Your videos are very helpful and they lift my spirit - thank you so much! I'm new to this hobby, I bought a EF Platinum Preppy to start with, to see if I like using bottled inks and fountain pens in general, and now I'm expecting a Mint Blue Twsbi Eco T with medium nib in the mail. I try to limit myself to affordable yet good pens and your videos have really helped me to narrow down the list of pens I might want to invest in. I think I will get a Lamy Safari with a broad nib next (and hopefully stick to these for a while, even though your yellow and rose gold Twsbi Eco are calling my name).
Hi S. I'm so glad you are here! Yes, if I could do one thing different - I'd not get SO MANY pens until I really wrote with a model a long time to see how I like it. I still LOVE my Lamy's, TWSBIs, & Jinhao X750s!!! Good luck in choosing pens you will like and I'm so glad you have the joy of the hobby right now - we all need a positive focus!!!
Nice collection! I have 3 Lamy Joys with a selection of stub nibs, a blue macaron Safari, and the vibrant pink Al-Star with extra fine nibs. My first pens were 2 TWSBI Minis (including the rosegold special edition), a Vac Mini. Then I thought it might be nice to have a pen I could put on a lanyard so I got a TWSBI Go, and I like it better than I expected to! I like extra fine Western nibs and the 1.1 stub the best. My friend has the Lamy dark lilac and I told her to leave it to me in her will, but I see they are coming out with a violet one with matching clip which may satisfy my purple lust.
Hi Arlene - oh yes I saw the Lamy Violet one on Goulet Pens video - and the yellow one too - those are pretty and I'm going to save for the yellow but the purple is very close to the Dark Lilac so I'm good!!! :) I LOVE the TWSBI Gos!!!!
Despite my total lack of any desire or fondness for Lamy Safari/ Vista/ AL Star - and indeed TWSBIs and Jinhao pens, I found this series rather relaxing and enjoyable to watch. Taking stock of all the pens you own is just a downright practical, smart and fun activity in its own right. I currently have 71 pens - of mainly modern but also sundry vintage classics, as well.
Hi Sajjad - you've made my day! I'm glad this segment was enjoyable & I'm looking forward to sharing the next part - quite a few different pens will be in part 3.
Chris Saenz ...Oh, Chris., you’re too kind to say that. But I truly enjoyed this video as much as I did Pt. 1. I keenly await Pt. 3. This cool series prompted me to sort through and organise my own sizeable (and still manageable) fountain pen haul today. Realised I have 20 cool Chinese pens - all bought during 2019. Talking of Twsbi pens - do you have a clear favourite model? And Jinhao? Of the 3 brands you showcased here, I only have 1 Jinhao (159), 1 TWSBI (580AL) and the Lamy 2000. I have used the sapphire GO before.
Hi Chris! My go to and always write pens and my TWSBI’s. I mean they just never fail me!! I watched MandaB’s video of her Yellow TWSBI Eco and TWSBI Black Ink - thank you Lemur Ink for getting those to me today! So that’s the ink I have in that pen. I also bought the TWSBI Eco Rose Gold. It sat empty for weeks and then I watched your review of the Akkerman Gourmet Pens Pink Ink. I had bought that a few weeks ago but decided to put that in my Rose Gold! Beautiful - both pens and inks. Both pens write like magic!!
Hi Sandy - same here - my TWSBIs never let me down! I am loving Graf Von Faber Castell Stone Grey in my yellow Eco! I'll write with it a lot and it's such a cheerful color! Next I will ink my Rose Gold. Mine has a stub. Happy writing!!!
Hello Chris, Thank you for a great video. I use the EF Lamy at work and find it an excellent everyday nib. I have used fountain pens for decades, cheap right through to expensive and then I used a Twisbi and it was amazing. No more expensive pens for me! I love the Twisbi nibs, feeds and the ink capacity. I do not have the yellow Eco but will think about it for a while as it is such a cheerful colour. Keep well.
Hi Anne -- the TWSBI pens were a real game changer for me too -- they caused me to re-think any pen that is balky because the TWSBIs write so good and are so reliable. :) Stay healthy and happy Anne!
What a great video. I love the way TWSBI looks and writes and the way Lamy writes (took me awhile to order one - I couldn’t warm up to the wire clip!?). My first TWSBI was a vac mini and I haven’t looked back - just seem to keep ordering when that bright/shiny object hits my radar (case in point, I too have an Eco in yellow!) Thanks, Chris.
