Hi, I'm new to fountain pens and was interested in all of the pens that you showed. This was very educational. I'm going to check out your other videos now. Nice job! Thank you.
I flew with my two Ecos, one with a thicker ink and one with a thinner, and they didn't leak or burp into the lid at all although I did not try to write during the flight. If you are drawn to the Vac solely for this reason it is not necessary.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. ECOs are awesome pens. I’ve flown many times with many pens and it truly just depends on the flight and weather in how they do. There’s definitely a benefit to a pen like the Vac when traveling or even carrying it around in your bag all the time because of the mechanism to seal it off because fountain pens can leak but it’s definitely not a sole reason to buy a Vac or similar. The Vac is an awesome pen for its size, weight and writing experience. But ECOs and many others are also great choices.
Such a helpful video! I love my TWSBI Mini with EF nib. May have to try a stub! What is the purple ink you used here, and is it waterproof? And, yes, please do a video on that little TWSBI ink well😊💜
GREAT video!! I have the TSWBI Mini and LOVE IT.... It is definitely one of my favorites. Like you, the 580AL is a little heavy for me. I've never heard of the Vac, and will most definitely check it out. Unlike you, I used to make a mess EVERY time I ink a pen, so now I use the syringe method and it works perfectly.
Thank you for this video. I was hoping to buy a mini vac. First one. Have an Eco. Yes to all the possible future videos you mentioned. Take care and God bless!
Any fountain pen ink can be used in a fountain pen. But there are inks that are for dip pens only and you don’t want to use in a FP. I’ll have some more FP related videos up in the coming weeks. :)
I literally have a TWSBI mini on the way to me, but after watching this video I am wondering if it will be too short for me. I do notice that I don't usually post my TWSBI Ecos. The Eco is a bit long, so maybe it will be perfect. Thanks for the detailed video! I think I want a TWSBI mini VAC now.
I think you’ll like the mini. It is a great pen! I’m ordering another one soon! I do post it when writing for longer periods of time but for quick notes and such I dont have issues and I have larger hands for a girl so I can use a larger pen without I issue. So excited for your new pen!
@@JustScribble Thank you for your kind response! I am excited about the new Mini..but just saw another review that showed the Mini next to the Eco, and the section is larger in diameter than the Eco, and I am wondering if it will feel too big? Do you notice a difference when you hold the Mini or the Eco as far as width of the pen when you grip it?
You never want to store a pen nib down. Storing them horizontally or nib up is always recommended. I store all my TWSBI pens nib up as I keep them in cups together - my ECOs are in one cup together and my other TWSBI models are in a separate cup. They always work great. But most of my pens I store horizontally. Also be aware of how you carry them when traveling or commuting. Keeping them in a pen case that you can keep nib up in your tote/bag is preferred. If your pen goes nib down in your bag and gets jostled around when you are out and about it can cause the pen to burp when you right with it once you get to your destination.
It’s called an automatic pen. Mostly found in Europe but some online sites sell them. I got this at a small art store. Last I checked Paperinkarts.com had them :)
Last I heard the new mini was coming in the fall but I don't know if the pandemic has caused any delays or changes in their timeline. Years ago TWSBI had some issues with their pens cracking. However they upgraded materials and those notorious issues became a thing of the past. That said if you tighten your cap too tight or the butt of the pen after filling it - you can cause cracking but you really have to overtighten to do that and there's no reason to make them that tight. I will say - if for some reason you do have issues with your pen they have AMAZING customer service. Philip at TWSBI is awesome and they will work with you go get your pen fixed or send replacement parts to you.
Thank you for this video! Very clear! I'm wondering to buy the mini vac but I hear that the ink tend to dry and there are "start and stop " of the pen....Is this true? Regards Matteo
The Vac mini has a shut off valve so many people don’t use that properly and find they have issues bc they are writing when it’s closed. But I’ve never had that problem. I really enjoy it.
Thank you for another great and helpful video! I didn't quite catch the name of that goldish ink. Is it campfire by Robert Foster? I looked it up, but I couldn't find it. It seems just marvelous to me, but I fear that I might not get it easily here in Austria, as some brands don't seem to be available that easily in Europe, and I'm not a huge fan of international shipping (above all, for obvious, environmental reasons). Still, I'd like to try getting myself a bottle of it. Again, thanks for the video and for your effort! My fairly new Twsbi (so far, just Ecos) collection is growing fast. :)
Yes it is Robert Oster campfire. It was exclusive to Phidon Pens back in January 2019 so I'm not sure you can find it anymore but you can always reach out to them to see if they have any. They are based in Ontario so I'm not sure what shipping would look like to Austria. I believe Robert Oster may be harder to find in Europe - it's pretty big in Australia and here in the US a lot of shops have it too. Glad you enjoyed the video. TWSBIs make a pretty regular appearance on my channel so you'll definitely see more of them!
@@JustScribble Thank you, I'll try to find that ink, or something similar. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Twsbi and ink related content! Right now I'm in love with Platinum Carbon Black, because of its deep and rich black and its waterproof and lightfast (hence: archival) properties, which may come in handy in everyday use. I've read a lot about concerns regarding pigment inks and clogging, but Platinum Carbon Black seems to be a rather fountain pen friendly ink, so cleaning the pen every month or two should do. I just entered the world of fountain pens and inks and I really enjoy discovering new colors and brands :)
No I have not had any cracking issues with the mini or any of my TWSBIs. TWSBI did have a lot of pens that had cracking problems years ago - with their 530/540 models but they changed some materials and methods in making their pens and most of those issues have gone away since that change/improvement. Of course - overtightening your pen does risk cracking the threads - so you shouldn't overtighten the cap (and there's no need to). But no I haven't had any cracking issues with mine - and I do carry them out and about, travel with them and carry them in pen pouches with other pens as well.
I'm happy to help! Let me know if you run into any questions once you get it. I have some other TWSBI videos coming out in the next couple of weeks too - different models but they are still helpful I think :)
@@JustScribble I got it the other day, it was delivered with micro cracking and I’m already in the process of returning it. Never again for twsbi for me, I already ordered a lamy studio lx instead. Thanks again for the help though.
That's very odd. That's not common at all and hasn't been an issue in about 6 years before they changed processing. I'm sorry you got one that was damaged. They do have amazing customer service. I hope you like your Lamy Studio LX. Another pen I love that's has demonstrators is Opus. If you are looking for a demonstrator in the future. I'll be sharing my Opus pens on a video later this year.
TWSBI has some issues years ago with that. Although they have excellent customer service and helped those that reached out. But they have changed their materials and that’s not really an issue anymore. That said many cracking issues were caused by user issues - tightening it too tight when filling and capping.
Loved the comparisons and the new fancy editing!
That was a really great, comprehensive video. Thank you for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, upper class level tutorial! Very helpful.
Thank you!
Thanks for showing the TWSBI inkwell. Now I understand its utility.
Also Tokyo Pen Shop may have them too! Good video. I would like to see the videos you mentioned today. Thanks
Added to my list :)

@@JustScribble Great, I look forward to watching them. I just ordered the Twsbi Mini Mint Blue last night and am excited to receive it.

I'll add that to my video list for November!

Added to my list for next month!
Where did you get the ink bottle stamps? TFS the comparison. That JHerbin inks looks interesting.
I bought them off Etsy. etsy.me/2Xlmoqq
