Interesting insights here. Direct Call/SMS is and has always been the ultimate competition. Thats why Jiji works. Social e-commerce is growing and accessible but still the ultimate competition is Direct Call/SMS. Its very weird to observe but the only way to thrive is something that supports and rides on Direct Call but not replace it.
Very tough but insightful discussion. Kudos guys 👏

Last year around the same We built and launched a marketplace with a friend here in Eldoret , Wueh it didnt go well were both techincal we built the mobile apps for users, vendor and the web, ooh the product was clean or atleast we thought it was. Not to discourage you guys but all the best vendy theres too much to learn about this market its capital intensive, well theres to much buttons to press you need to convince vendors which it self is a big moutain to climb ,then the users. From my experiences no matter how good the product is theres a learning curve to this particular niche.

Good show. Consider finding another name other than the fish tank. You don't want everyone calling you the Shark Tank clone. Start Up Soko will do just fine or whatever else you got. Also let viewers know the goal of the video. Are you guys VCs and he's seeking funds from you? Or are you just giving him constructive ctiticism?

    • @startupsoko
      @startupsoko  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Thanks! Good questions :) When the production team was thinking about how to do this we needed to be really honest with ourselves:
      1. We are not sharks, we are fish - maybe piranha's. We are okay to be called knock-off's of Shark Tank because tukiomoka that is what we want to be.
      2. There are many innovators/ideas in campus or coming out of campus who are just looking for advice to help steer their idea in the right direction .They are not looking for funding yet. Very very few VC's, accelerators etc will give these "inexperienced" founders the time of day.
      3. We are not a VC - Tumesota . Money not the only way to add value . We do the work of understanding your idea and curating a panel who can give you feedback.
      4. We understand the power of quality production to attract viewers to view our content which leads anyone who is pitching to get even more diverse feedback from viewers and it is a marketing opportunity the founders pitching. Sometimes a viewer may invest in the idea or even mentor the founder.
      5. We aim to educate and entertain
      I hope this helps!

OK, this was very hard to watch. Maybe the guy needs some little help to build on his idea but this panel is being extremely unpleasant. There are so many people with brilliant ideas and they need some little help to get them there, they could use some objective feedback. But the panel is talking the poor guy down, nothing constructive at all. Telling the guy to drink whiskey and take the domain down? LOL! I wonder what the aim of this show is. Hope it's not tearing people down for views. Sad.

Being an analyst is funny, expert filled with book theories nothing practical and a know it all ego. Listening to chris hysterical laugh pains my ears. This podcast could be something but with this trajectory i expect otherwise. Expecting young guys to appear here to be humiliated with analyst with no successful startup under his belt is low. Why dim the guys light, shooting down every idea and potraying him as minute is sad.
Theme the podcast to be about building not destroying.
Why is it all doom and gloom, for one to build something esp a startup you got to be cautiously delulu otherwise all this analysis will lead to paralysis.
And chris just delete the nonsense replies to some of the comments.

My money is on this guy. He might not get the clear path but i am sure if he starts it, he will come up with solutions on the go..
I would rather the panel tell him that they are not interested than laugh at him... That is more motivation. And when he makes it, the internet doesn't forget
Instead of laughing, just be professional and correct him where he is wrong