Hi Sue! TWSBIs are so tempting! Lamy's are so much more versatile with the nibs interchanging but I'm also tempted by their ever increasing color choices!!!! :) I can only try to contain myself with allowance limits I guess! :)
Love seeing the inventory. I finally did an inventory of my inks yesterday to make sure that if I was following some of your suggestions of favorite inks it wasn't ones that I had already. I was pretty sure that I didn't have them but wanted to make extra sure. I have to check if you have a video for all your inks because you really seem to have a great collection! My problem with doing my pens is that I don't have the names for all of them. Some were gifted and I can't seem to find any name.... I will have to go online and check.
Hi Vicky -- it did take me a LONG time to look up many of the gifted unusual pens -- and even now I'd have to refer to the inventory for some of them ... I do remember that took some extra time! Which reminds me I need to add on the pens that came in in December! :)
I’m so bummed I missed out on the Yellow Eco. I went with the Prussian Blue ALR, believing I had time to get the Eco, and then they sold out and aren’t bringing them back. 😣
Oh no! I just really hate the whole limited edition aspect of pens (and inks). Ugh. Why do they do that? When, in my opinion, they could sell a whole lot more pens if they made them regular. It's not even fair!!!
Aloha Chris! A very nice selection of Lamy's and TWSBI's! When I first got started, I HAD to buy all the Lamy version, so I sought out one of each Safari, Vista and Al-Star. Since I am mostly into fine nibs, I just had to try all the nib sizes. After getting them, found all of them to have varying degrees of scratchiness, with the EF being the worst (to be expected!?) No matter what direction I write, it's scratchy. The F is a little better and the M even better, but both of those I haven't used in quite some time, so I am only going my memory. The B is okay and only scratchy when writing from left to right. I have since bought another B and a 1.5mm so I can still use the pens, but haven't used those nibs enough to get a good idea of how it feels. So in general, not a good experience with Lamy! I have shared with you my experience with TWSBI. To add to my comments, yes the fins on the feed are very delicate with the GO, but luckily the ECO is much better. They are a little hard to pull out initially, but after the first time, they come out without too much effort. Because I haven't had the best experience with the 1.1 that came with the GO and since the EF and F with the TWSBI ECO are virtually identical, I would like to try a different #5 nib on either or both of those pens. That limited edition yellow looks very attractive, maybe in a M, which is the only TWSBI nib size I haven't tried. Looking forward to part 3 …. Take care and stay safe! Mahalo from Kauai, Hawaii, Thomas
It is so interesting how two different people can use the exact same pen, and yet have diverse different writing experiences. We each have our own particular quirks. I'm quite sure you've discovered by now that swapping the TWSBI nib is easy.
I loved seeing your Lamy and TWSBI collection. I have been considering getting another Go in a different nib size, but one of the same colors I already have (all 3). I must say I’m hoping for a new barrel color before I commit. I have found the TWSBI nib and feed fairly easy to remove. I did bend the fins of the feed (not the nib) a little, but it still writes the same. The first time is the hardest. I’ve learned to use a Goulet grip and hold below the shoulders of the nib for even pressure distribution. Some feeds are keyed for proper placement (I think the Go) and some are not (I think the Eco) so you’ll want to investigate that. I find it easiest to remove after some flushing. I prefer to clean them by taking out the nib and feed now instead of using the piston knob. A syringe is your best friend, it’s like cleaning a converter. It also makes using shimmer inks in the Go about the easiest experience ever. I think with few videos and a crab band or grip, you’ll find a whole new world with these pens. Thank you so much for sharing! 🧡🖋
I too own the Lamy Al-Star in vibrant pink and both TWSBIs in white/rose gold and yellow. I am so elated that the Eco's yellow is the hue that I can live with. I have been very disappointed in yellow pens I've bought. They were either paler than depicted or more of an orangey hue. My yellow Eco is very much to my liking. My plan was to get Robert Oster's Honey Bee for the Eco; if it turns out to be too light, I plan on a lighter brown ink. Regarding Lamy's, I have experienced problems with several of these pens in the past. My first was a Lamy Safari in white and the vibrant pink I've mentioned. The issue with the Safari was its nib (very scratchy, nib tines misalignment); the Al-Star's was the cap not sealing well which caused ink to dry out fast. All my Lamy fountain pen problems were put to rest with my purchase of a Lamy 2000 which has an ideal weight, writes right away, and never dries out. What a fantastic and reliable writer! I am not interested in buying another Lamy fountain pen; my 2000 satisfies my quota. What I do own and am very happy with are my rollerball Safari's. I love the look of the Safari and I'm satisfied with having them as rollerballs. I own most of the "lighter" colors with the green being on my "To-Get" list. My TWSBIs have been excellent writers from the beginning (started using them in March 2018 and use them constantly) and continue to be; I can't say enough about them. Thanks for the video!
Oh that's a bummer about the scratchy Lamy nibs! But I'm glad the Lamy 2000 is really awesome -- I've heard a lot of good about that pen!!! It better be at the price!!!! :) I've also had great experiences with all my TWSBIs!
