My nutritionist has me eating sardines 3 times a week. Has been an excellent source of protein for me. Seeing my phenomenal nutritionist has enabled me to lose 60 lbs in 2 years. Feeling terrific.
I love the new graphic elements added to your videos lately and the chapters. Thank you for the visual list of the best rated proteins and the whys, so much good info. Thank you Autumn 👍❤️🇨🇦
You gotta to be the best one on TH-cam Autumn when it comes to dietary Nutrition you explain it so crystal clear and show us on the chart. Incredible. Keep up the good work.
Love this autumn! Is there by chance a printable chart available? I’d love to see something similar for the glycemic load of different carb sources or like the best low carb sources for fiber or fiber content to carb content ratio. 🙏🏼🤩
This was super helpful, thank you! I am trying to eat around 100g per day and it's hard, but this gave me some ideas and made me not feel badly for eating a decent amount of red meat and shrimp. Not really hungry for lunch today but getting up now to have some turkey, and cheese stick, and some coleslaw. Not the highest/best but something I can assemble and eat in about 5 min! I'm surprised you didn't rate cheese - so many people tell me it's good for protein but I treat it as a delicious fat instead.
This is great info! Thank you. I like chick peas more for the fiber than the protein content and always shake my head when I hear people say it’s a "great" source of protein.
Great (convenient )source of protein. This is because they make chickpea pasta so compared to wheat it is a “great” source. Lentils also fall into same category of convenient protein because they make red lentil pasta
Great video. I love the visual. This helps me remember what proteins to prioritize. I wonder where lentils would fall on your chart. I always hear about them being a great affordable form of protean.
Where would you put the myriad of other cheeses? With the cottage cheese? Or higher? Would you place harder cheeses above the softer cheeses, given their lower lactose content? (Parmesan > Aged Cheddar > Mozzarella/curds/cottage cheese , for example???🤔)
Dear Autumn, I am not a nutritionist as you. When it comes down to white meat cuts, I've always felt better when consuming turkey rather than chicken, I don't believe turkey should be ranked lower than chicken, therefore. We don't have bison meat in Greece in supermarkets; you could find in some butcher shops, but it's too expensive. Salmon and eggs, I am addicted to both, I would rank eggs though excellent. I can't say much when it comes to plant-based protein sources, having read much about soy I am not a fan of any of its products. When it comes to beans and legumes, I've read that consuming spinach alongside chickpeas assists in the absorption of nutrients. Quinoa is a reliable source of carbohydrates; it's like peanut butter as you mention in videos; useful source of fat, not protein. Thanks for the video, much love
I'm with you on turkey! I don't really care for chicken that much. It doesn't taste very good to me, and I don't feel great when I eat it. But I LOVE turkey! It's so delicious, and I feel so good and satisfied with it as part of a meal. I like salmon and eggs alot, too! I also really like sardines and anchovies, although I've only ever had the canned variety. I'd love to try fresh sardines and anchovies! Do you get those types of fish fresh in Greece?
@@christinelamb1167 We do get fresh sardines and anchovies, both are cheaper than salmon, way cheaper. I don't mind canned ones either but when buying canned ones opt for the ones in olive oil and not sunflower oil. Turkey is more flavorsome than chicken and I've always felt more satiated than with chicken; it must be due to its higher content in tryptophan than chicken.
I know kangaroo is very nutritious b/c I read about it in a study, but I have no idea where it would fall in rankings. Since it's so unique to Australia, I think it would only be included in Australian nutrition studies.
I'm 62 now but I had vertigo really severe about 15 years ago... Went to the doctor and they gave me some exercises to do while laying on the bed and I have kept that print out ever since in case this ever happened again in the future but it's exactly what you are describing here which is moving those crystals back to where they belong. I pray to God I never experienced that ever again is it was just the worst thing ever!! I do have a little bit of bone loss and had been taken calcium supplements with vitamin D3 for absorption purposes for quite some time but I'm also hearing negative things about calcium. So I'm going to look into D and magnesium and K2 Thank you Dr Berg
I’m not thinking about cholesterol or anything other than cost per gram of protein. Beef and Bison are so expensive… I can make two meals of eggs ( 6 eggs per meal or about 40 gms of protein) for abut $5. No way I can do that with Beef or bison is there?
Ok question for all you Americans. What we (🦘🇦🇺)call a prawn 🍤🦐, you guys call a shrimp. And no, thanks Paul Hogan for starting that. We ‘never’ put a shrimp on the barbie!! 🤦♀️ Now if you get those teeny tiny seafood like in your Chinese fried rice or on a pizza, we call them shrimp. So what do you call them? 🤷♀️
Would have liked to have an idea of the actual amino acids that are present, and not just the overall protein amount.. but it's a good, simple ranking system that isn't biased towards any particular eating lifestyle.
So what is your opinion on the protein yogurts that say they have 20g of protein per container? I tried the skyr and loved the way it tasted but then seen it only had 11g of protein vs the 20g in my regular yogurt I eat.
Hi! I do have a few Cookbooks that you can purchase individually, like the THRIVING Cookbook, Autumn's Nerdy Kitchen Cookbook, and Autumn's Official Smoothie Cookbook here: autumnellenutrition.shop
