    He forgot to explain why the king cannot take the knight. If the king takes the knight, a checkmate can be forced from there.

      Bobby Fischer? You have a TH-cam channel? That's bizarre. I am a Chess pro and I do Bobby Fischer's strategy but not the Bishop to B3. I also do Bishop to F4 instead of Bishop to E3

    When white pushes pawn to e-5 why move black knight to f-8? U could move black Knight to h5 instead and black queen would not get trapped. Good vid tho! I might try this

    No, it is not, the line then goes like this: Qd5 Kf5, e6 and the king has 2 options, Kf5 leads to Ne4# and Kg4 leads to Qg5#. :)

    Actually that is not entirely true. After white pushes the pawn to F3, black can simply push his pawn to G5 and have an escape route.

    He forgot to tell that if black takes the bishop with the king, and then taking the knight on e6 also with the king, it is actually a mate in 5/6 pattern:
    12. Qd5+, Kf5. 13. g4+, Kxg4. 14. Rg1+, Kh5 {14... Kh4. 15. Qe4+
    [15.Bg5+, Kh5
    (..Kh3. 16. Qg2#).
    16. Qd1+, Rf3. 17. Qf3#],
    15. ...Rf4
    (15... Kh5. 16. Qg4#).
    16. Qxf4+ Kh5.
    17 Qg5# (17. Qg4#)}.
    15. Qg2, d6. 16. Qg5#.
    in the end, on move 15 are many threats of mate in 1 regardless of what black does. If black doesn't move the pawn on d7 we have mate with Qh3, Qg4, and if black does move the pawn, we have the mate that I stated there.

    • @DorePaixao
      @DorePaixao 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gabriel Edery I think the 1mate move is basicly this:
      after king takes knight, white moves queen to d5.
      with queen in d5 king cant move back to f7, and it also cant move to f6 because of the pawn in e5. Also if the king takes the d5queen, the c3 knight takes him out. I think this is what ahmad meant, but i dont know that much about chess anyway, so I might be wrong :)

    • @gaby.edery90
      @gaby.edery90 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jaime Jordan After Qd5+ the king goes to f5 (which is the only square available for the black king) as i stated in the analysis, which means that it is not a mate in 1 because the king has an escape route (which will only last for 5 more moves as I also stated in the analysis).

    For those who would like to know, taking the knight at 7:07 leads to a rather quick checkmate: Kxe6, Qd5, Kf5, e6+, Kf4... After this the game can end in a number of different ways that if you're creative enough, you should figure out.

      It should be pretty obvious to anyone that isn't a complete beginner that walking your king to the middle of the board in that situation will lead to mate very soon. If you're watching this video in hopes of learning specific opennings you should be above beginner level.

      Obviously it seems like a bad idea but it's still nice for the commentator to show the mate line. In this situation it's hard to mess up as white but there are situations in chess where the king looks in peril after some sacrifices yet with inaccurate play the king can escape danger with the defender suddenly being up pieces and back to a winning position

    • @brianvaughan4163
      @brianvaughan4163 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mwuesse no. If every single contingent move was fully explained the video lessons would become too long, too boring and overwrought. A good mid to advanced level lesson should beg student to engage and think for themselves. That's also part of the fun.

    • @Mwuesse
      @Mwuesse 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The video would maybe be 15 seconds longer, I fail to see how it would suddenly become boring and overwrought. Many people enjoy long videos with different lines explored - as can be seen in success by KC channel when he did longer videos and by agdamator's channel these days. Nobody asks for every line to be covered but it's nice to see some of the interesting variations.

    "Early on in the game, you typically favor bishops over knights." Sorry, but I actually disagree. You favor bishops over knights in the endgame, assuming that the bishop is able to do something and is not being held at bay by pawns. Bishop against knight in the opening isn't really much of an advantage.

    • @zeus1141
      @zeus1141 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      the real answer... bishops or knights get their value of the position being played at hand. you cannot say "bishops are good at end game" because it is possible to have the wrong bishop for the end game... then a knight would be better than the wrong bishop

Bishops travel more quickly than knights when allowed to do so, although that doesn't guarantee that the bishop is better. It means that in a random endgame position with a bishop against a knight, the bishop is more likely to be the better piece.