A great selection that you have there. I do like the yellow and rose gold TWSBI Ecos that you have, but I won't be purchasing any Ecos as that pen is too long. Maybe they will bring out more colours in the TWSBI mini pens. I've decided that I do love small pens, so will eventually purchase extra nibs for the Diamond minis and other small pens that I do have. I do like my Lamy Safaris and Al Star pens and I find the 1.1, 1.5 and 1.9 nibs to be also great. I've put on my purchase list for next year, the Lamy gold oblique broad and medium nibs......wish TWSBI did oblique nibs, but maybe I'll find one that will fit the Diamond Mini . Anyways next year when I'm spending again, I will be searching for who makes small pens and oblique nibs, ones that are a similar size to the Conklin Minigraph, but there seems to be far too many larger pens out there and not enough oblique nib choices.
Hi Annie -- good nibs make all the difference for sure!!! :) On my list are the 1.5 & 1.9 Lamy nibs. Can't wait to try them. You're being so GOOD on your no spend ... I really admire you!!! :)
I changed the nibs on two of my twsbi’s right before I saw your video and I squeezed a bit too hard, using my fingers, and the feed plastic line things (not sure the name) got bent a little bit but I was able to move them and adjust with my nail and they are fine 🤭; I have changed them before but this time may have squeezed too hard...
Hi Zoe - you're braver than me ... I still haven't put the new B nib on the blue Eco yet ... I'm afraid I'll mash the fins of the feed like I did with a 992 once.
I love TWSBIs! I have 3 ECOs, 3 minis and a 580 ! I think is their best nib. TWSBI has some of the best medium nibs I've ever used - the other one is the Bock. I never liked Lamy Safari ....

Another great video! I especially loved the rose Tswbi 580 AL. Gorgeous rose shade! And how did I miss out on buying it? I don't remember even seeing it but maybe that's just as well. Thanks so much for doing this!
Hi Donna! I missed the purple Diamond 580 ... I think that I had decided the clear one can "go with" all ink colors and I just didn't want to be overspending and buying a lot of colors. Maybe I can trade the red for a purple someday. LOL :)
I too have twoTWSBI ecos (medium and a stub), can you tell much of a difference between the eco and the 580? I recently got a Kaweco Student Pen, 70s soul, that writes beautifully. I do enjoy your videos.
Hi Joel - just generally speaking my Diamond 580s in M write wetter than the Eco but not by too much. That's not a criticism against the Eco though. I am eager to try a Diamond 580 stub nib unit - that's on the list for this year. :)
Hi Sharon - it's a fun project - I worked on it over 3 days and I'm complete on it - 116 pens including all Preppys, Varsity's, 599s ... only a few MIAs right now.
Very much enjoyed your part 2 video. In your Part 2 Description clicking on the link for Part 1 using our iOS devices, iPhone and iPad, and a Samsung S10e, returns “This video is unavailable”. The Part 1 link does work using a MBP and Chromebook. We cannot figure out why that link does not work with mobile devices.located Part 1, copied that link here: th-cam.com/video/JaIuFHc6EOk/w-d-xo.html. Hope that helps others.
Enjoyed another. Thanks for sharing your collection.
How fun! I love twsbi and Lamy pens. I have that same lilac Lamy, and the black Lamy, and the blue twsbi go.
I enjoy seeing your pen collection. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Janis - thank you!
That rose gold Eco is beautiful.
It really is pretty & I'm glad I got the stub nib!

What color is your Eco T Matthew?

Hi Casey - I'm hoping for a purple TWSBI Go :) Hopefully I'll get brave on swapping that nib soon.
Wow that’s all the ecos I’m excited for in one place❤️
Hi Emily - they are so pretty and TWSBI knows how to keep us interested that's for sure!
Wow! I have 10 total. I suffer from decision fatigue if I have too many
I do get really overwhelmed sometimes trying to make pen/ink decisions. !
Super! 😁
Hi Chris,
The color name of the light blue Lamy Nexx is called Opal.
Enjoy your collection 🖋️💕
Thank you Gene - I got that onto the inventory but had to look it up because I couldn't remember!
the lamy alstars scratch like crazy, youre right to be worried
Hi Selina - I guess I've been right to be cautious with mine then. :)
👍👍👍,
However Digital World Gets,
Pens(Specially Fountain)Pens are Something Special
Hi Pranjit - they sure are!!! I've always loved pens but fountain pens are my favorite!
I need to do this so bad. Just so I know what I have
Hi Sharon - it's a fun project - I worked on it over 3 days and I'm complete on it - 116 pens including all Preppys, Varsity's, 599s ... only a few MIAs right now.
Thank you Ric! These technical glitches are most unsettling - I shall look into it.
