Your various videos on timing belts, fuel pump timing, Egr abominations and chain replacement gave me all the info I needed. Hey Alan. Totally blown away by the work that you do. You explain it so well, I just wish I lived closer to you as I've never seen a more meticulous mechanic in my life. Also I have a mk 4.5 mondeo which I love to bits.
If it wasn't for the timing chain problem they would be a really good motor well apart from egr and the dmf what other problem have you found which should know about thanks
Hello Alan! Regarding the factory standard oil leak by the HPFP. I have came up with an idea which i actually used. I picked the cog-wheelunit in its 2 peices and only bolted up half of it to the engine at the time, why? because if you do that you can use alot of sealent paste on the actual gasket itself and not be afraid of it blocking the oil way because if only half of it is bolted up you can easily remove the excess paste from the hole. then after i have done that I bolted up the other half of the cog unit, installing the cogwheel like this when half of the unit is bolted up can be tricky but a bit of wiggling it around it will slot into the camshaft cog drive. I think this can be a good idea to solve the issue
A car I've just had in with broken rockers has a lot of sealant around the cog box to the head and a bead of sealant on the body of it. Car won't start showing low fuel pressure code which is making me suspicious of the high pressure pump and perhaps it's oil feed. If the pump fails do they often cause timing issues?
Hi alan, great vid. You mentioned on your wednesday live stream about looking for an alternative engine oil supply. Exol lubricants do a ford approved 0w30 in the correct spec might be worth a look. Also, how much does a timing belt & water pump job cost on the mk5
Well done. 👏 What you know and can do, the Ford factory doesn't know and can't do. 👏 At how many spinning miles is this chain changed preventively? Thank you
Hi Alan, i am looking at changing my camshafts and this video is very helpful in guiding me through it! But it is honestly the last resort! I purchased the car a few months back and it has a very odd issue with it that i cannot get to the bottom of! 65 plate Mk5 mondeo 2l TDCI. 150bhp. 146000 miles It has a hard start issue.. it could be in the morning or afternoon, if the car has been stood for 7-8 hours or more, it struggles to start. Could take 1 to 4 turns of the key. BUT once it has started. It drives fine. And it will start first time every time after.. albeit a little rough. Until its been stood for a prolonged time (usually overnight) then it struggled again. With your expertise have you got any common faults that could cause this? Many thanks in advance.. i am lost/puzzled with it and been recommended to get a new engine. But i dont want to go down that route just yet.

Hi Alan, I hope you understand my question. I have noticed on a Ford mk5 in the winter months when the cabin heater is on, after a while, I lose 2dcl of coolant from the system, which is visible in the antifreeze container. What could be causing this? I note that there was no mixing of antifreeze and oil in the container (the antifreeze is "clean") and I did not notice any impurities in the oil.
Hi Alan if Im going to replace the seal on the fuel pump, cam belt replaced not long ago, cam chain is ok. Do I have to set timing to top dead centre and then put the pump back in correctly as you showed or just line up the marks you just shown on the pump without timing up top dead centre? Cheers.
Allan, what is the cause of the tapping noise on cold start engine until is warming and disappear? 2.0 TDCI.A lot of mondeo's have that sound on cold start and nobody know if is that normal.
without hearing it i cant say but diesels usually are not that nice when stone cold, if it was something serious the noise would be there when hot as well

hi christopher, yes when you remove the injectors on these engines you should keep them in order as they are individually coded to each cylinder. if you did mix them up the engine will still run but you could get adverse effects like diesel knock.... you don't need original injectors if you replace the fuel pump
Have you ever had to change a blend door actuator I’m searching but only videos on American Ford fusions we drive mk5 taxis up here in Sunderland and having issues with heat on drivers side but not passenger side. With you dealing with over 100 mondeos im sure you have come across this ???