      @gabrielreinalter2269 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GoUtes92 In high level play that is not true. For a biginner the knight is more valueable because he has simple tactics like the fork and even newer player find it harder to calculate them. But Bobby Fischer himself said that the knight is 3 points and the bishop 3 2/5.

    I love playing chess with against people like me who don't study it or learn the moves becasue chess has lost all sense of strategy since it's creation. Not to offend anyone but because both players have the same number and type of pieces bothe are exactly equal, creating the problem where after a time all of the strategies will have been found out and it loses a sense of strategy and becomes a game of who knows more strategies and who can enact a better one first.
    But if you don't study chess and you play with someone else who doesn't study chess it is an amizing game where both players are making decision about the pieces without a plan for the end game and are reacting to each others moves

      leonard alvaro Qd5 will allow the black king to escape to f5, but that would only prolong the obvious checkmate, which white will deliver using the deadly sequence of e6 (discovered check), followed by Bg5++ (1-0). Black can only prolong the mate by playing Be5 (post the discovered check), but that would not serve the purpose for any longer

    Whenever a trap contains an obvious out like KxN on e6 and it isn't covered, you know that's a bad idea. At that point it becomes a chess problem for us to work out. Of course it leads to an inevitable mate. It's just not an easy one.

  • @Kaysar777
    @Kaysar777 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    For anyone wondering why didn't black king capture the white knight on e6 at 7:09 :
    1. White queen to d5 - check, black king has the only move to f5.
    2. White pawn to g4 - check, black king has the only move to capture it.
    3. White rook to g1 - check,
    black king can move to f5 - which leads to white rook to g5 checkmate;
    or black king can move to h5 - which leads to white queen to g2 and then simple checkmate with the white rook and the white queen, no matter what move black makes;
    or black king can move to h4 - which leads to white dark square bishop to g5 - check, if black king moves to h5, then white queen to d1 check, black blocks with the rook, white queen captures the rook and checkmate, else :D black king moves h3 then white queen to g2 checkmate;
    or black king can move to h5 - which leads to white queen to g2, black king to h4, white queen to g4 - checkmate! :D
    So, as you can see black king will be checkmated no matter what if he captures the white knight on e6.

    TO EVERYONE THAT DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE KING CAN'T TAKE THE KNIGHT: Here is why that won't work: after black king takes white rook- white queen to D5, then black king only has one spot, after moving there white pushes pawn to E6, then black king has one more spot left, then bishop to D4 = checkmate.
    This guy really wasn't thinking when he made this video, of course not everyone would figure that out, there are many noobs watching this so he should have explained a move that didn't have an obvious 1 move follow up to the people that don't play this that well.

    Everyone is discussing the possibliity of Kxe6 after Ne6. This move fails after this fantastic combination. Qd4+, Kf4, g4! King must take or it's checkmate. The line continues Kxg4, Rb1+ and no matter where the king moves it's going to be mate. If Kf4, then Rg5#. If Kh3 then Rg3+, Kh4, Qe4+, Kh5, Qg4#. If instead of Kh4 Kxh2, Qg2#. If Kh4 then Qe4+, Kh3, Qg4+, Kxh2, Qg2#. If instead of Kh3 Kh5 Qg4#.If Kh5 then Qg2. This cute silent move(not a check) threatens mate on 3 squares(g4, g5, and h3) and it's impossible to stop them all. The main obvious threat is Qg5#, but if you attempt to stop it with e6, then just Qg4#.If you try to stop Qg4# with d6, then just Qg5#. All of these lines completely shut out the idea of Kxe6. You might as well be playing the position down a queen.

  • @ianpan0102
    @ianpan0102 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    As another comment has mentioned, the reason that the black king can't take the knight is because there will be a forced mate in 6 moves.
    1... Kxe6 2. Qd5+ Kf5 3. g4+ Kxg4 4. Rg1+ Kh4 5. Bg5+
    Kh5 6. Qd1+ Rf3 7. Qxf3#

  • @KR-rj7vf
    @KR-rj7vf 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    For those saying 11...Kxe6: this leads to mate after at most 7 forcing moves from white. (e.g. 12. Qd5+ Kf5 13. g4 Kxg4 14. Qe4 Kh5 15. Rg1 d6 16. Rg5+ Kh6 17. Rg4+ Kh5 18. Rh4#). This is a very cool yet complicated line, for which I am sure Fischer prepared, but getting even one of the moves wrong means that the black King escapes and white is left down two minor pieces. Risky business (cue Tom Cruise).

