*Postscript: Did you notice how this feels different to my recent TH-cam videos?*
This video feels different because it isn't a TH-cam video, it's a proper lesson from module two in The Shadow Work Library curriculum - one of the 110+ lessons, guided exercises and video bibliography reviews in my post-graduate style online course.
If you've been watching me for a while, then you'll know that I love teaching Jungian psychology on TH-cam, but my true passion is exploring nuanced and advanced psychological territories within properly structured educational boundaries. I enjoy teaching at different levels, but I ultimately want to see you studying and evolving, not doom scrolling for yet another forgettable edu-tainment binge session.
If you're tired of doom scrolling down the self development slope, then consider joining me inside The Shadow Work Library for some real offline work. You'll find this Jungian psychology lesson embedded between several meticulous archetypal exercises which will help you to systematically identify and integrate both your masculine and feminine archetypes in both their shadow and light aspects at each of your major lines and levels of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual development.
If you read the previous sentence and felt a tickle of excitement rather than boredom or apathetic shutdown, then click the link below to dramatically accelerate your self integration progress over the next six months.
This is an advanced course, and you won't regret putting £750 into your inner world rather than yet another weekend trip or material purchase in the outer world.

Fantastic. This sums up my own experience of archetypal experience. As an artist, I often find myself swimming in these waters, and can confirm that the archetypes are autonomous and completely unknowable through mental concepts. They speak through the body and through right brain processes 😊

I’ve made a lot of breakthroughs working with archetypes, but I’ve done so in the way that you’re describing. Not being so rigid and letting my healing flow through many ideas, archetypes & their
    Sub archetypes .
You did a great job breaking this down. Your hesitation gives so much context.

This is brilliant 'food for thought' for some of much better words. Sitting here with Sage, Huntress, Lover, Queen (following a recommendation from one of your other videos) and another book on Archetypes in a broader capacity - I find this video beautifully timed, and has caused a moment of pause and contemplation on messages from this video, before delving any further into these books.

To be honest I don't believe anyone has ever fully wrapped their head around the concept/theory of archetypes. I went through full Self Realization process over a period of 25 or more years. The only archetypes I have experienced are the shadow (the repressed underside), the anima (the feeling center) the wise man/magician, and the Self or Soul...the totality of the human Being including the spiritual aspects. I interpret the archetypes based upon my experience as the patterns and aspects that have imprinted upon the evolving Soul throughout many lifetimes. The Causal body seems to be the origin of archetypal content. I prefer to call them "aspects" or "patterns".

I conceptualize archetypes as "malleable clusters of experience that exist along the spectrum of consciousness".
The spectrum of consciousness includes the personal and collective unconscious.
Malleable refers to archetypes being semi-structured concepts: they are adaptable, flexible but not entirely fluid, not without boundaries.
Clusters of experience refer to the many characteristics (images, sensations, energies, feelings, thoughts, impulses, memories, goals...) of archetypes. The majority of the cluster is mostly unconscious. A share of it always remains in the collective unconscious, even if a specific archetype is strongly present in one's psyche. The repartition, influence and intensity of archetypes varies from one individual to the next, and evolve constantly.
We can relate to, witness, or be "possessed by, identified with" parts of an archetype.
I emphasize the malleable part of my definition because, we can play with boundaries a lot. For example: the inner child can be subdivised and related to as the inner teen, todler, infant, etc... Or the angry hurt child and the creative innocent child...
But it is undeniable that some boundaries / related patterns exist in the collective psyche, as has been proven over time and as presented nicely by books such as King, Warrior, Magician, Lover.
I conceptualize Jung's Self as the supreme archetype of alignment, of wholeness, of balance. The Soul, the personal divine. Which again has both a personal unconscious and collective unconscious aspect.
I'll stop here. I enjoyed better defining my current perspective on this very confusing concept of archetypes. Thank you Jordan for your work and the many valuable sources which have helped to construct the majority of my reflection. I still have some key books to read on the topic. And look forward to better define the concept of archetypes for myself.
PS: In my opinion, there is too much magical / mythical terminology and clouding around the concept of archetypes, and I see it as detrimental to a broader psychological acceptation and more practical applications.

A couple of things that seem to make sense to me so far is that complexes point to an archetype itself, but the way there should always be via the direct personal experience first and foremost (as you said). So it would perhaps more sense to focus on and start with complexes. The archetype itself is like the thing that contains the blueprint or structure which is sourced from the patterns and behaviours of the collective unconscious.
Kinda confusing concept to unpack, I found, still going at it and probably will be for a while-thanks Jordan 🙏

    • @jordanthornton
      @jordanthornton  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree that focusing on personal complexes (especially father, mother, grandiosity and victim) are very wise first steps which naturally bridge into archetypal work. The boundaries do nonetheless blur at the edges 🌲
