- What is electrospray ionization?
How does ESI work?
How to stabilize an electrospray?
ESI stands for Electro-Spray Ionization.
Ionization efficiency and ionization stability are important in mass spectrometry because the quality of the data depends ion the quality of the spray.
Electrospray and nano-electrospray are used for proteomics and metabolomics. Scientists and analytical chemists invest a lot of their time to get stable sprays.
I made and filmed an electrospray to show what is does when is stable, and what happens when it is unstable. This video is a hands-on introduction to electrospray ionization.

I really enjoyed that u were having fun while explaining this. Good job.
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed :)
This is the best ESO expansion i heard so far, I hope we will see more videos in the near future.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot gizmo gizmo. I plan to make more videos, just have to find the time 😅
Thank you so much there's not a lot of good videos on electrospray ionisation I hope it covers everything on my test
Thanks! I wish you the best for your exam :)
Great representation,it made easy to understand 👍👍
What an interesting video. Thank you for this content, and hope to see more from you.
Thanks Alex B for the positive note. I plan to come back to making more videos.
fun way to learn thank you for making it interesting
Thanks Anwar for the feedback. I would like to make more videos. Just have to find the time 😅
This is truly great work.
Thanks MassSpec,
Hi interesting video i work as spectrometer in hplc, particularly metabolomic. I interesting in bioinformátic to metabolomic. Thanks again
Wonderful Video! Thank you so much for this!
Thanks a lot to you, Ron!
I think youtube is a great place to post educational content. Let's see how the channel goes :)
Thanks for the video!! Great knowledge and very helpful!!
That is the Idea Javy!
SO nice video. thanks
Thanks :)
a really good explanation! thank you so much! :))))
Yeah, now I know how the world works. Thank you for the vid.
Great explanation
Buenísimo, haha y la referencia al unicornio en microfluidos
I want to know about the negative electrospray ionization. Why corona discharge occurs in detail !!
fantastic video....
Thanks for your comment. Glad you liked it :)
¡ Muy interesante!
The video is really interesting and easy to understand . Could u please explain why ESI is best suitable for analysis of polar compounds
Good idea for a future video. I'll try to resume the channel soon :)
@@playingwithions Hi.I am a purification scientist .I find ur videos really amazing.wouod be happy if u continue doing videos on these topics
Could u pls explain what happens when vinegar is added
Can you recommend the whole setup (machine) for electro spraying. Which company is better with better efficiency. Name of company and model number of device.
Hi Trending, Thanks for your comment! The ionization efficiency in nano-electrospray depends on the emitter. The ion source provides positioning, voltage, connection to the MS, and so on. In short, the ion source of your MS should work fine. If you are interested in performance, choose the best emitters. Fossiliontech sells and ships worldwide. You can check the nano-esi emitters here: www.fossiliontech.com/nanoesi-emitters
Amazingggggg.....
Interestinggggg.....
Thanks for commentinggggg... 😉
Teşekkürler
fun. good job.
Great video, I like your model. How are you apllying the voltage on the "sample" when is your capilary made from plastic? Thank you.
Hi kubasmetana5525! The voltaje was applyed by inserting a metalic pin in the tube. The voltage is applied to the pin, which is in contact with the liquid.
For chain ejection long molecules are rejected due to what?
In chain ejection, long molecules are ejected due to Coulomb repulsion. A key difference between chain ejection and ion evaporation is that the energy required to eject each link is lower than the energy required to eject the entire molecule at once. I hope this helps! :)
Nice video! I noticed that sometimes the mass spec in our lab doesn't generate ionized droplets, in other words, the liquid can not be emitted into the orifice. We apply 3 kV but the signal is always not stable. Do you have any ideas?
Hi! There are several factors affecting the stability of the spray. Have a look at these videos:

Am I the only one enjoying the scotch joke?
I hope not!
what is a droplet?, sorry for my question
Hi Evelyn. A droplet is a small drop. A drop is this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_(liquid)
@@playingwithions thank you so much