  • @rafaeloman1

    I have solved it, if Kxe6 then 1. Qd5+ Kf5 2. e6+ (Here the variations) Kf6 3. Ne4+ Kg6 4. Qg5++ (1-0) the second option in the variation is Kg4, but simply Qg5 and it's checkmate again. (Please sorry my english)

  • @Alblasker
    @Alblasker 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see multiple comments that the knight can be captured by the King after 11. Ne6. This leads to a mate in 6 moves which any chess engine can calculate out for you, like Stockfish for the iPhone. The mating line is 11. .. Kxe6? 12. Qd5+ Kf5 (forced, as it's the only square). 13. g4+ Kxg4 (again forced, only square). 14. Rg1+ and now if Kh5 or then Qg2 and black cannot cover both mating squares. 14. ... Kh3 is no good either, 15. Qg2+ Kh4 16. Qg4#. Finally 14. Kh4 loses to 15. Bg5+, Kh3 leads to Qg2# and Kh5 is answered by 16. Qd1+ Rf3 (forced, only move), 17. Qxf3#
    When watching these videos online follow along using a chess engine for maximum value - it can show you lines like this that masters and grandmasters consider too obvious to discuss. And, occassionally, you'll be watching a video and the chess engine will point out something they missed, which happens more than it should since they have access to the engines too.

    you forgot f5 .... the king can move to f5, but its checkmate after 5 moves .... after Qd5+ Kf5, g4+ KXg4, Rg1+ Kh4, Qe4+, Kh3, Qg4+ KXh2, Qg3# ...
    sure, one cud just move the pawn at e5 to e6, opening a discovered check, and if the king moves to either f6 or g5, it becomes checkmate.. but before moving to f6 or g5, black can block the check with the bishop, and stop the checkmate threat....
    you need to see the board before thinking ahead of a million moves....

    Sorry, not easy mate in three, I goofed ._. , however white can still force mate. After g4+ forcing Kg4, white plays Rg1+ (black only has Kf5,Kh5,Kh4 and Kh3)
    If Kf5 then Rg5++
    If Kh5 then Qd1+ ,If Rf3, then simply Qf3+ , and whether Kh4 after or without black rock move, then Qg4++
    If Kh3 then Qg2+, and then Kh4,Qg4++
    If Kh4 then Bg5+ works fastest in this variation. If reply is Kh3 then Qg2++ and if Kh5 then Qd1+, Rf3, Qf3++

  • @gpportela

    where is the "easy to find" moves? all I can see is a forced draw, the mate would be like this: Ke6, Qd5+, Kf5, g4+, Kg4, h3+, Kh5, Qd1+, Kh4 then Qg4++, but this mate only happens if Kh5, black still have plenty of options to avoid this mate plus he can force a draw, so it's not 100% chance of winning for white if king takes knight on e6.
    If you have a 100% sure mate please tell me because I couldn't find that.

  • @FlyerKBOS
    @FlyerKBOS 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    1. Here's a beginner take on all this (go easy on me). LOL, after reading comments it seems same question puzzles everyone's mind. At 6:57 we are told queen will not escape, but WHY??? I was SO puzzled why king cannot simply take attacking knight Kxe6 I used computer to calculate moves. Reason is at best continuation mate follows in 6 moves. Seeing it was IMHO THE entire point of the trap. Comment skipped pointing to this completely while 6 moves combination is w/o doubt anything but obvious.

  • @FlyerKBOS
    @FlyerKBOS 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    2. Here are all lines of it: 12. Qd5+ Kf5 13. g4+ Kxg4 14. Rg1+ Kh4 15. Bg5+ Kh5 16. Qd1+ Rf3 17. Qxf3#. I read once Bobby F was very predicable, however depth of his preparation made impossible for opponent to exploit his style knowledge. Such seems the case here. In my beginner take at 2:32 Bc4 look bit bold, while next move which follows after blacks castling at 2:40 bishop moves to corner Bc2, as comment says moves he loved to play to put pressure on week pawn at f7, looks plainly risky.

