The book you are mentioning is Demian by Herman Hesse. A lot of it is built upon the ideas and images of Carl Jung - that we are made up of both positive (good) and negative (evil) forces and we must learn to recognize that both are within us - through psychoanalysis, opening up to one's unconciousness. Btw, wait till you show her the Japanese BST mv - that will really confuse her :D

As for me it wasnt hard to pick a bias. I saw Jhope in Bulletproof pt2 in 2015 and I was gone. It was my 1st time watching BTS and my 1st video and the second I saw him fold himself backwards like a dam accordion I immediately needed to know all about him.
After seeing his story and knowing that outta the whole group he was the one getting the most hate and the one who had to work the hardest to at least gain some fans really touched my heart. I was already into him in the video but knowing who he was and how kind, gentle and just amazingly talented he was I fell full into him and i've never been bias wrecked.
Hoseok is just so special I can't explain it and his dancing and singing is the most versatile in the group. Instead of one voice he has like 5 ways of singing or rapping and he doesnt dance WITH the music he IS the music. And when he's live performing??? OMG it gives goosebumps!

Boy meets Evil and Wings was something nobody saw coming, tbh. Wings Era was wild, their first Daesang I still remember Yoongi breaking down and Hobi taking him into his Arms, Namjoons Tears. Back when we still thought Jin made all the 6 Members up in his head, just for Bighit to pull a Doctor Who time whiney thing with us, lmao.
oh you spoiled us today hahah, i hope you're enjoying the bts rabbithole. it's a huge art dive, basically. wings era was the trendsetter for so much of kpop visually wise imo... the standard for elegant aesthetics rose up a lot with blood, sweat and tears and the wings shorts kind of were the blueprint for a lot of groups' storylines nowadays.

Masterpiece of an album and concept that no one foresaw. The Kpop industry has been trying to catch up ever since, they just cant match what BTS were and what they became. New Kpop videos still have elements of BST in them. Iconic albums, Solo projects , Tours, collabs , Advertising . Dispute it if you want but these are 7 of the worlds finest and most gifted performers and they haven't hit the top of their game yet! So glad my daughter introduced me to them and so happy to be ARMY!
Excellent comment and very informative! This is the reality that many newer Kpop fans don't get. These kind of concepts and storylines didn't really exist before BTS did it. Some kpop groups had gimmicks, especially from SM but those usually got dropped and weren't too deep. A whole drama storyline throughout an album with lore through multiple albums and platforms ...that was new. And yes, so many other kpop groups have attempted to copy this since.

BST was also the reason I become an ARMY. The chokehold this mv has on me. I'm not even mad of you guys keeps on going back. I'm enjoying this so much, It's like watching it for the first time. I miss OT7 even more.

OZLEM AND ESOSA, are you ready to know all the meanings behind this deeply complex storyline? Ozlem might have an idea about it. Welcome back, btw! But anyhow, LET’S GO.
Firstly, the entire concept of the album ‘Wings’ is based on a novel called ‘Demian’ by the German-Swiss author Hermann Hesse. ‘Demian’ tells the story of a young boy named Emil Sinclair as he struggles to find his new self-knowledge in the immoral world and is caught between good and evil as he goes through puberty, which are represented as the light and dark realms. Emil Sinclair describes himself as a bird trying to break free out of his egg, and that’s where the name ‘Wings’ came from.
The members are birds that want to break free. The main philosophical message behind this novel is urging people to accept themselves in order for them to understand the world around them and find freedom. It also encourages that it is completely fine to enjoy things from the realm of darkness, or things one might refer to as evil. The ideas in the book are greatly influenced by Swiss psychiatrist and philosopher Carl Jung, whom inspired Hermann Hesse very much. Besides, all of what RM says in the beginning or end of each video in English are quotes from the book itself!
RM, as the genius he is, decided to incorporate this idea as a concept for this album. RM read more into the ideas suggested in the book and told the members about it. Since the novel was influence by Carl Jung, BTS used the Jungian Archetypes. Similar to MBTIs, the Jungian Archetypes are basic ideologies that identify personalities from each other psychologically and philosophically. There are 12 archetypes, and they are: The Innocent, The Everyman, The Hero, The Outlaw, The Explorer, The Artist, The Ruler, The Magician, The Lover, The Caregiver, The Jester, and The Sage.
Several fans pointed out that each ‘Wings Short Film’ represented an archetype or two, therefore, each member had an archetype. According to the “studies” of ARMY, Namjoon is The Explorer, Jin is The Sage, Yoongi is The Outlaw, Hoseok is The Jester, Jimin is The Everyman, Taehyung is The Innocent, and Jungkook is The Caregiver. They are not 100% accurate, but that’s the conclusion ARMY came up with. It is up to each one’s interpretation at the end of the day. You can see what each archetype defines on Google if you want to. It will help you understand everything I said. I recommend reading BTS’s WEBTOON ‘Save Me’ to understand the entire storyline even better.

I have cried during every one of your videos during this series so far. There is something truly so damn special about BTS that I really can’t put my finger on. I’m a BIG metal head so when I heard them it was so far from what I’m used to. But I’m telling you, there is this pull that they have. Maybe it comes from their true love and passion for music and wanting those who listen to feel something and boy do we! They are truly such a special and unique group. The book is called Demian, you can read it it's not that long and it has all the elements used in the videos of the WINGS era (the painting of Jk, the apple , the picture of the mother holding her child ...).
RM is sooo poetic and even to this day he blows my mind with his lyrics and his voice and everything about him is so Alluring I just love him, it did not take long for me to immediately choose RM as my bias way back in the beginning of 2014 but BTS as a group is why I became ARMY💜

Whenever I hear "Reflection" only thing that comes to my mind is the time when they were in Brazil for their wings tour and while RM was singing his part "I wish I could love myself", after each line Armys chanted "We love you !" but something even more touching than that was how he changed his lyrics to "YES I DO LOVE MYSELF" on stage after hearing Armys chant 💜 I got goosebumps
He went through a lot in those days, so hearing him proudly say "Yes I do love myself" made me respect him even more than I already did. We stan kings.