Just the video I've been waiting for, thanks Alan, i did the paper check and yeah it spits out oil but not noisy like your video, so hopefully it won't cause any problems just yet, unlike my water pump that failed at 50k 3days after I brought the car😂 luckily it was fixed under warranty and they also replaced the cambelt, I had this all done in Huntingdon not that far from your garage?
you can also put a pick in the oil filler hole and wiggle the chain. with the engine off lol..if it is loose then it will need doing soon, you will know as the engine sounds pretty rough with a worn chain, good luck
Hi Alan, I was wondering if you have ever had a tapping noise on any of your Mk5 when you do a cold start? That last for about 2minutes, once the engine warms it soon stops tapping and sounds normal I've ruled out the chain as this seems nice and tight, it's driving me crazy 🤣 and the garage I brought it from tells me it's normal, all I can think is it could be a sticky hydraulic lifter, so that's got me wondering if using a oil Additive would help, everyone who has heard me start my car in the morning or after a day at work notice it straight away 😂 it's a bit of a ongoing joke. Would muchly appreciate any insight if possible. Thanks Alan
Hi Alan. Can you let me know please, I have Mondeo 2.0 tdci st 180 bhp 2017 is it the same engine on mine to? I hav 95k just wondering when this job needs to be done? Thanks
hi, yes it is the same engine, best to have the oil changes done every 8-10k miles. it is the tensioner that wears out and causes the noisy chain but i would say replace the chain and tensioner at around 200k miles or on the second cambelt change
Me parece muy bien le den el like aunque un pero en la limpieza del arreglo tendria que tener mas limpio ese motor para efectuar esa reparcion. Darle un baño antes estaria mejor.
@alan4x i've done everything exactly like in your video...only thing is that i couldn't find the exact Torque for the camshafts cap so i done all 32 bolts at 10nM...now this sloppery french engine is still clonkin and while rev it i think it's one of the injectors but 102k in dash...values says it's ok on the diagnose tool...can i please get any advice from you?
@alan4x Hi Alan, thanks for the reply mate. I can hear a one second rattle from this area on start up (either cold or being sat for a while). Could this be the chain? Definitely sounds from that area. I have uploaded a clip actually. Not sure if it's normal or not...
I will be very happy if the timing chain on my Vauxhall Astra 2015 1.6 diesel Astra last for over 200.000 miles because it is at the rear of the engine flywheel end so you probably no the job involved to renew it
Hi Alan I have a 2018 mk five Mondeo 1.5 diesel taxi i’m having to change the oil every 2 to 3000 miles as the light flashes for oil change then I realised that I was getting oil, dilution I think from the fuel is the dipstick is going higher and higher. How can I fix this problem? And what is the cause?
The classic starting point on DPF equipped diesels for this issue is checking whether the DPF is blocked/heavily restricted because a failed regeneration cycle can cause the unburnt fuel to end up in the oil sump. You mention the car is a taxi, does it just do short (stop start) urban runs or does it get a regular decent run out e.g. airport runs etc?
Most of it is urban city i’m also using Lucas oil stabiliser and I’ve noticed that the temperature of the engine on the dash is 3/4 I’m not on the halfway This is what Lucas does stops the engine from heating up so it says thanks for your reply.

Is the cog box that the pump bolts on a reduction gear or something and what is the chance of something failing and causing the timing to jump? Just put one back together that had snapped exhaust rockers, belt timing was ok so i can only assume chain jumped. The cog box has sealant on its joint and to the head so I'm assuming they had been off previously for some reason, are there oil passages to watch out for on them? What does the pump gear align with in the cog bog and os it set with the crank and cam timing locked

Thanks Alan
Hi Alan … love the videos .How much would a job like this cost ?
Hi. Can you please tell me how hard to tighten (Nm) the camshaft cover bolts?
sorry i have left the country and no longer have acces to autodata
Brilliant I was wondering weather to do mine or not , I now know it's definitely that , 1 question though Alan 0w30 ?? I've always 5w30
hi, yes it is 0w/30 in your engine, i would put the correct grade oil in and change every 8-10 k miles
@@alan4x 165k so far , thanks 👍
Hope you make more videos.
I will, cheers john
I hit the like before i have even seen the vid....
quality vid...very relaxing...

