I can see how Gammas would scare you as a kid. Even as an adult, I think the concept behind him is a pretty frightening one. He definitely has potential in the internet age as one of the Chouju to be brought back when Yapool inevitably returns in the future. I would have never thought of the Alien Mijir as the kinds od characters to scare anyone but I suppose our minds work in mysterious ways at that age. I remember reading comments from Japanese fans that Alien Atler and Silverbloome scared them even as adults which was interesting to see. I'd say either Silverbloome or Nosferu are the most unsettling Ultra kaiju in my eyes but I think I'd lean more towards Silverbloome because it not only did such horrible things but just looks unnatural, like something that shouldn't even be alive. Thst and the fact that it can shrink down and hide among people gives it and the other Saucer Beasts an edge.
Oh, found another Ultraman Dyna enjoyer just like me when I was a kid. As another big fan of Dyna, I clearly still remember what kind of episodes in Dyna that terrified me as a child. The Zombayu in EP 19, Alien Fabiras in EP 47, Alien Nuaza in ep 14(after the Garaon's ep) are a few of them. Even some episodes felt quite nauseating to watch like EP 38, the Monster Drama, which was less terrifying and was more unsettling. But to this day, my biggest feared episode in Dyna, and in any other Ultra shows, is Ep 23. The f*cking aquatic battle episode with my sworn trauma monster, Dipras. Snakes are one of the human's biggest fears for everyone, obviously including me. Try to gigantize that snake and throw it underwater. The result is a terrifying abomination akin to Leviathan creatures in Subnautica. Seeing this abomination for me, as a child, shapes Thalassophobia inside of me. It was all started when I received DVD, or VCD back then, that had Dyna vs Dipras on the cover of the DVD. Because the cover is quite dirty and dark, I cleaned the cover as best as I can and when it was clearer to see it, I was startled to see a big snake monster deep in the pitch-black ocean in the cover. That remains to be my most feared cover of any Ultraman’s DVD for me. There was also a cover for the next two-parter, Ep 25-26, featuring Dyna vs Reigubas in the same deep in the ocean but it was less scary because I thought Reigubas was cute as a child, unlike Dipras who traumatized me. The episode itself was so unsettling too for me. The way Tsuburaya and the production team was shooting the episode felt like Subnautica before it was popular and we got first-person view for some scenes. It was already nauseating enough to travel underwater with the same blueish filter throughout the episodes but it got worse when Dipras showed up. While I gave props to the team to make Dipras felt so alive and fluid on the camera, but it was TOO good that it scared me so much. The way Dipras just moved so naturally deep in the ocean, the close ups on its face, and how they intentionally made Dipras to be seen in first-person view was just terrifying to watch. To summarize it all, the experience that Dipras and Dyna’s Ep 23 gave me overall left me quite traumatized with any kind of notion with the ocean or underwater. Even until now, whenever I’m taking a bath, I can’t force myself to shut my eyes off because if I showers myself with water with eyes closed, my head keeps reminding myself with Dipras’ close ups face. That’s just how much that ep of Dyna really affected me as a child. Fortunately, I braved myself to watch EP 23 for the longest time a couple of months ago and while I haven’t conquered my fear to the fullest, it’s much better for me now than when I was a child. Asuka and Kouda’s interactions in this episode really carried the overall mood of the episode and alleviated some tense out of this feared episode of mine.
The only Ultraman show I watched as a kid(aside from the crappy 4KIDS Tiga dub... And the seasons that used to be on Crunchyroll) was the first season, the 2nd episode that introduced Baltan had moments that at least sorta creeped me out. the episode being mostly the cast walking around a abandoned building looking for Baltan, him freezing one of the Science Patrol guys was unsettling, then appearing with that monotone laugh track was unsettling, especially as a kid watching it in a darkly lit room
Gammas is one of my favourite Choju, so I'm really glad you mentioned him here. I like how he subtly looks like a crow, it fits his ninja-like abilities. It unnerves me when I think of what would happen if he reappeared in this day and age though, where photos can be replicated endlessly through the internet Tbh those scenes where the Mijir Aliens chase down the kid in the dark can look pretty unnerving. With the exaggerated way they act, I can see how they might come off as creepy the same way clowns do I find the Space Beasts to be pretty scary, especially Nosferu. His arc was so dark, I couldn't believe they let that kind of content air on TV at 7 in the morning, let alone during Christmas or New Year's
with only DVD's available i had at the time, certainly the scariest episodes i found were from Powered specifically the Gomora and Dada episodes, especially since the TV I had was one of those old ones so it only made the episodes scarier.
Amazing video as usual. I only recently got into Ultra as of late 2017, but for me the scariest episodes, and to say most of early nexus would be cheating so nah, would be the Guts two parter from Seven. The lighting and setting of those episodes had me with nightmares lmao, funny alien designs to some, but the OG ones had such a memorable design that under certain visuals and lighting would set off a horror vibe.
The Renki vs. Cosmos episode freaked me out so much that my mum used to hide that dvd
the Ultraman Dyna episode with the ship-monster with the zombie pilot scared the shit outta me when i was a kid .

Episode 4 of Ultraman ace scared me because the manga artist in the episode gives me the creeps

The 4kids dub could qualify as something terrifying too!

Definitely! Now that you mention it, he does look like a crow, and even a frog
Nosferu really is scary, kid me would have been petrified too
The one where Vakishim possesses a kid and makes him burn his grandparents house down fucks me up
I don't blame you
we were on a similar brainwave this year for Halloween :-)
Haha! I was supposed to upload this a day later but couldn't wait once I saw your video because I got excited
@@MeekAle Happy Halloween!

Nothing's scarier than old DVDs + old TVs
The more i think about bogarl she freaks me out more it doesn't help i have a figure of her...
Episode that terrified me:
1. Cyclometra burst our of grossyna chest
2. Renki appearance
3. Alien Zelan in ultraman jack

True, they always have such a way with filming scenes to ramp up the uneasiness. Really plays up to the strength of the designs
Glad you didn't found Renki back then, 6 yo me was 😨
HE"S BACK!!! (Big Fan)
Thanks big fan!
