    Everyone needs are different .I bought a German shepherd pup 11 years ago looking for a good guard dog and all I did was not socialize her with people ,there were plenty of play time and plenty of walks no special training other than the basics of what I taught her and she is a natural protector , you can't approach me when walking and you can't come into my backyard but at the same time when company comes over I don't have to put her up she knows the difference. I love that dog. looking for a pup now because of her age.

    It's so funny people are concerned that sv dogs are more concerned about looks, yet they forget that the gsd breedstandard is extremely comprehensive and dictates that a dog needs to have a stable temperament, show courage, have reasonably high drives and low thresholds. Yet both sides show lines and working miss the balance that vom Stephanitz was seeking. So many so called working line dogs with super low thresholds, over aggressive behaviors coming to the foreground and being praised for there workability. Unfortunately these dogs are ticking time bombs. The other side of the coin is also true show lines with low drives and little grit. We need to find the balance and go to the standard and not our personal feelings. A gsd is a gsd, and it has one breed standard. Let's get back to the total dog.

      What a fine comment, thank you for that. I have to say, yes things can be improved but it takes (in my humble view) way more experience than what nowadays breeders have, to see things happen. I am pessimistic with regards to bringing the old back into new. You get very good looking GSD's or very extreme drivey GSD's. The only way to save things is by wisely combining lines, but too few know how to mix the lines, also most are too focused on making money off their dogs. So, like I said, I don't forsee a positive future for the breed.

    I enjoyed the film very much and continue to support the channel. As a prospective first time owner, the guidance around dog personality type and suitability for role (e.g. police/family companion) was most helpful. It seems clear with so many demands on the breeding purpose (police/pet/sport etc.), that conservation efforts will be essential to preserve the ‘original’ DDR bloodline for future generations.

      Thank you kindly, for the feedback. I do have to make a side note - this particular video has little to nothing to do with the DDR topic I usually want to bring to light, but is rather more related to the current situation of the GSD. Reading some of the comments I come to the conclusion that some don't even know how to read dogs and/or are influenced by rather geographical matters when analyzing dogs. All this tells me more uploads would be good / practical so I will try to make the time to post more GSD related content. One things is for sure - the breed has become just another "sell" element. Many will over-advertise what they have, just to sell - I nearly fell down that track and it was one of the reasons I decided to stop breeding (and selling pups). Thank you for taking time to watch the video and give some feedback as well and I wish you many years of pure joy generated by your k9 friend and of course I trust you will provide him with the best quality life you can.

I hope you don't mind if I share your information with my Facebook group to help educate others on this matter.

    A very interesting interview with the breeder the GSD that he breeds look tough enough for the great majority of owners and they do look the part. The Malinois strikes me as a fear bitter and shows a lack of courage. The GSD are not really like the old dogs of 40-50 odd years ago they are too big and heavy for police or security work but would probably make excellent personal protection dogs, 😇

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog
      @DDRGermanShepherdDog  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True, I'm not a great believer in the large type but at same time I understand the breeder's approach (deeper impact, more strength all around) but in my experience the bigger dogs attract some health issues faster. I'm for balance in the end but if I had to choose between large and small I'd probably opt for large.

      I am blown away at how many stupid ppl see my 80lbs male(perfectly proportioned and lean) and think he’s a female or a small shepherd because he isn’t huge and then tell me about their or their friend’s 120lbs gsd. I’ve seen them and my 80lbs male is faster, quicker, stronger and more ferocious than 3 of those overgrown imitations. I was blessed to find him as he is a one in lifetime find. I am the only person he is loyal to and obeys, he isn’t aggressive or fearful of strangers or dogs, he’s rather neutral unless given a reason to not be and he has zero inhibitions about biting to kill when necessary. I wish the “working” gsd’s I see all the time were what they should be because I love the breed but not what it has become mostly.

I am following many Instagram accounts related to GSD/Malinois training, but none shows GSD from the side you are showcasing. And indeed most of these accounts promote sport dogs and not real Personal Protection Dogs.
      I am very grateful to the trainers of my GSD puppy, because literally the first question after the puppy's assessment was "Do you want to do Sport?", I answered "No, I just want to train him as my Personal Protection dog". Their answer was "Thanks God! Sport is BORING!" haha :)

    For a person who lives in a big city such dogs like ddr and malinois would be a big problem if they don’t socialized well. Problems with their children, with neighbors, with people on parks, streets, coffe shops etc. But people in big cities need the most protection actually, since millions live there and more people means more crime. That’s the another reason why we need balanced dogs which is well trained, socialized and taken care of. More aggressive dogs are for the police and the army or for people who live in rural.

