Does anybody have an idea what happened in game 2? I couldn't recreate it and I've never seen anything like it on Arena 🤔 Remember to tap that like button ⤵👍
i’ve encountered a situation like this before with excessive Grapshot storm counts however, I just clicked “no attacks” and my opponent started doing things (note: the opponent in game 2 might have just been afk as a rage quit from your infinite) I think what happens here is that when you run out of time, the game makes you automatically pass priority on everything on the stack, then gives you an extra timer string to declare attackers… but that timer string starts _while the stack is still resolving_ If the stack takes too long to resolve (which is really easy with how slow the Grapeshot damage animation is), you can run out of time before you could _do_ anything with that time… but the game still thinks it’s your attack step because that’s what was supposed to happen after the stack resolved
@@secondslash587 Interesting 🤔 I guess it was bm to not click No Attacks then 🤣 I wanted to see if I could attack in their attack step once their timer was gone
I've got a deck with a similar bug to this. It's caused by the timer ticking down while the stack is resolving. For me what happens is I use the rosie/scurry oak combo while a bunch of Soul warden effects and Trelasarra, Moon Dancer are out. If I got to the end of the timer making squirrels all the life gain triggers the Trelasarra, Moon Dancer scrying. Each scry takes so long it burns through the opponents rope, then my rope back and forth until the stack is empty usually ending in my opponent's forced concession due to time out.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love all of SPBKASO's content, it got me back into magic in the first place. That said, I cannot understate how absolutely golden every one of Phil's videos are. I don't typically comment on videos, but I am now because I want to make sure both the algorithm and MTGGoldfish know that his videos are S+++++++ tier, I don't care how few and far between they are. The quality speaks for itself!
My guess is that you aren't supposed to be able to time out during Upkeep, or at peast its not normal enough for programmers to put in safeguards for it. The system probably got confused since you timed out technically before your turn started
This reminds me of the time Hearthstone let you stack so many triggers with the Shudderwock that the animations would take up your opponent's whole and prevent them from doing anything until they timed out and it was your turn again
I uses to play selesnya life gain last year and ended up getting mached with mono white angels. The game on arena lasted for 3 hours with both me and the opponent swinging in for >1000 damage a turn in the engame. Game ended because i ran out of card in my deck. Still one of my fondest arena games ever
I keep a single copy of Ajani strength of the pride in my selesnya angels deck for the mirror. Exiling a double digit number of 20 - 50 p/t angels while both players are at 500+ life is just priceless
I love your content and I don't even play MTG lol. I like every video up front because so far - and I mean this- I've liked every video you've done. Specifically Brewer's Kitchen. The other two I see on this channel, not so much.
@@BrewersKitchenhey man, you are awesome. Thank you for your beautiful content bro. Not that it’s important, but I got my constructed alchemy mythic rank title recently. Can’t believe I was able to get to that rank with 99% commons/uncommons. It begs the question, - is mono red a problem lol? I'm an extremely inexperienced programmer that is still in college, so take this complete guess with a grain of salt: I think what's happening here is a mistake in the code leading turn passing to occur before the end of the game. I suspect that there is a function called that executes and checks events, then at the end it checks your timer, but if your timer is exhausted it goes to letting you declare attackers. That's where the problem likely lies. There's absolutely a function being called after your timer runs out to let you declare attackers. But the function of attacking is preceded by a pass of turn for some reason So instead of what should be: >Time runs out >Allow declaring attackers >Check win cases >If win cases not met, person without time loses What's actually happening is: >Time runs out > Something occurs that triggers being allowed to still declare attackers in a state that would previously end in a lost game state > The code line of losing the game is skipped > Next turn starts But even though it's the turn of person who *_should_* who's in control, the game thinks it's still attacking. It can't resolve that phase, so priority (and ability to do anything) is never passed to the opponent, but their rope still triggers. The game sees it as being in the player's attack declaration phase, so the opposing player is not allowed to do anything. If any competent programmers out there can correct me, I'd appreciate to know where and why I'm wrong! I always love to learn
Naru Meha also combos nicely with ghostly flicker, you can blink for example Sunscorched Desert with Naru Meha and get infinite ping in a mono-blue deck.
Always glad to see a new Brewer's Kitchen video! Have you been playing any of the no banlist Historic? I built a pretty gross Simic ramp deck with Oko, Nexus of Fate, and Agent of Treachery (Yorion as companion, of course). Seems like a very Phil deck, lol. Also funny thing about Oko now - using his +1 on a permanent you control warns you, meaning they view it as a negative effect now, despite them originally designing it with the intention for you to primarily use the +1 on your own permanents (which is why they didn't realize how busted Oko was).
Yep, I actually feel like this format has a lot of potential. Maybe add Force of Negation and some other safety valves and make it Bo3. I'd love to see how the meta would shape up
if you put enough triggers onto the stack you can skip opponents next turn. It has happened to me several times using 1000 year storm to overflow the stack.
That's one frame of "Greedy Brewer Eyes Closed.png" that must have gotten lost when editing 😅I guess I blinked or something when checking the final edit
I run into a glitch like that often when the game grinds to a halt in a match on mobile and I restart the client, throwing me back into the match with an Ajani avatar and no emotes or canned phrases. It will often be in the middle of my opponent's turn, but it will allow me to drop a land, which then becomes bugged.
That would create it’s own issues though, imagine your opponent is making infinite creature tokens but you have a board wipe in your hand. If the timer extended with each of their actions, you would have to wait for your opponent to decide that they’ve looped their combo enough, which if they have the dedication could be many many hours
@@OceanicBacon there can be a middle ground where it still runs out, but it wouldn't run out before you looped a reasonable number is times for opponents on the higher end of the life or deck size bell curves
So, Brewers Kitchen has been a part of Goldfish for a while now. I've been doing a good job at keeping my opinions to myself but I just can't do it any longer. I have to let it out. So here's my complaint: I wish there were 10 of you so there could be way more Brewers Kitchen videos. You make the best jank videos on the planet and I need more of it! This was great, thanks for listening to my rant and making the video.
This is a saucy aggro deck. But a lot of the time when I play mill decks I get matched against someone using the most powerful card in M:tG - Gaea's Blessing. So I always pack a way to strip them out of the opponent's deck. I think you're the only person I've heard pronounce Smeagol correctly, or maybe it's just that your version of it is the best.
Arena has weird coding. eg If your game ends before the music for your table has started, that table's music plays simultaneously with any other sound until you restart the client.
When I play my usual token deck, I need to be careful because I make the game lag so much with so many triggers I once crashed the game because I activated 900 triggers at once
Is it possible to infinite loop something similar and win on time? Is that against the rules? I saw somewhere trying to take too long while you're up is, but if it's because you're making legitimate plays, is that really an issue?
Does anybody have an idea what happened in game 2?

...your upkeep is absolutely during your turn.
@@servantofcygnus computers are dumb like that. December 28th is before the start of the new year, but Twitter still had other ideas a few years back.
I've had it happen where my opponent's timer runs out after mine during my first main phase, I don't think it's tied to upkeep.
Your timer goes up when you target something, even if it is a copy.
I remember there's similar things in hearthstone that broke the game
