This is the biggest thing people don't understand about "American culture" from the outside. "American culture" is like saying "Asian culture"...it doesn't really exist or mean much. Each population center is deep enough in culture where it's essentially its own national identity. California is so big and culturally rich that even the state isn't a single identity, nobody says they're "Californian". It's Norcal and Socal, but people really claim their city. The US is incredibly culturally deep even though we've existed for a relatively short time, it's hard to understand from the outside. It's like the country experienced accelerated aging.

From 1995 to about 1997 I did security in Monterey Park, Alhambra, Rosemead, Pasadena and Hacienda Heights in Southern California. I worked a few different locations like Chinese restaurants and Karaoke Clubs. One place was in South Pasadena on Colorado Blvd., The property was a small center and the Karaoke Club was way in the back next to the Ramada Inn. We had different Asian gangs come in but a group of Wah Chings were there on a regular basis. There were fights from time to time and after a man from Taiwan that was visiting was beaten pretty bad the city stepped in and closed the place down. I was told there was two different Wah Chings in the area, the Chinese gang and the Vietnamese gang.
In San Gabriel Valley in the 1990s there were several Wah Ching Sides like - Taiwanese Side, Ken Side, Paul Side, Sunny Side, (these are the original Sides), Monterey Park Side, Alhambra Side, Ocean Side, and Hitman Group. San Francisco Chinese Mafia had ties back to China 🇨🇳 and had a lot of things going down. they also had a lot of buff with street gangs; they would knock them down. I remember going to China about 14 years ago and you will still see some young kids out there saying fireworks and what every you needed. I even saw a shrimp boy walking around when he was doing his community thing till he got locked up. He was on toes for reals because he was on me when walking by him. he was with some African people that were dressed up from Africa in cultural clothes. It shows you he was making big moves. They're missing a lot of information videos he post but got to give him the credit for doing some research
You should've explained more on the rope and strangulation murders. Explain more on what happened cuz I couldn't really understand what you were saying but I kind of figured it out
I had tons of friends that grew up in PY. This one story my friend told me always stood out. Him and his homie found some fireworks and set them off. Some Jackson Boys came up to them and asked where they got it from and my friend said they bought it. The gang members check their stash and noticed it was missing. So they started chasing my friend and his friend. They got pretty close until my friend’s mom came out and threatened To call the cops if they don’t leave. Another story is a friend was out tagging and crossed out a tag from either 21 boys or Jackson, forgot which one. One of the members came up and threatened to beat his ass until another guy noticed my friend cause they went to elementary school together. They gave them warning instead of an ass beating.
If you can find it, read Chinese Playground by Bill Lee. It does more in-depth about the Chinatown gang culture. There was even a hit out for the author
Nah in California they have some Asian upper class neighborhoods who also have gangs they are involved in drugs , gambling, prostitution etc… and this members are actually from well off families who are educated and wealthy. One of the Samsung heirs got caught a few years ago trying to smuggle drugs into the country in her private airplane.

@@snowman5105 I remember hearing about those. Massage parlors used to use them to hide the girls during raids
Love these stories bro I got one for you how about Sunnydale vs tower side bro it’s a lot of bodies that got dropped from that beef

Did you know the "Ping Boys" who sold firecrackers.

This is actually hella interesting. You should check out the book White Devil, it’s about this white dude that joined the wha Ching
People really need to understand just how desperate poverty can make ANYONE. This is why stuff like this goes down.