I don't know what it means by alternate bloodlines. I want to make sure the DDR pup that I buy is the best quality available (no genetic diversity or must be very less) have strong bones, natural guard dog, big block heads and very healthy disposition without inheritable diseases. I don't mind paying top dollar for it. But the truth is I am still a novice when it comes to identifying purebred dogs. I have come across your YT and can tell your DDR knowledge is very deep. I salute your straightforwardness and response. Now, let me have my say. I did not shoot their cream for this material, emphasis was or should be placed on the actual interview. The sharp, tough dogs were the ones in the kennel run and the large male brought out. They were not put to any work for me to shoot (I was hoping for it though). So I guess in other words, the showcased dogs doing some bite work were young dogs that happen to be in training - NOT the tough dogs Mr Andronic is talking about. I did use the footage of dogs he produced (tough or not) to be able to have a 100% Bismack material, except for the TH-cam footage of the WUSV dog playing with the helper (the one that got the sleeve off the helper).
      The one dog that caught my was that Bucovina Shepherd female I showed at the start of the video.
      But just to say again, the dogs I shot were not to back up the interview statements. I guess that can be done too but it takes some planning, time and resources.
      I do whatever I can by way of video. I guess the ultimate experience is to see the dogs in real life.

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog
      @DDRGermanShepherdDog  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Now to address the bite put of fear issue - do you have 10 month old dogs that display that amount of suspicion towards strangers (try strangers holding a camcorder, too, see how a 8-10 month old GSD reacts).
      There will be a certain amount of fear or suspicion that takes a threat seriously - or else we'd be talking dogs that just bite out of prey drive and they're merely playing and have nothing to fear. Am I right?
      Let's think humans. If you're in a real fight - do you calmly dive in, having nothing to loose, or do you experience a mix of feelings / chemicals knowing that you could be the looser in the end?
      A boxer will fight with confidence, because there are rules. A real fight has no rules and there's no way you would go into it with 100% courage. I have seen these dogs and, for 10 month old, they have done way better than titled WUSV ZWV etc I have seen in the CZ, who would show no sign of suspicion or fear, but also no sign (not the slightest gesture) to protect the owner, because they saw no sleeve on my arm.

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog

      I think I know what he is referring to, but these were young dogs (8 and 10 months old) and they were undergoing their daily obedience training but I showed up with my camera and sort of got them suspicious towards me - which obviously means some body language will tell they were on guard. Some will read that as fear. Some as suspicion and so on. I guess the ultimate experience is to see the dogs first hand.
      I am not defending the breeder / kennel, I am just saying, the showcased dogs are young. I can't expect the world from a less than 2 year old.

  • @BlaBla-pf8mf
    @BlaBla-pf8mf ปีที่แล้ว

    The trainer makes a good argument for what are basically East European Shepherds, but the fact that he breeds an untrainable sire is questionable. If a 7-8 months old GSD can't be retrained by pros it means that there is something really wrong with it and that thing could be hereditary.

    • @DDRGermanShepherdDog
      @DDRGermanShepherdDog  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmm yes and no. I think. But he brings his point across fairly loud and clear - he uses overly aggressive dogs to balance things out, as too many GSD'S are soft. Of course the outcome of such approach will have to be tested over time but I for one heard his "cry".
      And he won't sell a very aggressive dog to someone who doesn't want a very aggressive dog.

    If you go back to the 50-ties they wrote in your Körungspaper if the dog had a high naturally protection drive.
    Is the dog sharp?
    High protection, this dogs are pure working lines. They needed a good strong dog in those days.
    What we see is normal dogsport but in the real live you need a dog who has a high protection genetics. These dogs are not for sport. They must work in military, K-9.
    The dog must be clean with other people and very important he must have a good sozialiton.
    Without this genetics drive, the dog is not clean in his head or the handler has the wrong dog for himself.
    If I look in the eyes of a german showline dog I see a dog who has this stupid looking, no drive nothing.
