Good job as always a very fair review. I have camped here a few times. Living in Ottawa I feel the Capital region got the short end for provincial park quality. Charleston Lake is my new go to and < 2 hours from Ottawa. This river, although famed it really isn't very nice although decent Pike, Musky and Bass fishing.
Glad to see you guys reviewing Rideau River. Its one of our go to parks due to 40 min drive from home. Been there 3 times this year. Normally try to go in the 163 loop. The sun sets and sun rises from that shore line are amazing. We are in the 60s so dont swin and are self contained as well. Fishing is great as well. Good show guys.
Thanks for reviewing this little park. It was on my ‘maybe’ list, you’ve saved me a trip. 😊 Now I’m looking forward to what you think of Silver Lake, I have been there.
Nice review! After seeing this, I’m not opposed to staying there, but it doesn’t seem that great. I spent one night at Silver this summer and really liked it. Small park with not a lot to do, but the beach, lake and marsh area were all really good in my opinion.
Thank you Ben and Cheryl for your review on Rideau P.P . Not our style of Park but it looks like a good stop over .👍 Perfect scoring was my guess 😁. Got a suggestion?? Would be great if Ben could do reviews on the trailer dumping/water fill stations . 🥳 We look forward to Cheryls Lou review 👍🫢 Thanks for sharing ,and all the hard time consuming work and Art you put into your videos .😍 We Love them and look forward to seeing them. Thank you for sharing another great video. I’m glad to see you made it to Merrickville. My aunt doesn’t live too far from there. Next time I’m in the area I will need to check out the Merrickville Lock Museum! Happy camping!!
So fun to see you camping in Kemptville. We have had great memories there with our boys growing up. You found some little jems like the dog park and farmers market. This park is 30 minutes to Ottawa so lots to see there too.
We enjoyed the towns around there. The Ferguson Forest Centre is amazing. Trails, disc golf, leash free dog park. We'd get a lot of use out of that area if we lived nearby.
I had to laugh at your description of the firewood you purchased at the park. It seems to be a problem across the province. I purchased firewood at Awenda and it was so damp, we could hear it sizzling and see the water boiling on the surface of the logs when we were finally able to get the fire started!
Unfortunately most of the time we buy park wood it's pretty bad. We usually try to find some nearby outside of whatever park we're at. The problem is Ontario Parks only has one year contracts for firewood. If they had a longer contract I think we would get more seasoned wood.
P.S. I agree with you about Provincial Park wood...its borderline criminal ! I either bring my own and/or search out local sources . I feel sorry for less experienced campers looking forward to a campfire...its sad.
I did fall on that trail but I was rushing as the mosquitos were bad. I agree with your rating, we stayed there as a park to do day trips to Ottawa. I likely won't visit again as I really like to swim while camping and that's not possible there.
I haven't stayed at this parkbyet as it is only 15 minutes from home so it's hard to justify paying to stay somewhere when my own bed is so close and it doesnt have the greatest reviews. We are going to go check it out and walk around this winter though. I hope you checked out Mrs. Magariggles in Merrickville, I love that store. The Caramel store is amazing too. Glad you checked out Ferguson Forest. That's our go to spot for walks when we are home. There is also Limerick Forest that is nice too. You were also there in apple season so Mountain Orchard is a great spot to check out for anyone visiting in fall. Yes the Rideau is not the best for swimming. Can't wait to see what you think of Silver Lake. We did not enjoy it at all but I'm sure others have a different opinion.
Thanks for the review, hate that air gap system for fresh water as we need thread for the Grand Design trailers fill, can see at the dump station as people spent too much time flushing, I would have to lug a lot of water here, not a park for us
Exactly. I don't know why they would put an air gap system on the potable water fill. I don't recall seeing many parks that have it on the potable water fill.
Provincial Park firewood, It isn't a provincial park campfire if you don't have the requisite amount of smoke or that familiar sizzling sound as the water boils inside the wood. I always bring dry wood with me to help get the fire going as you stack your park wood on top of the grill and around the fire to dry it out, hopefully before the fire needs more wood. Just think of the skill that is required to build shelters for firewood that allow enough water inside to saturate it each time it rains......;'> My memories of camping with my dad are him finally getting his plumbing torch out to dry out the wood enough to get it going.
Ah, yes the joys of provincial park firewood. We've never had to break out the plumbing torch, but we do have to add a bit of dry wood to help the fire going. That's a great memory of camping with your dad!
@@charissatroup5611 I do everything I can to avoid the 400 series highways. That's why we don't spend a lot of time at campgrounds in eastern Ontario. When we go to the northern parks we take all back roads to get to Orillia then take 400 or 11 to continue north.

It cost $5.50 to camp at a lock station. That is for hikers, cyclists, or small paddle type boats. We stayed at 3 lock stations when we hiked the Ridea Trail. There is nothing spectacular about this park it is more on the satisfactory rating. Fishing is good, you can enjoy paddling. The sites are good but not much different than most parks. Coming from Ottawa it would be something I would cycle to, and would likely go on a weekday. Like Fitroy it is a fairly basic park. Also another park that I would cycle to. I wonder if the weeds would be a bit less earlier in the camping season. Rideau is close to some nice small towns. It s close to Ottawa. We were just. In Murphy's point, for Thanksgiving. Thanks for the fee clarification. We had a couple people tell us it was free and when I looked it up I didn't look deep enough. I saw that it was free for camping if you're paying for mooring. Still, $5.50 is pretty cheap. Murphy's Point is higher up on our ratings and if we were in that area and had to pick, we'd go there instead of Rideau River.

Get a transponder for the 407. Just $25 + tax for the year so you're not paying the video charge going on and off.
Find that park very noisy with the boat on Rideau river and the trucks on route 5 quite close.
I hear ya about the 407, but I use it every time I head up to Algonquin. The 403, 401 is too stressful for a vacation weekend.

@@CampingwiththeColescheck the math. It was worth it for us to get the transponder. I’d pay 50cents a km to avoid RED traffic on the highway anytime.
