    A lot of new trainers are not even aware of this technique and it’s saddening to me.

    I know someone that has a DDR. She is the sweetest German shepherd I’ve ever met. Extremely well trained, yet calm. I’ve been heard her bark. She is his service dog.
    How do a I get a DDR like that?
    Thanks

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog
      @DDRGermanShepherdDog  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Consult a breeder in your area or neighboring States or countries, who breeds gsd's of East German lines (if it's really got to be DDR) and ask him to reserve a pup that is likely to turn into the kind of adult dog you're hoping for. Genes are alive and can radically transform a pup into a completely different dog later on in life, character-wise, but still more often than not a breeder can (so to speak) predict things to certain degrees.
      But can I ask you, why does it have to be DDR?

    • @secretjourney4815
      @secretjourney4815 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the information. Good question. Perhaps I have other options.
      Why a DDR?
      I am looking for not only a dog to alert us of danger, but one that can be friendly, to us and others. Very important, is a dog that does not bark much. I was very impressed with my friend's DDR, she is QUIET as a mouse, friendly, and alert.

      @@secretjourney4815 There's a little more to it. Any reputable will also size you up and make sure you are ready and capable to handle such a dog. Reputable breeders only put dogs like this in the right hands. Not sayin to discourage you by any means. High end working line dogs like this are not for beginners or the uninformed. They are a handful and can overwhelm many. Good breeders only want success stories with their dogs and are very selective when placing them.
      Everybody starts at day 1, good luck in your journey. Now, go get one!

  • @hypewulf8261
    @hypewulf8261 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the fact your using a harness w/ a leash to control your GSD. I hate when people put the leash on a dog's collar and tug it during training! 😤
    This is because if u do that, it will cause pain as well as damage to the dog's neck over time.
    A harness is a better choice because it's more comfortable for the dog. 😊👍🏾

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog
      @DDRGermanShepherdDog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It also depends on the dog itself. If it's a tough dog, nothing like that will make him or her go soft. I love saying this but, it's about genes, not training.

    • @PeacefulWorld123-freedom4us
      @PeacefulWorld123-freedom4us 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Collars especially prone collar are efficient tools to control and correct a reactive or aggressive dog's unwanted behaviors, but could cause damages. Safest way is to use no-pulling harness.

      @@asmrmetalman1061 no . We would love to be able to take him out . Our trainer kept him for 2 weeks. He said this was the way it was gonna be. We can watch for triggers. And be ready for it. He said we have what some people pay thousands of dollars for . For free . He was never trained for protection. We did the positive reinforcement thing . We did everything. My trainer has over 40 years experience training GSD . He made the second trainer we had. First one told us the same thing. So we got a second opinion. That’s when we knew he’d never change. We do take him out to run , go for rides, he camps with us . But we have a fence we take with us. We are always very close by . We do keep a shock collar on just in case . But it’s there for his protection also. I will never take a chance of him getting taken away from me . He doesn’t play well with other dogs except his pack. We also have a female . Loves everybody. Completely the opposite. We have excepted it. He does really good at the vet. But he is used to them . They can now take his muzzle off. Took 5 years. lol But we can’t go in with him . They have to come out to get him. As long as my husband and myself is around he thinks he has to protect. Especially me . We are starting to see a little calming down as he gets older.

    Nice to see that kind of dog, my dog its more sport line working gsd, zero natural agression to anything but huuge drive. Have some ddr born dogs what I see in pedigree but im not specialist. So Its only what I see is place of born is ddr and after 1989 I cant find what kind of dog it was. Some dogs go to police from his litter/line. But today in poland most of working dogs are like mine. High drive but not natural aggresion, pet line/show all same. Some older types from 10-20 years ago are very much diffrent.

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog
      @DDRGermanShepherdDog  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, your are pointing out exactly where things are at, not only in Poland but everywhere. It's the cruel reality, the dogs will bite a sleeve, chase the criminal but it's all a play for them.

      @@DDRGermanShepherdDog today gsd is more labrador. When I was kid gsd are same level agressiv like rotwaillers or caucasians. But to be honest there is less and less need for guarding dogs. Its more problem than profits. And real thiefs using methods than neutralize dogs quick. Poison, sound etc. So I understand why its comes this way. Police also wants dogs easier to handle and less civil agression, using only for purpose. Defending agression its great for guarding.

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog
      @DDRGermanShepherdDog  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ironragetv5448 Yes, you are telling things the way they are! I absolutely second that. It's funny I have been chasing tough GSDs all my life or most of it so far, but in all honesty, in more recent years I was ready to actually protect my dogs. As you said, nowadays thieves got the tools to skip the dogs fairly easy. Nevertheless, I still wish the dogs had that old school civil aggression, so they can at least look after themselves or have bigger chances to put on a fight with positive end. I use to train my first dog to fight a guy attacking him with fire. This was back in 1995 - 1996. What can I say, I for one will always be emotionally attached to the old way, when it comes to working dogs.

      @@DDRGermanShepherdDog simple thing you feed dog not for everybody can pet him... 20 years ago its almost imposible, big dog anybreed nice to strangers was useless and treat much worse than good guardian, everybady wants bad dog look inside mouth to see black etc oldschool stuff. My bigest shock was that german working dogs are in most cases not agresiv. More big show line dogs have more civil agression but they are old type and abaut 10 years age in dog world its huge time laps, today almost everything what you can buy in poland its shitty long hair pet gsd and sport/prey drive working line. Zero dogs with good guarding ability for home with garden. Cao are popular but its bad suit for regular place and those dog ard huge with lot of health problems.

I look forward to more videos from you!

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog
      @DDRGermanShepherdDog  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on the dog. I can do that with some of them, not all. Dogs for certain bloodlines have very high social aggression. I can pretty much never take that out of Jessie or Jaro, for example. Or I guess you could, with training and equipment etc, but I don't want to break their spirit. Jessie will never ever be ok with another dog close by, unless she knows that dog. If I forced her to be quiet etc, she'll do it because she knows she has to, but otherwise she'd still charge. So I see no point in teaching such a dog to be "calm" in etc circumstances. Better just avoid circumstances where I know the dog gets challenged. That's just my way of thinking and doing things.

    She should behave when she is in public. We want dogs to protect us, our families and homes, so they should wanna eat the attackers, they should not wanna eat everybody and everything. It's no point of having a guard dog if you have to put her in a cage when friends are visiting you
