I work at a Ford dealership in Minnesota. There's been a blue Ford GT just sitting outside in the service lot for months. Ig they are waiting on a part to be custom made or something. It's been sitting outside all of winter... In Minnesota... It's been a very tame winter though so it's better than last year but the damn thing is still covered in salt and the brakes are rusty. I recently found out though that the owner has 2 Ford GT's one in red with the 2 white stripes that he stored and keeps all nice and pretty. and the blue one which is out in the lot that he races and takes on road trips. It has something like 120,000 miles on it which is bonkers for a rare super car like that
@@Tornado2409Agreed Regarding of how rare the car is, it should be driven from time to time, not rotting in a garage masquerading as a museum before it's owner dies or tries to sell it to some other dude
So let me get this straight. A Ford dealer parks a Ford GT outside in the winter? What kind of unprofessional shop is that? Hopefully the owner knows this. I’m gonna find that owner. Curious what he says.
Tiger Woods won one of these in a Ford-sponsored golf tournament in the early 00s (along with the usual giant check). But Tiger couldn't drive it, as he had an endorsement deal with Buick. So he gave it to his caddy. Best. Boss. Ever.
Wanted to learn more and found out he also gave him a Shelby gt500 a few years earlier. Sheesh. I just wanted to see if he owned it long enough until the GT started going up in value but I'm sure he's fine with it if he didn't. The market on these things was really weird for the first few years when they were hitting the aftermarket. I remember seeing one in the 60k range with an extra set of tires back then. For comparison, just a regular gt500 was around 60k that year

What was interesting was that a cast iron, pushrod V8 which was available as an option in full-size Ford cars didn't require much modification to beat the pants off exotic V12 OHC 250P. As has long be said, "There is no replacement for displacement."
Well there is one replacement now. Their called EV's . I learned this 20 years ago when I had some RC cars I figured the gas ones were better just cause they were gas. @sauluribe7082 - The GT40 was built with "ideas" gleaned from the Lola, but in no way was it a British Lola design Roy Lunn who Ford put in charge of designing the car with his staff was responsible for the almost final design of the car. Roy Lunn was British born and worked for Ford Advanced Vehicles in Slough, England. He later moved to and became an American citizen. @@bigblockjalopy that's where I'd disagree mate. American cars were ideal for America, Italian cars were ideal for Italy, and Europe in general. While fiat 500 doesn't seem convincing in the US, any American car from that era in Italy would get caught in an alley with no where to go. You'd be stuck to walking. Also America made like 2 cars that beat italian cars when it comes to top speed and track performance. The Italians were literally on top of their game. Especially Alfa Romeo and Maserati. They used to be on top for such a long time. I'd also say comparing such a big country as the US with such a small county as Italy isn't quite fair of you. But in the context of being in america, american cars make sense. As in being in italy, italian (European) cars make sense (which is why ford attempted to target their markets with such huge hits as the Focus and the other little ford rally cars I'm really too tired to recall the names). Well, that's until the 2000s. Nowadays normal Italian cars don't make sense even in italy. It's only the exotic cars that have flair and characters that you could consider successful. What I'm trying to say here, you need to understand why things are made the way you are. And as important as the US is both in history and economy, the world doesn't really revolve around it. I'm not denying its importance and sheer control, I'm saying that the manufacturers will mostly base their cars on what the customers need. And that's what makes a car great in its own right. Americans could never need an Italian cars best traits. But they could want one because it has character. American cars make sense on big american roads. They have everything you need and do it better than any other car that was designed to be cheap on the consumer, practical, and small to fit in narrow roads.
@@yaseenbshina3140you missed the word "regular". Back in the late 50s those "bad " American bread and butter cars already hit 200mph on the salt lake. Try that with a 1960 Fiat, or anything regular till today. I'm driving an American car since 1988 over here in Germany, I couldnt be happier. At 370k troublefree miles it still runs like new. Still goes 150+ mph easily. The car is from 1959 and for handling, I have a 2015 Mercedes CLS for comparison. The old one is faster. It's slightly modded, mostly brakes, nothing radical. I'm roadracing that car since 89/90 and hardly lost any races. I'm not talking about Supercar terrain. Anyway, to me, reliability is the most important thing and in that respekt, you can't beat Detroit Iron. American cars are just the best.
And as I recall, it was a nightmare. Doors that wouldn’t unlock alarms going off at all times during the night and it was too wide for UK roads so you got rid of it and quickly too.

Best. Boss. Ever.
That is awesome!
Didn’t that caddy pretty much betray him when he was caught driving with percocet in his body?
Wanted to learn more and found out he also gave him a Shelby gt500 a few years earlier. Sheesh.
I just wanted to see if he owned it long enough until the GT started going up in value but I'm sure he's fine with it if he didn't. The market on these things was really weird for the first few years when they were hitting the aftermarket. I remember seeing one in the 60k range with an extra set of tires back then. For comparison, just a regular gt500 was around 60k that year
He probably did the car a favor by giving it away, based on Tiger's less than exemplary driving record!! LOL
His caddy also raced Saloon cars in New Zealand on dirt oval tracks. Basically a slightly toned down version of Late Model racing in the US

The GT40's originally entering the LeMans circuits was really a British Lola design. The engine was an American Ford V8.
And it was never officially called the GT 40. The press named it that when a journalist asked Ken miles the height of the car.
The final touches for the car were done when production was moved to Dearborn, Michigan and the Kar Kraft Co., Fords performance partner then, completed the car with the engine work being done by Holman Moody. So please don't say it was a "British Lola design.

Almost every regular American car beat about any regular italian car since the invention of the automobile
