formed over 30 years ago when a branch that was air layered was laid on the ground. It then took 4 years for the trunk to root and form the raft style.

Thanks for another very informative video David! Would love to hear more about overwintering Tridents. This is my first year working with Tridents in Maine, which is now the only species I have which needs additional protection, so I'm in the process of trying to figure out the best winter setup.
I will address this in due time. It's just a little too early. I have so much more to work on and talk about

Could the sap freezing thing be why my trident maples trucks die off? The past 2 winters they have died at about 6 inches off the ground.

Hello Serge cette défoliation s'applique à sensiblement tous les érables. À la différence que le Tribolée versus les érables japonais il faut plus défolier les grosses feuilles à l'extérieur et laisser toutes les petites à l'intérieur parce que les plateaux deviennent plus denses.
