  • Father time shows no mercy! We will all AGE. But there are different factors that come into play as to how we age. Some factors we have control over and other factors we do not.
    Uncontrollable factors:
    1. Genetics- we don't get to choose our family. some families age gracefully, and others age more quickly.
    2. Underlying health conditions (we do have some control over some of this, particularly with diet and exercise)- conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, lung disease, autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis can impact your overall health status which can age you faster
    Controllable factors:
    1. Sun exposure- as much as I love the warm sunny weather, the sun causes UV damage to our skin which can age us faster...as well as cause other problems like skin cancers
    2. Smoking- we have all seen folks with those strong smoker lines. Smoking affects the entire body. It causes blood flow around the body to decrease in efficiency. Outside of the obvious lung cancer and cardiovascular risks, smoking does age you a lot faster!
    3. Diet and exercise- we are what we eat! If you can eat healthier and stay active your body will show it. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy a hearty cheeseburger.... but as with anything else moderation is key.
Optimizing your health and environment is the best way to naturally combat aging. But in the end, we will all still age so if surgery is something you are interested in to help slow down and/or reverse some of the effects of aging then find a plastic surgeon to discuss your options!