Man, vegans are out of luck! Have you done a video where you explain the . . was it "DIAAS score?" What does that mean? That vegan proteins are fairly useless? That we need to count protein less for vegan sources? Thanks!
😢 Garden of Life and Orgain brands both have some very good meal replacement shakes. Just make sure to get the "meal replacement" ones and not just protein if that's all you're having.
Systematic reviews of the science have shown no benefit to high protein diets from animal sources vs plant based for weight loss. Not sure where she got her degree, but ignoring the role of saturated fat and fiber for the single goal of weight loss is pretty irresponsible. Eating meat for high protein means way too much saturated fat and no fiber. Losing weight at the expense of increased cancer and heart disease risk doesn’t seem wise. As a category, vegans are the leanest and it’s not even close. And, there are world class vegan bodybuilders that eat zero animal protein. Some are even life long vegans.
Wow I’m quite scared. so it’s somehow impossible to get high value and complete proteins with all essential amino acids on a plant-based diet. It’s like always sth is lacking…you tend to get all is needed and more protein but then there will be more carbs and fat then so much more calories…so confused about how to balance my diet and be plant based😭
Might want to look into blue zones and their diet. Which contains very little to no meat I believe. This is just a ranking in protein absorption, nothing else.
@@kristinj7173 Oh, thank you for pointing that out. As a non-native speaker, I sometimes make silly mistakes like this😭😂 so I really appreciate your help in improving my language skills. .
There is no need to combine foods in one meal to get amino acids. Simply eat a variety of plant foods and you’ll be fine. Focus on tempeh, lentils, beans. Of course fruit and veg. Surprisingly to a lot of people potatoes and sweet potatoes are great weight loss foods, very satiating for the calorie content. And in the case of sweet potatoes, very nutritious.
I was on keto diet and I didn’t know that all the meat like pork and beef had high content of salt I was on it for about 3 months I lost tons of weight but had a stroke on day the dr said I had to much salt in my life the weird thing is I never used salt I do t like it but he told me the meat is so processed filled with salt so I quit salt mostly chicken turkey and it’s been real good I don’t have diabetes anymore and losing tons of weight if you can help with foods with out all the salt would love it
Pea protein - high in salicylates. Many people don’t realize that it can cause behavioral issues. I didn’t read one of the Kodiak labels once because I had read some of their other products that only had whey protein. Gave it to my kid and when he started bouncing off the walls and expressing a lot of anger for no reason - I went back and looked - sure enough- it had pea protein. Obviously doesn’t bug everyone but just something to be aware of. We look out for things like red dye or msg for kids but how many of these chemicals and processed compounds affect us as adults too and we have no idea?
It is my understanding that children cannot metabolize protein powders and may harm their kidneys. For this reason they should not have them and get their protein from food sources. Possibly Autumn can comment?
Would appreciate some references. Also, what about lentils? I do feel like you are biased toward animal proteins so I think it would be helpful to split out the plant-based proteins into a totally separate video. I have concerns about the saturated fat and cholesterol risk factors with all of the red meat and dairy, since it is counter to so many other health recommendations. Please address these concerns for long-term health, and not just weight loss.
Lots of studies referenced in my other videos on protein if you want to check those out. I also address the health related concerns in various videos too. This one was just quite lengthy as is, so I couldn't dive into that information as well (considering I've already covered this extensively in the past). Fun fact, I actually was vegetarian for the majority of my childhood/early adulthood. But I started eating more animal-based proteins because they are higher DIAAS and much more nutrient dense. But I do make sure to share the best possible options for my plant-based friends as well, hence why I have a section dedicated to plant-based sources in this video. You can check out one example of the nutrient density concern here: th-cam.com/video/upj59vAsg3Q/w-d-xo.html
Yes! I have a slice of Ezekiel sesame sprouted grain bread toasted with poached eggs and a slice on Canadian bacon every morning. It's my go to breakfast. I am satiated for hours.

How do you eat them I heard they are good!

Great idea!
YES! I would love a Glycemic Load printable!! Went on the website and it wasnt printable.
This earned a sub. Knowledgeable, straightforward, not faddish at all. Perusing the rest of the channel now.
On shrimp- which I love. Don’t get farm raised though. That nutritional profile is so different than good wild caught gulf or pacific shrimp!
shrimp is delicious.
Hi Jacob! 👋- Thanks for the shrimp tip! I was just heading to the store to buy some for tonight’s dinner! 😅 ❤❤❤
like double the price, which suuuuucks
Same with farm raised salmon and tuna. Lots of questionable extras in it, as well as a higher level of Mercury.

So eat beef and eggs.
Lean meat is best
And shoot your cholesterol up. Saturated fats are the enemy.

Well said, I love my beef, butter, bacon and eggs.
This is a great resource! Thank you! ❤
Where would you rank Bone Broth Protein?
This was a great video Autumn! I do really well with visuals Thanks!
Thanks Autumn! I love all your content! ❤🎉 Will there be a Fall 6 week guide? I think I’ll be ready to leave my Summer sweets cravings behind 😅😬

I love that I found your channel! I have learned so much already! Thanks! ♥️

This is great information just suprised that Lentils were not on the list.