  • @FlyerKBOS
    @FlyerKBOS 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    3. From beginner's prospective white bishop cornered itself on risky position, from which any quick escape is impossible now, should attack develop. It seems black sees it and tries to capitalize on it by attacking bishop with Na5. It was the trap, only problem in order to see it as such you have to be able to make (explained earlier) mate calculation which is 10 moves (!!!) ahead now. Essence of this trap is attacking king from distance ranks making threat to king hard to see ahead.

  • @Sveshnikov770
    @Sveshnikov770 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is NOT the Fischer trap!!! Fischer played this against Sammy Reshevsky in 1958 and only after reading about the trap in several Russian chess mags is had smuggled to him. There were several dozen Russian Grandmasters as well as masters who implemented this. They all new Na5 was bad and recommend d6 as the best continuation for black. NOT the Fischer trap at all, he just made it famous.

  • @MrJimshot1990
    @MrJimshot1990 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    A quicker way, better way would be to just move G4 to check the King. He would be forced to take the pawn. Then white brings his Rook to G1 which essentially guarantees some form of checkmate. If the King retreats to F5 then white brings his rook to G5 and it's mate. If King moves to H4 or H5 then white Queen drops back to place a check or pawn moves up to check and then finish with a Queen fall back to F3 for mate.

  • @MrJimshot1990
    @MrJimshot1990 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    From what I can see, just looking at it very briefly, it looks like if he captures with his King then white can bring his Queen up to D5, check the black King. Black is forced to move to F5 which puts him in a very bad position; just two moves from checkmate. White just needs to bring his pawn to H3 and then another pawn to G4 and it's mate. Obviously there are things black could do to slow/stop this but it's definitely a dangerous position for black to be in.

  • @TheMostOr1ginalName
    @TheMostOr1ginalName 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The next move for white would probably be Queen to D5 which would force the king into the center of the board by itself. Needless to say that's a horrible position for the king and while white will be down a knight, it would be very hard to recover from such an open position. I mean it is possible but I'm assuming a grandmaster/master would really capitalize on the advantage. I honestly, though, have no idea how I would play the white game after I pushed his king into the middle of the board.

  • @sparkyk24

    1.Qd5. Black's only move is 1. ... Kf5, followed by 2. Pe6, If 2. ... Kf6 then 3. Bg5 Checkmate. If 2. ... Be5 Then maybe 3. Pg4 KxP 4. QxB and, in my opinion, the now one piece that white is down is more than compensated for by the fact that black's king is all out in the middle of enemy territory with no easy way for support! I'm not great at chess, though, so play it out for sure to double check me!

  • @davidpearlman6631
    @davidpearlman6631 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hrm. With the B3 move, it seems a bit premature. The bishop is already putting pressure on F7. Moving it to B3 doesn't increase the pressure at all. If you can lure Black's knight to A5, than you can gain control of the center of the board as you've outlined. But if they don't fall for the trap, you've wasted a move. Especially if Fischer was on record setting this trap in the past, it seems that only bad players would fall into it, while good players would gain an advantage from the lost move.

    Jesus it was confusing looking at the paused youtube video and trying to think about that!
    Had to take the board out (guess I am so terrible, yeah)
    So, the longest route for king to live is:
    Qd5 Kf5 g4 Kxg4 Rg1 Kh5 Qf3 Kh4 Qg4 - Checkmate.
    If black king goes to h3 when rook checks, Rg3 Kh2 Qg2 - checkmate.

  • @redhead5222

    If black king captures knight, white queen to d5, check. Black king has to go to f5. White then moves its e5 pawn to e6, check. The king can only go to f6 or g4. If black king goes to f6, white bishop to g5 is checkmate. If Black King goes to g4, white queen to g5 is checkmate.
    Either way, if King captures knight, it's checkmate in 3 moves for white.

  • @Sulpine01

    regardless, having your king beyond the line of pawns is a death sentence. Even if you do not get checkmated, the other player is going to force you to constantly move your king, giving him a leap of tempo and better development of his pieces. A queen is an inconvenience, but an unprotected king is disastrous.

