What a nice piece; I had forgotten this. I remember the era when this theme was replaced by another on the CBS show. I had become engrossed with GL in the late 70s. I still remember when Diane Ballard was suddenly killed shortly after revealing all to Alan and putting him under her thumb. Then, in the 1980s the show would shift its focus to young characters (mostly, not completely). It never recaptured the quality that it had when I first got "involved". Mind you, I enjoyed some stuff--- the Annabelle/doll/Barbados adventure, and India trying to destroy Alex and Philip. :) In the 1980s I watched a few daytime serials (my teen and college days--- thank goodness for the VCR), and this tune here was the prettiest melody a show could have had. There is just something so lovely and tranquil here, that harp and those strings plus the flute. Wistful and warm. Everything else pales in comparison.
This has been The Guiding Light Fashions provided by Lillie Rubin Salons South and Southwest, and Barney's...Furs by the Christie Brothers, Jewelry by Stephen Dweck...Stay tuned for Love Of Life next on most of these CBS stations. Be sure to be with us on Tomorrow for another full hour of The Guiding Light!!!
Thank you so much for doing this! I ran across the compilations of the Guiding Light themes on here and found this to be my favorite, reminding me of when I was a child watching with my mom. I am sentimental so it usually makes me tear up. Again, thank you!
And now...The Guiding Light...This portion is presented by Tide, Tide gets out the dirt kids get into...and by Crisco Oil, for fried foods with no greasy taste, and for light tasting salads.
Interesting, the harp sounds more up front in this original version compared with the variation in use by 1980 (where it’s further back in the mix and blended with the vibraphone and synth).
well. I was born in 1981. so the theme i remember is the my guiding light version from 83 to 85. but love all these themes. I also listen to the 1940s radio episodes online.
From 1976-78: stay tuned for "All in the Family" on most of these CBS stations From 1978-79: stay tuned for "MASH" on most of these CBS stations From 1979-81: stay tuned for "One Day at a Time" on most of these CBS stations
This is the theme I loved when I would watch with my family. Just a great time period. The golden age of this classic series. Way before it became the Reva hillbilly show.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for including a link for mp3. Unfortunately I’m not very tech savvy :( I was able to download this onto my phone by saving it into a file but does anyone know how I can get it onto my music so I can add to a playlist?
Don't get me wrong I like the extended version with forest background which is what I remember as a little child. However the sound quality is much better with this one.😁
Hey Edwyn, fantastic job....as always...Oh by the way, will you be doing any more of those newsbreaks from the S.A.U?...I'm starting to miss those, and here's another idea for you to consider doing...In the early days of television (before all local and network stations went to 24 hours), local stations did sign-offs to end their broadcast day, followed by the National Anthem, and I was thinking that you can do one those local station sign-offs from the S.A.U. I'm pretty sure that local TV stations in in the S.A.U had done these back in the day...you can find these local TV sign-offs on youtube for inspiration.
Yes indeed. Each of the S.A.U. stations in Halfurd that aired the US network’s programming had a sign-off identification. The HALB (Halfurdish Association of Local Broadcasting) also was a part owner of the three local stations, so the company was also mentioned in the sign offs.
Link to mp3 is on the description

What do you think of this theme?
Great excellent theme!
Awesome!
love this one and the opera one as well
Between this and "Hold on to Love" for the best GL theme, It's a tie!
Haunting, eerie, sad, evoking the realization how quickly time passes. But so beautiful, thank you Edwyn.

I miss the sweetest woman I ever knew when I hear this...my grandmother. sigh. The good old days.
For me it was my mother. Watching and drinking tea. Things were simpler then.
I had forgot all about this theme because I haven't heard it in many years. Thankx

"The" Guiding Light, or "Guiding Light?"
Be sure to be with us tomorrow for another full hour of The Guiding Light. Such Memories
Remind of my grandmother of the 70s .. this was one of favorite soaps
One of the loveliest soap-opera themes ever written.
My earliest memory of soap theme songs and GL!
This theme with the revolving Emmy in 1981 was my favorite soap opera closing theme of all time.
Thank you so much for doing this! I ran across the compilations of the Guiding Light themes on here and found this to be my favorite, reminding me of when I was a child watching with my mom. I am sentimental so it usually makes me tear up. Again, thank you!

Ok that's cool and fascinating and I'm kinda crying but not uncontrollable it's sad a tear-jerker
The best theme GL ever had!
For me, this isn't so much a theme as it is a meditation! I remember it vividly and fondly from "back in the day"
This reminds me of my mom and coming home from school in the mid 70s and early 80s
Beautiful warm and touching !!!!!!!
How far down the rabbit hole of music of today we have sunk too
Nowthey call them artists
And now...The Guiding Light...This portion is presented by Tide, Tide gets out the dirt kids get into...and by Crisco Oil, for fried foods with no greasy taste, and for light tasting salads.

In 1979, I was living in New Orleans; when the ending theme came on, what I remember is that *THE JOKER'S WILD* came next on WWL, Channel 4.
This is the theme I loved when I would watch with my family. Just a great time period. The golden age of this classic series. Way before it became the Reva hillbilly show.
makes me think of Diane Ballard.

This is spa music.
Isn't there another variation with a woman vocalizing? Do you have that by chance?
I do have that vocalized version but that will be posted very soon!
@@EdwynNSanchez Excellent! Thank you!
