  • Join our project to make the world a better place by planting avocado trees. I take you step by step through the process of growing a tree from seed all the way to fruit. We start with you eating an avocado and saving the seed and we'll end when you eat your first fruit from the tree.
    If you live somewhere that requires indoor growing join us and grow yourself a beautiful house plant.
    If you prefer to skip the process and buy a tree you can get one here: www.guacfarm.com
    For this episode you need:
    1 gallon pot with drainage
    a bag of potting soil
    a bag of 6-6-6 mix fertilizer
    a quart of water
    an avocado
    I can't wait to grow a tree with you!

    This is one of the best videos I've watched in my life! You helped so many people to reduce their anxiety and become better people, like me. You've just reminded me that there's still good people in this world. The world needs more people like you. Watching your videos is a good way to escape the negativity. God bless you, your family, your friends and your workers!

    16:48-17:26 Those words really sunk in me. Almost felt a knot in my throat. Imagine you grew together with your seedling 🌱and set a goal for yourself, by the time the avocado tree starts bearing fruit you can plant it, in the backyard of your first home. You’re not only giving your tree it’s forever laying place, but you’re also giving yourself a forever home 🥺🙏🏻🏡🌱 Wow your videos are more than just educational, they’re inspirational. I just discovered you and already I’m on my third video, I should be asleep, but your videos are giving me life. I can’t believe you have made me view and love earth, to an extent I never would of thought of in such a short period of time.

    I binge watched your channel a year ago. A few days ago I bought 2 Gem avocados, mainly for the seeds as I can't find the trees for sale near me. I cut into the fruit but both were inedible. Today I had to rewatch your video to make sure I didn't miss anything. I'm almost 60; I hope both seeds will sprout and I can give one away. I know they won't be Gem trees, but if they provide fruit for people and wildlife in years to come, it's all great. Thanks for your wonderful channel.

    Love it...I’m not the only crazy person that talks about my plants like this ;) I have a small, organic (4 year) food forest, and absolutely love being in my yard with my plants! I have been in Florida all my 67 years and have eaten fruit straight off of tree since I was a kid. Have always love avacodos. These days I have several coming up all over my yard because when I bury my kitchen scraps, they come up everywhere! I don’t wear gloves and I usually garden barefooted, because I love to feel and smell the earth!

    My grandson and I have enjoyed your video very much. Being Italian and an avid Gardener myself ( both vegetable and flower ) I understand perfectly what you are trying to say. When you plant a fruit tree or a walnut tree or an avocado tree, you are planting for the future generations who hopefully will appreciate and acknowledge the foresight of the planter. The pure pleasure that I get spending time in my garden is something that I’ve tried to teach and pass on to my children and grandchildren. Nothing feels better than getting your hands in that dirt. Although we live in Surrey, British Columbia, and I’m not sure how successful we’ll be growing an avocado tree, I’m going to try very hard. Thank you, it’s wonderful to hear how reconnecting with the earth and nature will help heal a lot of stress-related illnesses of today’s world....... much cheaper than seeing a therapist too!! Keep up the good work!

    Bought a Hass Avocado at the store and did the water grow way. Very slow patient progress. Here's where I need help. Around November the roots were getting long so I decided to put it into soil. Bought a big pot and potting soil and planted it. Within a couple of weeks noticed aphids, literally hundreds of them in the soil, it was like the soil was alive and moving. Used soapy water and it worked for a while and then, they were back. Ended up putting it back into water, but I can tell it wants to grow bigger cause it's having growth spurts. roots and stem. Within a week it grew leaves that were 3" long. The pot I have it 15" diameter and 18" tall. I want to put it back into soil. How do I deal with the pest problem. Love your videos and your philosophy.

    I do the avacado seed in water with two toothpicks and have found pure tank water works and the organisms produced in the water help with germination. I have to top the water up as it evaporates of course. Once the root starts I place it into a one third mix of sand to the potting/manure/charcoal/pumice mix with a deep pot. Then I can tip water on it all day/night long.
    Cheers

    Since avocados generally do not grow true to seed, I can't wait to see what you end up getting when your tree fruits. You are awesome for promoting growing avocados from seed, because that is why you have all your unique varieties of avocados and every tree grown from seed has the potential to be a new variety of avocado that's different somehow. You might get something really good tasting. Another TH-camr claimed that he had trees and trees of weird or bad tasting avocados on his from seed trees and told people not to do it. I can't see your website and it's probably the fault of whoever hosts your site. It happens when I try to see websites for like 20+ restaurants in a nearby city because they all hired the same person to make their websites, tell them people with older apple devices are getting a "browser not supported error." Do you send Avocados to California? Some companies won't send me fruit here.

      Adrienne, I might also be the guy you're referring to who said seedlings grow weird avocados. All I did was explain what "true to seed" means but as you know people like to hear whatever message they want to complain about. 🤣

    Could you tell me what I can do with my avocado when its leaves parts get brown at some places. When I moved it to the pot its leaves started to get brown. And what kind of natural fertilizer might be good for it?

    • @SleepyLizard
      @SleepyLizard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tamari, Repotting a tree is a stressful event and it's not uncommon for some leaves to die and drop. I'm not sure what you mean by natural fertilizer. We use 6-6-6 blend which are the nutrients most suited for avocado trees. It's like taking a vitamin instead of eating an orange.
      You should start to see new leaf growth soon...and if you don't see anything happening above the ground don't worry, don't fuss over the tree, a lot of the growth happens below ground in the root system.
      Good luck with your tree!

    Can pecan seeds grow? Also wat time of the year would be best to plant an avocado tree in the ground from pot?

    • @SleepyLizard
      @SleepyLizard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jose, .I spent some time in Thomasville GA which I believe is the pecan capital of the world so I read a little bit about them. You can grow a tree from a pecan but they are not "true to seed" which means the resulting tree won't produce the same kind of pecan.
      As for best time to put in the ground: I try to do most of my planting in mid-June just before Florida rainy season kicks in....then you get 5 months of sweet sweet rain to give them babies a nice boost.

    • @ProdByXorak
      @ProdByXorak 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Id say best time to plant the tree in the grown is when the tree is big enough say anywhere from 1-2 feet or beyond that and plant it during the warm months during the growing season so that it has time to start to establish its root system before the colder months where growth is slower

      @SleepyLizard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isabel, stay close to the channel, keep trying, and you'll get one to grow. I'm certain of it. Grow one along with us in this series!
      As for when to put it into the ground. In Tampa you can plant year round but the best time would be right as rainy season is starting so Mid-June or so. Have you ever noticed the way grass grows during rainy season? Same thing with trees. Keep it in the pot now during dry season...easier to water that way, then second week of June or so get that baby in the ground and mother nature will take it from there.