    Beleskiy- I thought the same (KxN), but if Fishers Q moves to d5x. This move would be an obnoxious cat and mouse game between black K and white Q around whites e5 pawn, B e3, and N c3. In which I am sure Fisher would have avoided. In my Q e5 scenario, after KxN, this may not be the best move, but is one example with a quick ending. Already, black is in a losing position. Especially, after blacks pieces were taken earlier on without having been fully developed, somewhat pinning blacks Q, and with a weak black N on the rim. Continuing with the Q d5 scenario, obviously, Fishers trap gives him great advantage for a quick ending. However, it is possible that in the end, my hypothetical Fishers Qd5 could represent a draw or a forfeit for the opponent, or a draw for Fisher. So in a way, I agree, the outcome would have been different if KxN, but I think the battle would be a lost cause to the opponent.

    So..... I am not a "chess player" according to Chessmaster I keep a solid rank of 1033 but the next guy up annihilates me , But I wanted to see how practical these traps are and setup a match with some of the highest rank in Chessmaster 10 - 6 in total and NOT once (after the 3rd move) fell for the "trap". I though "Maybe even these high ranking player are not prepared fo "accelerated dragon" and went into the grand master Karpov, Morphy, Spassky and again after the 3rd move all goes to hell and my "eye down" on F7 turned into a run for my life. So.. when we talk about traps or genious moves it is all dependant on what the opponent will do hence maybe the "trap" worked once and then throw it away cause you will never again face the positional scheme that may the trap work. If it is something you do all the time now keeping you out of the eye on F7 (as something Fisher LOVED) is maybe a two move effort to make it crumble. My question and I appologize for the long winded set up. What exactly is the benefit of this if ALL depends on how your opponent plays. Please to the chess pros (who god damn can get emotional) chill please, unless it is constructive It is a QUESTION!

  • @irahance686

    The king can take the knight by using the bishop to escape (in this variation). Of course g4+ can negate all this.
    K e6 (taking the kn), Q d5 check, K f5, pawn to e6 check, (Don't move the king here) B e5, Q e4 check, K f6, Kn d5 check, K g7, Q e5 check (taking the bishop), K g8, B h6, Kn f6, Kn e7 check (taking the pawn), Q e7 taking the kn, B f8 (taking the rook), Q f8 (retaking the bishop), Q a5 (taking the kn on the rim), pawn e6 (taking pawn).
    Now variations from this can start as soon as the third queen check (Qe4). But at this point, white is up a pawn and a rook. Black has 2 minor pcs to 0 for white and the black pawn chain is broken in the center. White still hasn't castled though. Although a very effective trap, a defense can be mounted from that position given white's complete lack of development of its rooks or remaining pawns.

    After the white plays Ne6, why didn't black Kf7xNe6 ? That would have broken the momentum of white and saved his queen.

    If Qd5, Kf5; wouldn't Qe4 be checkmate? The king can't go to f6 because of the pawn, he can't capture the pawn because it's protected by the queen, he can't go to g5 because of the dark bishop, and he can't go to f4 or g4 because of the queen, and he can't capture the queen because of the knight.

    You might be right but I think the point is that the bishop is in a very weak spot. This move isn't based around that trap, it's just a possible continuation. I sort of like it because it takes away the possibility of the opponent kicking the bishop around to gain initiative.

    I won a game using this trap after reading Levy's book about Fischer. My game followed this game except I hadn't castled. My opponent resigned though after Bxf7+ Kxf7 Ne6 1-0 This was in 2008 and I talked about Fischer then and the next day the news came he had died.
    What must be realised is that Fischer found this trap in Shakmaty. He studied chess a lot and found this in Soviet analysis. But he was probably the first GM to spring the trap. Reshevsky was the victim. In fact he fought on for a long time. I believe that Reshevsky and Fischer had an approximately equal score against each other overall.

    I think Bobby's bishop to B3 is to prevent: ... Nxe4, Nxe4 Pd5, forking the bishop and knight to win the exchange and break into the center with tempo.

    Right, Anthony Ciulla, didn't see your post. Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking.