Also yeah the short films are filled with really obviously lore while the title track is a bit more subtle about it, mostly based on the book Demian, by Herman Hesse, which all of wings is inspired by. And yeah as for the bst mv... I'm pretty sure they wanted us dead when they filmed that- Jimin and taehyung are insane and hobi is for sure the secret killer, him and his facial expressions are a menace. I’m having so much fun with this series, I love to revisit bts mvs and lore trough others, there’s so much content about the bangtan universe that I feel like the music videos are just a visual complementary because most of the info is on the Save Me webtoon, The Notes: the most beautiful moment in life 1 and 2 (books, I’m currently reading the second one), and the game, but there are videos on youtube doing a summary of the story line if you are interested on knowing what is going on on the music videos without reading that much.

After BST, BTS went onslaught and became GODS amongst mortals in Kpop.
You watch their work from the very beginning and their art and creativity reminds you why they are where they are rn. BST was the song that introduced me to them and k-pop in general & no one in k-pop since then has carried a lore out with as much nuance as them imho

Little note about Yoongi's "First Love", that brown piano. My daughter and I went to the BTS Exhibition in LA several years ago and as we turned a corner, there was the brown piano. I literally burst into tears the moment I saw it . The power of his love for music is that strong 😭💜
Wings project was heavily inspired Herman's Hesse "Demian", they each had a solo song on the album and the short start from those themes, the songs, personal stories...
So all connected, how the album is inspired by the book, so the songs, the music videos, the short films are connected to the text of the book, the texts RM is reading at the beginning of each of them.. But also with the BU, cause both the BU and the book are about youth, about the passing from childhood innocence consciousness....

One of the first things fans learn about BTS is they don't mess around when it comes to their music videos. BST is like someone asking what's your temptation, your guilty pleasure, and not being able to choose from the 7 on the table😉. Y'all struggled on this one ... and your 2nd look isn't even over yet 😅. I feel like I would have done the same though if I watched it under the same circumstances. Esosa's bias game has been taken to another level 😂I think now she just needs more content and time. But honestly, with top-tier groups like this one, very hard to stick to one bias from the start and not be wrecked constantly by everyone else. I got into BTS in 2015 when they released "Dope", I watched all their MVs and live stages, I liked Jimin, Suga and RM right away and couldn't choose, then I felt like I was leaning toward Jimin the most. But then "Run" came out and the more I got into the lyrics of their songs, the more I watched their shows and got to know their personalities, I became more mesmerized by Suga and RM. And then just naturally, I started noticing that I am definitely the most attracted to Suga (without being delusional lol). I love and respect ot7, all of them are great people and performers, but just like in life, you just happen to like some people more than others for certain reasons. Until now my bias hasn't changed, on the contrary, the older I get the more I resonate with Yoongi. RM is still a bias wrecker though. Considering the fact, that Esosa named 4 people and 3 of them have been or are my bias, I am very curious to know who she will choose in the end (or who will choose her, to be more precise haha).
But the experience with most of the groups tells me that usually, your first thought on who your bias is is the right thought.

Ok so all the short film’s reference chapters in Damien and all the things Namjoon reads are quotes from the book. The book is about a boy who grew up in a Christian household becoming an adult and losing his innocence, sinning, and being led by another older boy named Damien. You could say Damien is his spiritual guide. Begin is based on when the mc sees a woman in a park and paints her face, later realising that it resembles himself, as well as Damien’s mother. The painting in Begin is of Yoongi, as him and Jungkook have a special relationship with each other. Jimin’s is more symbolic of when the mc sins for the first time, lying to his parents when he steals their money to give to a boy who is bullying him. Stigma has references to Abraxas, the god of pure and evil which is mentioned as a treasured almighty figure in the book Damien. First Love represents piano and Jungkook for Yoongis character. Reflection also references Abraxas (anything with a bird is a reference to Abraxas in this), Mama I can’t really remember 😭 and then Awake has references to Abraxas again, the quote Namjoon read is also from when the mc is sent a painting of a bird struggling to get out of an egg from Damien, and what Namjoon read is what Damien wrote on the painting. 🤯 Also the pet in Blood sweat and tears that Namjoon read is from early in the book when the mc is trying to deny Damien’s advice, and the organ playing references a part in the book when the mc is older and hears an organ playing in a church and walks in just to listen, eventually forming a spiritual connection with the man who plays the church organ. They end up falling out because of having different beliefs
In regards to the BU, yes, they all intertwine & u’ll see crossover imagery, but some are repeatedly more connected to each other. JK & Yoongi are strongly tied together, Jimin & Hoseok, & Tae to Joon. All this with Jin as an outside observer/inside catalyst of events. You get more details of this from the journals & webtoon.

Because of the scene with Jimin - with that choker, in the forefront of the members, the first to sing - BST became ICONIC amongst Army! And it’s also the reason why many people have been sucked down the rabbit hole of BTS!
Jimin’s shoulder ‘reveal’ is HIS iconic move and he does it a lot to this day, lol. And you’re not the first to say that no matter where you pause him in frame, his lines are always perfect!

Speaking of J-Hope's dance in Boy meets Evil- I don't remember if it's the 2019 MMA's? but in one of those award shows, Jimin & J-Hope dance the choreo side by side, and Jimin is blindfolded (like in Lie)... it' s something to see, if you can find it!
