  • Not all stands are made equal.
In this episode of PhotoKitchen, we compare the Avenger to Matthews C-stands, to see which brings the most features and value to the table.

I've always wanted to create a frankin-stand, cobbling various components from multiple C-Stand manufacturers to create The Infinity Gauntlet of C-Stands. Thanks to your video, I have gained the knowledge necessary to overcome any obstacle that stands in my way!

And with a snap of your fingers, you would have the ultimate C-Stand. Thank you for watching.

I just discovered you an hour or two ago - This is the 2nd video I've watched of yours and I've got to say your presentation is excellent - Short, fast and to the point - I'm in agreement with your comments in this video - Bought my first c-stands maybe 15 to 20 years ago and I purchased Avenger's as I knew nothing of the Matthews name - The Avengers are excellent stands no doubt but having never purchased a Matthews stand I was not aware of the minor differences; minor differences that do provide worthwhile value - The cam out scenario with Avengers is real although I don't really have an issue as I guess my lighting equipment, Paul C Buff, is lighter - You do need to pay greater attention with a soft box in the mix for sure - I've never had an issue arise as I am very much safety aware - I think in the future I may stick with the Avenger stands but run them with Matthews arms - That may make no sense but I've been happy with how the Avengers have held up over time - The ports do become a minor issue on the Avengers as I do use scrims attached to metal frames and they present a bit of difficulty when you insert the frame into the appropriate port - Not a show stopper by any means just an ease of use deal - Thank you for your excellent presentation.

Thank you for watching. I agree about the quality of Avenger stands, and if you are not going to boom a light, then I think the stands are pretty much equal, but since I boom from time to time, especially when the gear pack list doesn't allow for a larger boom setup, then the Matthews is the way to go.

I do boom lights - Are you saying the Matthews stand is better or is it just the arm that's better - My thoughts were just to use Matthews arms on my Avengers - I though I recall you saying the Avengers may be a bit stronger due to possible OD diameter on the tubing.

You recalled right @@BillyWalkerMedia , but I don't have evidence that the Avenger is better in strength. Does it fee "beefier" sure, but I have zero data to support that.

also u need to note, the silver stands are made of steel dipped in chrome, very solid, the black models on both brands are just paint and chips and the riser are aluminum not steel

Thanks for watching, but the risers on all of my c-stand are steel. I went out and verified with a magnet. Steel for both Matthews and Avenger. I did do another video covering the overall c-stand families and finishes.

U know what u re right. Old thoughts from my time buhing they were alu for black and steel for chrome. The newer versjons are chrome black not powdered alu. Great buy i wanted mine black but i dnt want them aluminjm or cbipped. Lu ky you i d say. @@PhotoKitchen425

u re a bit wrong, there is no stability in booming a modifier on a c stand,,,u use at least a cs1030 or 5029 roller with a boom .

I agree about a roller, but you see people booming lights with c-stands all the time, hence why I point it out.
      Thank you for watching.

avenger easier to fix the joints if it breaks,,,useless bcz extremely expensive. mathews doesnt break but if hit and bent u cant change the leg joint it s one piece...the rubber knobs are better on avenger but if u dnt want rubber then mathews knobs are better and way faster to turn, the metal ring is worse long term but better in gripping the brake disk is easier to change and lasts long time but it slips more than mathews. if u are in EU buy avenger if u are north america buy mathews thats really what it is about