Me parece muy bien le den el like aunque un pero en la limpieza del arreglo tendria que tener mas limpio ese motor para efectuar esa reparcion. Darle un baño antes estaria mejor.
What are the symptoms of a mis timed fuel pump?
Alaaaan,my dear mondeo's profesor,i'm in the exact situation but can't find the link with torques for it,please give a share about them.🥰
@alan4x i've done everything exactly like in your video...only thing is that i couldn't find the exact Torque for the camshafts cap so i done all 32 bolts at 10nM...now this sloppery french engine is still clonkin and while rev it i think it's one of the injectors but 102k in dash...values says it's ok on the diagnose tool...can i please get any advice from you?
How many miles do you do the oil changes at? Every 10k?
Do the mk4 engines have the gasket for the injectors? My C4 Picasso 2.0 hdi 2009 model has no gasket, should it have one or does it just use sealer?
Hi Alan, injectors are stuck on my mk5 mondeo what puller do you reccomend? thanks
Is some noise from these chains acceptable? I can hear mine (it's like a quiet scraping sound) but it's not very loud.
there should be no noise but when the chain gets loose you will hear it which means its time to start thinking about replacing it
@alan4x Hi Alan, thanks for the reply mate. I can hear a one second rattle from this area on start up (either cold or being sat for a while). Could this be the chain? Definitely sounds from that area.
I have uploaded a clip actually. Not sure if it's normal or not...
it could bbe but a lot of work to replace the chain. If it does get noisy you will definitely hear it
Hi Alan, how did you find out that the injectors were bad?
Not sure i want to know what the labour cost on that job was, that looked like a right faff, hopefully i can rest easy with the 50k on my 2015 mk5 😬
Are there timing marks on the cog box itself or can it only align one way?
there is only a cog inside that unit which does not need to be timed up
Good job!!!
cheers jarkozlik
another great video, and the dancing, you should be on strictly
Great Advise ! Thanks Alan
What mileage of this engine? Someone didn't change oil on time?
Hehe thought it was just us that had the ghost injectors going to show this to irate customers
well; i am glad its not just me as well lol
Sounding sweet 👍
Thanks 👍alan
Hi Alan is the paper test the same for the mk 4.
you can't do the test on a mk4 as the oil filler cap is in a different place
Great video mate
cheers mark
Whil it be the same for a Opel astra j DIESEL ????
I will be very happy if the timing chain on my Vauxhall Astra 2015 1.6 diesel Astra last for over 200.000 miles because it is at the rear of the engine flywheel end so you probably no the job involved to renew it
thats not good...thats like the bmws which is a huge job to replace the chain
Hello. I have a Peugeot 508 2019 engine 2.0 BlueHDI My timing belt is cutting teeth. Very low mileage. No more than 1000 kilometers. Is this due to improper installation of the high pressure fuel pump?
what do you mean by cutting teeth, it won't be the pump at that mileage, more like one of the pulleys is damaged or off centre
@@alan4x Everything was fine with my car. After replacing the head gasket.
I changed the gas timing belt. Pump rollers.
Everything was purchased original.
I left the service station and drove 300 km and my belt teeth were cut off.
They changed 8 rockers for me. And they installed a new belt.
I drove 1000 km and again the teeth were cut off the belt.
@@alan4x what do you mean by cutting teeth, it won't be the pump at that mileage, more like one of the pulleys is damaged or off centre
@@alan4x There is another person who installed new shafts 3 times.
The rocker was damaging the shaft.
He doesn't know the reason either.
He and I are looking for a problem.

Hey Alan, can you please do me a favour. Can you film a 2.0 Diesel chain test with paper on a good engine to give your valued viewers a comparison test. Cheers Mate, Ricky :)
What's the highest milage mondeo you've seen matey
just short of 400k miles, that's on a mk5 mondeo

lol, no disturbances at this time

Hi Alan Ive a mk 5 mondeo estate 15 plate tdci. Is my timing belt on a chain? as i thought it was always a belt.
They are all belt drive. Timing chain is on oil pump
@@nigalic ok thanks, do you think the chain should be changed at about 200000 miles
@@richardcruickshank4026 in 9/10 cases not. Regular oil change and drive.
what size engine do you have in your mondeo
@@alan4x i have the 2 litre diesel I’ve had a remap aswell taking it up to 190hp
From 35:08 is that tick normal?
Is the cog box that the pump bolts on a reduction gear or something and what is the chance of something failing and causing the timing to jump?
Just put one back together that had snapped exhaust rockers, belt timing was ok so i can only assume chain jumped.
The cog box has sealant on its joint and to the head so I'm assuming they had been off previously for some reason, are there oil passages to watch out for on them?
What does the pump gear align with in the cog bog and os it set with the crank and cam timing locked
Can't watch your videos when you go for the handheld camera shots - plays havoc with my motion sickness......
